i am posting this to show how part numbers can be hidden or hard to find.
this piece is only 51mm long. the number is partialy covered by the top left hand rivet.
good colour after 60+years in the ground!
visible numbers are> 4 (rivet)881

Roy,
this must be a part of a Boeing, possible B-17
I have found a similar part of a B-17
The head rivets must be a diameter of 10mm.
My part (it looks like similar to your found) have a width of 40mm

yes you are right. mine is from a B17G of the 390th BG
i think its part of the pilot/copilot seat but not positive

on my part is no number to find. The condition is too bad :?
I mean on your part is a round stamp under the colour to see. Look at the red square !

Are not these parts extremely similar to items attached to the B-17 main spar ?

I don´t think so. The dimension from the little green part here is not the same as on the main spare. It looks similar on the first look, but this part here have one strip in the middle.
I don´t know the dimension of the main spar, but I´m sure this part is very larger...
But you have good eyes 8)

no problem its always good to get opinions.
the part i posted is made in the shape you see.
i can see what you mean about the spar but they look square.
i really am not sure about my "seat" idea so any more ideas are ok with me
