and very succesfull. The bands last gig was in Los Angeles on tuesday.
Already at the end of March the band will be heard again in Europe, and in the halfway of april
there will also be two gigs in Finland.
-The tour has been nice, and the reactions have been absolutely fantastic. It has been great to see
fans from years back in person. This has been like a return to our roots. In small and intimite
clubs we have not played in a while. This is not much different than in Europe. Though distances between
the gigs are enormous, says Eicca Toppinen of Apocalyptica.
The band has already decided on a new tour in North America in six months.
Next autumn the band will also go to their first tour in South America. They will be playing at least in
Brasil, Argentina and Chile.
-During this tour we will also perform in Canada and Mexico. The audience in Mexico is really fantastic.
They just cry and scream uncontrollably and take the music in with all their soul, Eicca get excited.
Apocalyptica published their fift record in the beginning of this year. The record has reached the top
of the charts in dozens of countries in a short period of time.
-The latest record has had the best start compared to our earlier material. The band has dared to trust
their own vision, and our own musical identity has been discovered through the latest record.
Apocalypticas style has changed over the years from classical cello music to rock music, that is performed with cellos.
The acoustic style has changed transformed to real rock through adding drums and singing.During this journey
they have started to compose and produce their own music.
-Yes, we are a real rock band. Over the years we have transformed into producing composers.
The video of Apocalypticas song Bittersweet won recently the top prize in the annual music video competition,
the Golden Muuvi, Kultainen Muuvi (in Finland). The video was directed by Antti Jokinen.
-Ofcourse, this is a great recognition for the video and the people behind it. It is nice that we are
appreciated in our own country.
During the busy touring they also dream of a week long holiday in the beginning of May. Eicca is dreaming about
working at his garden and regular family life. At home awaits a wife and two kids.
-Luckily my wife is an artist. She understands, what is going on. This is an act of balancing all the time. Sometimes
I even bring the family to gigs.
In the autumn 2006 Apocalyptica is going to have a little creative break and concentrate in planning the next album.
Until then the touring will be active all over the world.
