I am under the impression that this could be a wing fuel tank filler access...well maybe :?
I know Lysanders, Tomahawks, Mustangs, Spitfires, and Typhoons operated from there. The part is heavily pitted and no marks or stamps are visible anywhere other than a circle with the letters EDA and a number 5 .

i could easily be wrong here but i didnt think any of the Aircraft you mention had fuel tanks in the wings
what is the diameter of the hole?
BTW, didnt Mossys operate from Sawbridgeworth as well?

They did Roy, albeit very briefly.
As they sank into the runway meshing causing ruts, 4 Squadron, who operated mossies in B flight, shifted them to Hunsdon.
