    Your favorite sub-genre?
Within the diversity of doom, which sub-genres do you enjoy the most?? At least for me, death-doom and funeral doom.

np: Until Death Overtakes Me - Missing

    I listen to:
Black hinted doom, Folk hinted doom, Death-doom, Gothic-doom, Doom, Classic Doom, and some Funeral Doom.

    Favorite two: Gothic-Doom, and Death-Doom.

I strongly dislike Drone Doom, and most Funeral. (really depends on the band for funeral)

    Re: Your favorite sub-genre?

    Rekkr - 07.11.2004, 00:40

Some drone doom is cool. I like Pelican.

    Re: Your favorite sub-genre?

    Martyrium - 08.11.2004, 20:53

I can't stand drone doom, i just don't get it, and i don't like the fact that "nothing ever happens".
I agree, and must admit that Pelican seems cool (maybe because they're more melodic), 5ive had some couple of nice moments, and Buried At Sea seems fun. I like Hlidolf but that's ambient too.

I've heard about a jazz tribute album, with doom metal bands on it... Sunn 0))) playing jazz? Does anybody knows something about it??

    Your favorite sub-genre?
Hmmm...that might be interesting. I love sad, melancholic Jazz and I think it could suit nicely with Doom, since it's relatively depressing. Actually, the instruments are perfect for it; piano, trumpet, violin...

As for the Drone Doom, I'm not too fond of it either. I have one album by this Japanese band called Boris and I don't enjoy it all.

Well, I pretty much like Doom in general, but my favourite sub-genre would be Death Doom. Then Black Doom, Gothic Doom and Folk Doom. I listen to Funeral Doom sometimes.

    Re: Your favorite sub-genre?

    Martyrium - 13.11.2004, 01:57

Then why do you keep it? :P Haven't heard much Boris, but some say each album is different a bit, don't know.

Man, i've tryied to dig drone... but i just don't get it, sometimes i think people who really dig it need some help... :P

I've been listening to a lot of Goatsnake lately, their stuff seems really fun to me. :)

    They're just fun :)

    Re: Your favorite sub-genre?

I've been listening to Cult of Luna a lot lately, the music has this diverse "introspective" feeling to it (kinda like Mar de Grises) and this "subtle chaos" in their songs. They're like (a melodic kind of) sludge doom with hardcore vocals (!), but i think that wouldn't be enough to categorize them. Intelligent doom.

np: Cult of Luna - Salvation :D

    Re: Your favorite sub-genre?

    Downtrodden - 22.11.2004, 13:08

Wow, they sound so my cup of tea, according to your description, Mario.
I've always thought they're shit for some reason... I think I mixed them up with someone else.
Well, thank you for enlightening my ignorant assumption, I'm definitely going to check them out (again).

    Re: Your favorite sub-genre?

    Martyrium - 27.11.2004, 04:20

I didn't know you knew Isis, that'd be a most accurate comparison. I'm addicted to both bands, even if they're not really "metal".

    Re: Your favorite sub-genre?

    Downtrodden - 27.11.2004, 11:32

Yes, same here. I've loved Isis for ages. They've got this fresh and hard sound, very modern. And the way the songs develop... *creams*
I'm planning to devote more attention in the future to Neurosis also.

    Re: Your favorite sub-genre?

    Martyrium - 27.11.2004, 19:16

What a coincidence... Np: Neurosis - Lexicon.

I know!! besides the progressions, i love how fucking atmospheric they are!

Isis and Cult of Luna are great!

I've just found another good band: Callisto. "Slugdecore"??
