    Vickers Wellington parts
    Hi everybody,

Here you'll find several other parts from the wreck of "my" Vickers Wellington bomber, codenumber LN466, crashed on the Western Alps in the late November, 1943.

May I ask you for more info about these parts, please?

    Best regards,

    Marco

    Hi,

part # 28516 is a part from the fin or king post
part # 29085 is a part from the gun turret

the digit " 9 44" looks like the date of manufacture, but I´m not sure
are you sure to have the right aircraft found?

photos # 5 looks like the remains of the fuel pump

the letter "AGS" is a short cut for "Aircraft General Standart" (means standart parts (bolts, rivets nuts, ect.)) and was used on some aircrafts

    regards
    Nils

    Hi,

Yes, these parts come from the wreck of the LN466, this is sure. Not only from the other remainings, already posted in this same forum and in other Internet fora during the previous years!, but also from local witnesses and other proofs - for instance, an identification medal of the pilot, parts of Australian battle dress uniforms, and the fact that after the war, the MRES research groups found the wreck and discovered the correct codenumber of the LN466 on the stairboard engine. All these documents are available; for instance, other official letters sent in 1946 and 1947 from London to Melbourne clearly placed the crash site of this precise plane in "Issime, Milan", and it is where I found it.

May I ask you to indicate the other pics with their number, please?
Thank you very much for this kind help! :D

    Hi again,

According to a kind expert who contacted me, part three (the small "pump") is an outer sleeve from the hydraulic system of the plane.

    Hi all again,

after a new trip on the crash site, here you'll find some pics of a single part.
Thank you for your kind help and patience.

    Hi,

the new photos show a support strut from one of the wings (28507=Wing).

The crash site looks very impressive. Do you know more about the fate of the crew?

    Regards
    Nils

Hello Marco, I believe photo 11 is a cowling gill from the rear of the engine. Above the wheel on this photo. There are lots in a ring and link together without screws.

The crash site looks a miserable place to die.

    Hi and thanks indeed,

    Very interesting!
Yes, the last picture shows the crash site (Mount Voghel, 2925 meters on the Western Alps, in the group of the so-called Dame di Challand or Ladies of Challand) from east, just before to come down from the mountain.
A very sad and far place to die, I agree with you.

Concerning your kind question about the crew, yes, I have many details, thanks to my research and above all to their families.

This is from the 142 Squadron ORB for the night of November 24th, 1943.

    Wellington X P. LN466
    F/S Wade J. P
    A.410323 F/S Glenwright A. N
    A.415664 F/S Knapp J. B
    Sgt Carter K. W/Op
    Sgt Lawrence K. RG
    Up: 16.41
    6x500, 2x250

The plane just sent an ETA message at 22.45 and then disappeared in the storm, crashing against this mountain.
Thank you for all your precious help, I am trying to identify all the possible parts of this plane - unfortunately is very hard to climb up there, and it is possible only in the late month of august, due to the snow.
