Re: From a P47 ?
echodelta - 23.02.2011, 11:40From a P47 ?
My name is E. Dufrasnes from Belgium.
I'm trying to identified a crashed plane not far from my home, in Harchies, Belgium during WW2
We have found some parts with numbers:
bend aluminium part with numbers 89P63.240-2R
a disc ( d:4cm) with the numbers 93P63 27 4
Also parts with a KOLLSMAN factory logo and many 12.7mm ammo.
Could these parts come from a P47D ??
If so, we have a good possibility with
#42-76310 368th FG 397th FS D3- ? 2nd Lt Hickman George K.(KIA) O-719332 11-30-44
Any help would be welcome.
Thank you

Welcome Eric !
The prefix would certainly indicate Republic (P-47D)

If you have more pictures we would very much like to see them.
Just found this:

Dear Paul
We have used the two same websites to identify the plane.
I have some more parts but I need time to take pictures.
Only very small bits can still be found on the site, most of the wreckage has been removed after the crash, it was already in a liberated zone.
I have ordered the accident report of this P47 from accident-report.com and hope to read in it more informations about the circumstances.
The purpose of these researchs is to write a free article for a local historical booklet about the crashs in the area during WWII.
All in all, we have 5 crashs in a 2x2 km zone between oct 43 and april 45.
Two are moreless clearly identified: a Me109G and this P47D.
We are still working on an another american small plane, an american twin engines transport plane and a german plane ( see my post in luftwaffe zone )
Any hope to further identify these parts ?
Thank you.
Eric
PS: Perhaps can you now move this topic in the Republic zone ?

Hello,
numbers 89 and 93 are sure for P47 Thunderbolt.
I couldn't find numbers you wrote for P-47D-25 to D-40 ... So it could be earlier model.
