    Lumsk
I'm not sure that this band has been discussed. I love their music very very much! They're from Norway and play music based on the ballads from Telemark. The plot is really enchanting. Well, I guess you all know that band already. It just deserves to have a special thread in this new forum :)

Lumsk is great, i love their song structures, and "Ormin Lange" has like the greatest intro, ever!! :P .

I think Lumsk fans would like Ásmegin, and vice versa.

Lumsk is a bit special i would say, both with the sound and with the lyrics. i remember first time i heard Lumsk (i can be very very critical to new bands and new sounds and all), i totally contempted them, i laughed and though that this were very bad music. i also thought that they were a joke first, that they didn't were serious. but, after listening to the album several times and i had really tried to put it in over me, i was like "shit, this isn't as bad as i thought it were". and i must say that i'm suprised that it is actually good. and yeah, Ormin Lange and I Trollihender is my fav ones from this band!

Really? Is it because of lyrics or music itself? Maybe there are things that only Norwegian people understand... Btw, do they really sing original folk songs or they write lyrics themselves?

I heard that their songs are original Norwegian folk tales.

Hrist, can you tell us a bit about their lyrics?

About Lumsk's music as it is written on their homepage: "Åsmund Frægdegjevar is a lyric based upon a medieval folksong from Telemark in Norway. The tale is written in the old language of Norway and can be found in several versions, with only slightly altering lyrics in each variation. But the main story is always the same; it tells the tale of the hero Åsmund Frægdegjevar who rescues the fair princess from the evil female ogre that has kidnapped her and keeps her captured inside Trollebotten…."

    it says further that:

"The story begins when the king gathers all his men to find someone brave enough to save his beloved
daughter. The King appoints Åsmund Fregdegjævar to be her saviour. Åsmund takes his brothers with him and borrows the Kings famous ship - Ormin Lange - for the journey across the sea and into the ogres gloomy castle. But when they arrive, his brothers refuse to enter the castle and Åsmund is left on his own.

Åsmund walks through a number of dark, empty halls until he finally finds the fair princess and he
immediately falls in love with her. But she is bewitched into believing that the ogre is her beloved mother and has no desire to leave the castle. Åsmund sees no other option than to try and take her with him by force.

Suddenly "Skomegyvri" enters the room - the evil ogre herself - and the fight between her and Ås-mund begins. There is a long, violent fight with a lot of bloodshed and curses thrown at each other. Finally Åsmund slays "Skomegyvri" and wins the fight. The story ends with Åsmunds triumphant arrival home to the Kinds castle - with his daughter and all of the ogres treasures."

well, i hope you understand a bit more about Lumsk's music now, and if it is any more questions about anything, just ask and i'll see what i can do. ok?!

    I dont realt like Lumsk...
First of all they sing about Olav Tryggvason, whom was a christian viking. (He converted sometime between 990-993 in England if I remember correctly)

    Secound they sing;
Eg hev vori i dei kristne lando
    Der folki kallar på gud
    Eg e sterkar hell du

(I have been in the christian lands
where the people calls on/prays to God
    I am stronger than you)

Wich indicates that the Christian ppl are stronger then the Heathens (or the True Norwegian Vikings ;p)

Ofcourse I could be wrong, but atleast thats my view :)
