    Hero: Naginata Samurai
Naginata Samurais where heavilly armoured warriors usually using spears called naginata.
(here you can find out some more about this weapon- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naginata)

Here are two screens- one is the suggested model, the other- naginata model from a page with warcraft models. This is not a naginata. Naginata ends with something similiar to sabre- it is rather a slashing weapon on a stick. Check this link for a real naginata  (this site has a small gallery) http://www.naginata.nl/

    http://hiveworkshop.com/resources_new/models/1958/
    http://www.wc3sear.ch/index.php?p=Models&ID=3955&sid=

Now a description what my idea really is. I want this hero to be a tank-type hero(then Yari Samurai would have a rival :) ). He should be a bit slower than Yari Samurai. As I said, "naginata's" were heavilly armoured- that's why his base armour should be bigger than other heroes's and some of his skill would refer to defending.

    Now the stats:
    definitely a strenght hero
    low agility
    average intelligence

    1st skill:
    Naginata
Naginata is a long, pole, slashing weapon dealing massive damage to all nearby enemies. Each level increases the % of damage delievered to nearby enemies.(passive skill, like cleaving attack- it can also have some other features, if nooK has sth against just copying pit lord's skill- it can, for example, increase damage but lower the attack speed every level)
    lvl 1- 15%
    lvl 2- 23%
    lvl 3- 30%
    lvl 4- 37%
    lvl 5- 45%

    2nd skill:
Defensive stance/some other name similiar in meaning :)
It would work similiar to footman skill. Reduces piercing damage and gives a chance to reflect a missle attack. Slows the hero movement speed. The difference would be that it also drains some mana per second- 5-10, sth like that(+ activation cost pf course). This model has an alternate walking animation which probably could be used for this skill. Someone will probably complain that this is just a bit edited copy of a preset skill. Does it really matter? Can't we use this skill if it suits well the hero I would like You to make? Not all skills have to use JASS and have ten pages of triggers :P

    3rd skill:
No ideas right now(it was fortified armour before, but we agreed that it was a bad idea), this will be some offensive spell

    lvl 1- ?
    lvl 2- ?
    lvl 3- ?
    lvl 4- ?
    lvl 5- ?

    4th skill(ultimate):
Swift Assault(if you have any better ideas for the name, tell me)
Naginata Samurai focuses all his strenght and power to relase it in a quick, destructive attack- he jumps(low jump and short range- he wears a heavy armour P:)) to the target, slashes all enemies in front of him(including or not the target) and then, stabs the target through. The slash can also push back the enemies a bit (except the target) and cause bleeding.
    lvl 1- 125 slash damage, 150- stab
    lvl 2- 150 slash damage, 200- stab
    lvl 3- 275 slash damage, 230- stab
    lvl 4- 200 slash damage, 260- stab
    lvl 5- 215 slash damage, 300- stab
That's how the stats could look if the slash would NOT affect the target.
Here are 2 fast drawings showing how this skill should work:

The stab should go through the target- it would look great :)

I hope You won't complain that this is another spearmen hero- half of the heroes use swords, so I see no problem in 2 spearmen in this map :) (besides, naginata isn't really a spear).

As you have themed this hero around naginata, I'd like that his skills would be actually related to using the weapon and it's advantages. In his current form he seems like a nasty tank with nasty ultimate. My suggestion is that keep the defensive theme but take another look on the skills.

    Skill 1. No comment.

    Skill 2. No comment.

Skill 3. No way. +12 armor is ALOT. Buy him Samurai armor and he's pretty much safe from both spells and melee damage with +20 armor, blocking 50 damage, 75% dmg from spells just by hero armor, and -33% from Samurai Armor. Just NO.

Skill 4. Why in heavens would you need to silence them inside the ring of rocks? No. Escape skills are called escape skills because they allow you to escape with them.

Serious rework needed. Sorry to shoot it down like this but yeah Omerta has a point. Use it.

dont like skill 1 and 3
skill1 sounds boring and easy to use, and a slow nuke
skill3 sounds alot like skill 2 but more unbalanced :)
the ulti seems the only fun thing on this hero, it dose not need silence.
this hero definatly needs a rework.
    p.s. skill 2 sounds kinda boring :P

    Re: Hero: Naginata Samurai

    Andriejj - 22.03.2007, 15:57

I think you are right- two defensive skills are too much.

As I said, naginata is a slashing weapon, I have an idea for a new passive- somekind of deadly slash- a percentage chance(15-20%?) to
1)Deal damage in an arc(but this would be too similiar to Yari's passive)
2)Make the traget bleed- target would be deeply hurt and will bleed for few seconds losing hp and maybe some movement speed.
3)Combination of point 1 and 2- makes all units in an arc bleed but not so much and long as in skill 2.

You said skill 2 sounds boring. He has to have a defensive skill connected with armour or decreasing damage. But if it's bad, we can, for example, use this spell(with some changes):
    http://www.wc3sear.ch/index.php?p=Spells&ID=1473&sid=

The silence for this ultimate would make it too good, I agree, but it could have slow the enemy down a bit.

About the offensive skill- it's not to original, I'll think about something better.

Omerta said he seems to be a "nasty tank"- he is supposed to be a tank :P

Let's keep the second skill, Defensive stance. It suits his defensive theme. The other skills from original suggestion may be thrown into trashpaper bin if you ask me.
According to the Wikipedia article, naginata is long and heavy weapon. This means strong, sweeping strikes in good long radius. The logical choise now would be giving him Cleave. It will guarantee him a cutting-edge versus spawns and a good laning potential.

Durr. Someone else continue from here, I'm lacking ideas.

    Re: Hero: Naginata Samurai

    Andriejj - 22.03.2007, 18:09

So you suggest that his passive should give him a cleaving attack? Good idea. So maybe this deadly slash would be an active, offensive spell- damage in an arc(180 degrees or less?), bleeding for some period of time and maybe some other buff.

    Is the ultimate ok?

    Re: Hero: Naginata Samurai

    wizard.dark - 22.03.2007, 19:26

I think the ultimate is cool but doesnt suit the theme at all.Instead he should really have something to do with his weapon.Like maybe do a powerfull swing swiping the enemies backwards(moving them kinda like dragon soul).

    Re: Hero: Naginata Samurai

I checked a lot of spells from www.w3sear.ch but most of melee spells refer to agility heores(fast and furious :) )

This one could be used as a basic offense spell, although it would rather be suitable for some hammer-using hero:
    http://www.wc3sear.ch/index.php?p=Spells&ID=1069&sid=

This is one of rather agililty spells, but it could be used as his ultimate after being slowed down a bit and weakened.
The description would be sth like that- "Naginata Samurai gathers all his strenght and power to relase it in a burst of quick(that's why he gathers it :)) attacks upon multiple enemies". Cooldown would be very long. Watch the spell, it looks very impressive, you can use it in some other hero.
    http://www.wc3sear.ch/index.php?p=Spells&ID=312&sid=

Btw- check out spells from those packs- especially paskoviich's Water Pump.

    tegeus-Cromis - 23.03.2007, 02:22

Why don't you focus on concept and let nooK worry about the coding? Spell packs are nice and all, but I can't get very excited about a hero someone came up with by looking at things other people have already done and throwing them together.

    Re: Hero: Naginata Samurai

    Andriejj - 23.03.2007, 17:09

Here's my new idea for an ultimate ability:

It would be a target offensive spell. He would make a low jump to the target. Then, he would make a combination of two attacks: first he would slash all units in front of him, the second strike would be a stab with his weapon affecting only the target. The jump would be low and short(short range, he wears a heavy armour :) ).

I quickly made a demonstrational picture, it looks terrible but it shows the idea quite well :)

The slash can also have a push effect on enemies(except for the target).

It would be great, if the stab animation would look like that(go through the enemy):

    What you think?

    1st skill:
    Seismic Slam
This skill would work similiar to thunder clap, but it would also have a small push effect on all enemies sourrounding the samurai.
lvl 1- 65 damage, 2 secs of diziness
lvl 2- 65 damage, 3 secs of diziness
lvl 3- 90 damage, 4 secs of diziness
lvl 4- 115 damage, 5 secs of diziness
lvl 5- 160 damage, 6 secs of diziness
Damage is low, but diziness is quite long, so this skill is good, but not too good in my opinion and it can be used in 2 purposes(apart from killing creeps)- to slow enemies to escape or to chase them.

No comment works almost like thunder clap...

Maybe this skill should just simply give him just some bonus armor and slow hes movement speed, no mana loss or just a VERY SMALL mana loss, but still keep the activation cost...
AND do some cool defense stance in game... ^_^

    Quote:
    3rd skill:
    Fortified Armour
Passive skill. It would increase armour and give a percentage chance(10 to 20% percent, for me, the best would be 10%, but choose yourself) to block certain amount of damage.
    lvl 1- 3 armour, 10 blocked damage
    lvl 2- 3 armour, 15 blocked damage
    lvl 3- 5 armour, 25 blocked damage
    lvl 4- 8 armour, 35 blocked damage
    lvl 5- 12 armour, 50 blocked damage

How about just simply giving him armors by
    lvl 1- 1 armor
    lvl 2- 2 armor
    lvl 3- 3 armor
    lvl 4- 4 armor
    lvl 5- 5 armor

And a really small damage block or a very small spell reduction ... ?

    Quote:
    4th skill(ultimate):
Rock Trap- this name isn't to good in my opinion, but I couldn't figure out anything better
Samurai smashes the ground and starts a metmorphique sequence- ring of rocks encircles him and foes in range.
And now dilemmas- there are few possibilities here. You can either make the rocks quite tough, so that destroying them takes some time.
Other solution- destroying a rock deals damage to the hero who destroys it(the rock explodes or have some other impact on the attacker).
Another way would look like that- the earth inside the circle constantly trembles and slows down attack and movement speed of enemies inside- in my opinion THIS IS THE BEST IDEA.
Some units have jump abilities so this spell should have a silence effect inside the ring- to make destroying the rocks the only way to get out.

Umm... just a suggestion how about if just giving him just some non-magical ultimate, like some cool attack, not any stone rings yet

    Re: Hero: Naginata Samurai
Attin, read the posts. For now, he surely will have this defensive stance. Why with a mana drain? Because without it, he would be too good against towers.

This skill similiar to thunder clap has already been rejected. No ideas for any other offensive skills now. If you have any, feel free to suggest them.

The ultimate idea is on my drawings, this stone trap doesn't suit this hero, I agree :)

The armour bonus ability would be replaced with a cleaving attack passive skill with a small % chance to cause bleeding. Why no armour passive? Because he already has one defensive skill.

Hehe. Don't be so touchy wizard, relax. I meaned no offense. I just needed some other picture to use it as an enemy on my drawing- your avatar was the first thing that I layed my eyes on.

Besides, your avatar suits it very well- it stands straight and it was easier to adapt him
