I don't know if I titled the subject line right - sometimes I have a hard time with words but this really makes me mad.
I just learned that NA actors/actresses don't receive the same pay as the white actors do. I also read somewhere - can't remember - but the NA's were treated differently.
This may be known to some of you but it sure wasn't to me.

yes, we´ve been talking about it a bit ... and to make sure not to tell you anything wrong, I asked Nathaniel about it and he said, it´s all true. He calls it "cultural differences and different social aspects". He also says that it´s always like that.
What can we do against it? Not that much - but mention it wherever you are and spread the word ... tell it and someone will hopefully listen!

I think it's terrible. Just when you think we are slowly starting to bridge the gap something like this happens...
Re: Less Pay/Unequal Treatment for Native Americans in Movies.
newnativspirit - 01.03.2007, 11:00
yeap - and it´s a shame, cause all these people are doing a great job and actually not any different to "white" actors! Just imagine that they all had to learn Lakota for ITW ... to me this is doing an excellent job !!! Now, can you imagine why so many NA people are so disappointed and hopeless?
Re: Less Pay/Unequal Treatment for Native Americans in Movies.
eddiefever - 01.03.2007, 17:27
it is not just the NAactors ,this also happends to Orientals and even African Americans ,it's now less than in the past but it still exist.
and Nathaniel was right about the cultural differences and different social aspects is the reason
but it AIN'T right !!!!
we can't do much but we can do something
spread the word like Anne said ,but maybe also make a petition for Non- "White" actors ?
and send it to the US goverment ,i still have the emails an fif i'm correct it is also on display on Anne's Website ,in Dog The Bounty Hunter
wel ya'll let me know if it is a good idea
cause every person should be treathed Equally , and no acceptions on actors or even kings and queens !!!!!
in the end we all Blead and Die !!!
sorry ,i got a bit carried away here :(
it is just Injustice !!!
i'll stop now :x

The US government doesn´t care about something like that, but I have a friend living in LA you might be able to help me with the address where to send it. I´ll talk to him and see what he has to say ... and if it will make sense at all. He knows the business and the politics ...

Eddiefever you didn't get too carried away and if Anne knows someone in LA that's even better. Yes everyone should be treated fairly but they are not.
It's terrible to say but the US government doesn't give a hoot about much of anything - unless it's war or ways to "line their pockets". Course it's been like that ever since they started colonizing the worlds. And this global warming is no one's fault but our own. We've just about destroyed the earth and the atmosphere.
I also think that the US and every country should help their own before going into someone else's back yard and helping them. There are just as many "needy" people in other countries than Africa and other 3rd world places. Shoot they are right in our own neighborhood and such.
I got a bulliten on the situation at Pine Ridge today in myspace and I knew it was bad - but was unware it has gotten much worse. Course here in Louisville, there is a killing just about every night and it's on the news the next day. All over drugs or acholo (sorry can't spell). They've been busting meth labs right and left.
The world, in my opinion has gone to "hell in a handbasket" sorry for the language but it's the truth. And with nothing really good on TV that has any sort of morals anymore - people wonder why there are so many divorces, crimes, kids going bad etc.
I could go on but then I'll just make myself that much more aggreviated...but I'm sure that any person with compasion and caring about the welfare of all - feels the way I do.
Re: Less Pay/Unequal Treatment for Native Americans in Movies.

Having kids on my own makes me aware of things like that and I try to teach my kids to make a change and to accept everybody the way he is and to treat people right. My parents tought me, but when it came to it, they had a different opinion ... lol ... just like I had that American boy-friend - uuuuuuuuuuuuuh - and he was WHITE! but when I invited a BLACK guy, who was one of my best friends at this time, to stay for the week-end, hell was open!!! You have to stand for what you are teaching! So I hope I´ll do a good job. At least I try to do something ! You know, so many people are just talking and never would take action! If we ignore all these things which we say it´s unfair, we are not any better to those you do the bad things ... well, it´s easy to say "stand up and fight", but there are so many things people don´t know about. So I decided to tell about the situation of Native Americans in our days, my brother is taking care of people on the Phillipines and so many others do it for some others ... if we close our eyes and don´t see, there won´t be a change - but it just makes sense to fight for something when you know it will help! You have to think about it - how can it work out the way you want it to be and things like that. That´s why I said, I´ll contact my friend in LA, cause he knows what is possible ... to address the government is the wrong way ... don´t you think the actors have tried to make a change ? We will have to find out what will be the best way of support and then go for it. Now, how does this sound to you?

i agree and your reply reminded me of a commercial we had here in Holland ,i remember the first time i saw it i stood up from my seat and clapped ,the entire family did !!
it was "aired" in Suriname .
a Surinamese was telling to send money ,help these ppl ,they are so sick,
they won't live without research and stuff ,you knwo those kind of commercials ,we get them every movie/series pause
wel so we were watching and thinking ,ooh who needs help this time ,ppl always need help ,it never stops
wel than all of a suddenly you saw places from Holland !!! ,the windmills ,Amsterdam and stuff
so the man had stopped ,the Surinamese commercial was finished so it said: .......?? number of ppl in our country die from Tuberculose everyday
,i was stunned !! ,stood up and clapped
we all did :D
cause it was what we think every single time a commercial for other countries in aired ,so many ppl die in your own country ,help them as wel ,before it's to late
besides i also think that in many countries you don't see any real change ,like the Tsunami
our small country ,who has the population of a small city of the US ,raised 40 MILLION dollars ( plus our country also has inflationproblems ,like many Euro-landen) and what happend to the money ,it didn't go to Taxes ,cause the People stood up for that !!! had a big fight with the Goverment of NL and WE won !!
but where is the money?
Us raised MIljard $
where si their money?
the ppl who were victomized by the Tsunami still live like they lived when the float distroyed their houses
there are some hospitals ,but are not really Sterril
and some houses ,if you can call ti that ,it's just a couple of Wooden Planks nailed together and it isn't even a Steady house !!!
do you all see what i mean?
But i do think we shoudl help ALL ppl when we can ,no exeptions can eb made ,but we can not forget ppl who live in our own country ,our nabours ,our friends ,our family :)

Wow, so being that this is true for native actors, then I am wondering about black actors. Being that I am from the States, and so I am familiar with discrimination, it wouldn't be a stretch if we got paid less.
Re: Less Pay/Unequal Treatment for Native Americans in Movies.
newnativspirit - 01.03.2007, 21:07
yeap, but it´s still more than the Natives get paid ... for some reason Native Americans are still be seen as savage people ... and they have even more culture than the "Whites".
Re: Less Pay/Unequal Treatment for Native Americans in Movies.
emerald - 01.03.2007, 21:12
Oh I agree, i'm just saying I'm wondering if we're paid less than white actors also. It's all crazy!
Re: Less Pay/Unequal Treatment for Native Americans in Movies.
evenstar - 02.03.2007, 02:11
It is crazy, but if you think about it, not surprising. If you look at it from a slightly different perspective, women still get paid substantially less than their male counterparts. If they're still discriminating on the basis of sex, then it isn't surprising that they're doing it on the basis of race as well.

Yep - everyone has brought out some good points. Don't get me wrong it's good to help everyone when we can - but we should not neglect our "own back yard". Take care of them then go somewhere else...because a lot of these people in the 3rd world countries will go right on living in shacks, going right back to they way they lived before.
Sure it breaks my heart to see children in need and it makes my blood boil to see "injustice" to certain people. I've always believed that "if God intended us all to look alike, he would have made us all the same" Also he commanded us to "love one another" but do you see that happening....no.....
The one movie that sticks out in my mind is Stephen King's "The Stand" and it's really true for todays time. We have to make a "STAND" because I for one am no "puppet on a string".

That is so true - and you know not much has changed since the beginning of time....well maybe only getting worse. One of our students who is a good friend and is from Honduras is all upset - she received a phone call from her father - saying her brother had been kidnapped - we don't know the details.
Bush is in town and will be coming out to U of L later on this afternoon.
Re: Less Pay/Unequal Treatment for Native Americans in Movies.

awww so sad to hear that. :(
And you're right. It's all getting worse, allthough it seems to get better (if you believe the official versions). But if you look behind that official stuff.... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!
Re: Less Pay/Unequal Treatment for Native Americans in Movies.
newnativspirit - 02.03.2007, 23:43
You can´t ask for tolerance and expect it to happen, you have to teach it first! It´s a generation problem ... I see my granny (she can´t understand why I support NA people /savage people) I see my parents (they accept and tolerate my interest in NA culture, but still can´t understand) I see myself (the generation that is willing to make a change) and I see my kids (they will make a change, cause I´ll teach and support them). That´s how it works. We are living in a time where everything is getting more global - just like chatting with you guys wasn´t possible a few years ago and my grandma would never even have thought of it ... so we shall take the chance to teach each other and the rest of the world! It doesn´t make sense to stay angry, because anger is creating hate ... and so it starts all over again plus anger can make you forget about what all this is about and so where do you end up? We need to speak kindly to those who don´t want to understand and explain it over and over again ... teaching !!! But don´t forget to respect those who won´t agree with you ... because you are also asking for respect ! I know that it will work out one day ... yeah, one day !!!

I have to agree with you there. I know what I SHOULD be doing, but sometimes it's hard when you're passionate about something, and it's hard to restrain yourself when dealing with ignorant people. But, I always try to respect other people's opinions, as difficult as that can be at times *lol*

it's the same for me....and even though I'm ready to boil over inside - I've learned to roll with the punches so to speak. However there are times I do speak my mind and it is not always the wisest move.

I hear you - in my job I have to deal with a variety of different people, however we've some students who think "all women should be treated beneath contempt. Not every culture feels this way and not all our students are like that....I guess that is what has helped me over the years learn to walk away or roll with the punches.
