I just need to have a topic about it here.
You may have heard the story before, but it´s too exciting to not have it here.
So since 1949 (almost sixty years!), so 100 years after Poe´s Death and exactly 140 years after his Birth, on every single of Eddy´s Birthdays an anynomous visitor has come to Poe´s grave and put a bottle of Cognac and three blood-red roses on the stone...
I do not want to speculate wildly, but what person does that? He or she has to be quite old, and he/she must have started it in my age. I mean, sixty years - you could say that person is fanatic, or you just say, it is someone who loves Poe so incredibly much that he/she does that.
I myself already thought going to Baltimore on his birthday, but now I know I will meet someone there! He/She is called "The Poe Toaster"; a quite silly name when you ask me.
In my eyes, that person deserves some honour.
He/she does not want puplic attention, otherwise he/she would not stay anynomous over sixty years.
He/She does it only for Poe.
Some people believe there are several persons who do that; like an organized bunch of Poe-fans who choose one among them each year to go to the grave, but I actually don´t think so.
When you want to read the whole story and some speculations of eye-widnesses, click here:

What do you think of the whole thing?

I think it's some sort of family tradition that's been passed down from descendant to descendant since the first Toaster incident....the first Toaster must've passed away which might explain sightings of a much younger Toaster....yeah, I got that from the Wikipedia article, heh.
Although I think that's likely, I don't remember reading about Poe ever having a child, so maybe it really is just a fanatic..

I like this. It is always good to have someone thinking about you. Believe me, if I lived where he`s buried, I would have gone over yearly, too. Or maybe I would have gone more often
