Hi,
hier meine Englischsachen...
On The Road to Fuel-Cell Cars
1.How many fuel-cell are currently being tested around the world?
Every car company has a couple of prototypes.
All together there are 600-800 test vehicles on the roads.
2.If technology is so advanced, why du some people doubt hat car makers will mass-produce fuel-cell vehicles any time soon?
3.How do some of the key elements of hydrogen fuel-cell still need to be improved?
Driving range isn't near the 300 mile minimum driving range
hydrogen storage nedds to be bigger
cut price on fuel-cell drive trains
increase power plant living time
enhance energy output (for SUVs etc.)
4.What are some of the basic problems of storing hydrogen in a vehicle?
The car is too small to fit enough fuel. So the sheer size/volume is the problem
The pressure used today is not high enough to compress it to a small enough size.
5.How much investment would be needed to create an adequate infrasturcture for hydrogen-based transportation?
10-15 billion $

The Next Petroleum
1.How big are biofuels in
a) Brazil
In Brazil bioethanol there is a big and growing market for bio-ethanol. Today there are 320 ethanol plants and 50 more planned for the next five years. Most fuel is cut with 25 percent ethanol, and there are also many cars with flex-fuel engines that can run on straight ethanol. Local and multinational companies are planning $ 6 billion in investments for the next years to expand and also export bioethanol.
b) the US
The production of bioethanol in the US is almost as big as it is in Brazil. It has doubled since 2001 and and now covers 3% of all transport fuel.
c) Germany
Germany is the worlds biggest producer of biodiesel that is made from rapeseed.
d) Asia
The Asian markets for biofuels are growing very fast. They produce fuel out of a variety of plants Japan, for example, has already signed import contracts with Brazil.
2.What makes them so practical
Biofuels reduce greenhouse-gas emissions by about 90 percent, as it emits only carbon-dioxide is has captured from the atmosphere.
Conventional engines can run on stretched fuels and there are also only slightly modified engines that can run on straight fuels.
3.What are some of the problems that could limit their use?
One problem is the amount of land needed to plant the crops to produce the fuel. Also questionable is, if they will be able to take hold without tax credits and subsidies, if oil prices drop. Another problem is the amount of waste produced with today's methods.
4.Which technological advances could make them even more popular in the future?
To cut the amount of land needed scientists are developing methods to use the complete “biomass” to create fuels. This would also cut the amount of waste.
