Th., February, 8th of 2007.
"Natural State" or "Holiday Isle" is written on Tasmanian car plates - though we had to work on another farm (this time: broccoli!) for one week to realise our holidays, what the local cars promise is more than true.
Before we are finally going to start our whole way round Down Under's mainland we decided not only to spend a couple of days on this "holiday nature island", especially after we found out that it's gonna be cheaper to return in shoulder season (from Jan. 26th) for we still have to pay for transporting the car via ferry. In the end we stayed about five weeks, including working and Overland Track and we didn't regret one day (except a few in Launceston while being in a depressive mood for some reasons which are too personal to write about online).
However, for I know that many of you lazy bastards prefer a short information mail to a longer written essay we make it a bit different today.
Everything you're just about to read is originally written in the Rokna Blue board (http://forum.roknablue.de) in forum [AROUND THE WORLD]. E-Mails are merely sent to remind you of that fact, to put in other words: If you are willing to get to know more of what Donnie and me are experiencing while travelling through Australian metropolis+wildernis, there is no way around of visiting the board and its commented picture-galleries.
Even you, Matti, will understand how it's going to work. Trust me. (X
For a first impression and for the lazier ones nevertheless some infos:
ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS I WOULD LIKE TO ASK YOU IF I WOULD BE AT HOME AND YOU IN DOWN UNDER.
Where exactly are you guys now?
Melbourne, VIC. A similar highpopulated city like Berlin. Last sunday we returned from Tasmania by ferry and on Feb, 12th we're probably already on our way to Adelaide in South Australia. That said we're in the very south east of Australia's mainland, driving along the coast to Perth in the very south west.
What's the weather like down there?
Right now it's pretty chilly (doesn't mean chillig in "German" but rather cold or fresh), but we had about 38degree on Monday. Unfortunately I spent most of the time in a record shop instead at the beach. Nevertheless Monday was one of the best days I had in this town so far.
What happened?
I read a letter.
Where are you sleeping and what are you doing these days?
We're staying in a motel for the time being, paying about $150 a week and hopping through St. Kilda's streets and bars at night. I'm currently reading the europe on a shoestring edition by Lonely Planet. I continue writing poetry and want you to have a look at following link: http://www.iphpbb.com/board/ftopic-52075169nx54173-106.html
St. Kilda, by the way, is Melbourne's alternative district, maybe comparable to Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg or Hamburgs St. Pauli, just not that kewl, of course - therefore it has its own beach, a nice pier and even a fairground, Luna Park.
Yesterday Donnie re-registered our car for about $600, which is more than 400EUR, a hellish big amount of money which means that we're going to work again in close future.
As well yesterday I found out that Trent Reznor and NINE INCH NAILS are going to extend their world tour to Down Under and for a flight from West- and Northcoast to a major city on Australia's East coast is not really cheap either I'm going to work again more than very soon.
What about Tasmania? Any travel reports?
Not here. Everything included into the single picture galleries further down in this forum.
Do you miss Berlin?
Kiddin'? (I love that that city a bit more every day I'm away from it but I enjoy everything else in here too much for that I could really be sad about not being home.)
And some of the people here or anywhere else in Europe?
Well, some. (X Of course I'd like to talk to you guys, especially when s'thing really exciting has happened, when I'm in a desperate mood (which actually only happened once or twice) and could need your help or just to chat about funny things that happen or philosophical topics I feel I have to discuss about with somebody.
What is special about Australia in general?
Stupid question... well, let's put it like this: Australian gurls for example are looking always the same for all of them wear dumblooking sunnies (for protecting the whole eye is what they're telling you, but I just think they have no sense for aesthetic). The Simpsons in original soundtrack every single day (and Tuesday even three times!), aye carrramba!! Left-traffic is normal meanwhile. Why are you suckers driving on the right side, eh? The food is excellent, but I don't have the money to buy it. Even Fast Food is too expensive and I seriously miss my beloved Berlin Original Doener (Dirty Kebap for $9,50 is just.... ridicilous). Everything about great nature and freedom is great. Plans are made to be changed. Tab water tastes terrible. They call 06:30 in the afternoon night in Australian TV. Sorry? And Jenny was right, those guys over here are not really creative concerning street names, They're all the same. Ah, one last thing. The animals! Oh my goddess, I love Australian fauna! Ever seen a penguin? Or a dolphin? Shit, no? Or at least a little tree kangaroo? Hrhrhrrr.... well, I did not either. (; But a platypus and koalas and tiger snakes and... ok, that's it for today.
Any regards to anybody?
Now? Here? Iiiieks?!
Ai'ight! I'd like to give regard to my Moooom and my Daaaad and... eeeew~ No, those guys ruined my room. Seriously, following people are on the very top of my list: my big sis and my small sis (who thinks I could have forgotten her birthday), Sylvi (who probably thinks the same), Anne in Eire, Koenigin Luzia (who is annoyed that I didn't write yet, I'm sorry) Jojo (bitte meeeelde dich! Altaa.... ey), cK, Toan, tMt, Phil, Matti (who is a lazy bastard) and Franz, Finchen, Angst, Jenny and Judith, Wodka in HH (despite///), Alina, Jessy in St. Gallen and Alicja and Nadine in HH, Mister Kroe (who is just about to fish this mail out of this rubbish bin+Miss Bruenn and.. oh my god, what am I doing? Mastre M, Marcel, Manitou, Oli, Yog, Flo, derSteffi+Monsier Lehnin, Kathi+Basti+Paulilein and:
I miss you, cerise. You are steadily in my mind.
