I'm a new Edgar A. Poe fan but once I saw "The Fall of the House of Usher" for my school play, I was hooked. I really like his works even though I'm a high schooler who isn't goth at all. So i guess I just wanted to say hi !

We are not Goth Hunny, that´s a point definetively settled.
Maybe some members are - but this is not a Gothic forum, it is an Edgar Allan Poe fan forum...
Many people say that Eddy "founded" the Gothic genre. But he didn´t found the gothic genre but the horror genre. The Goths of course often read Poe because his works are actually the ground for their excistence - but Poe did not mean to form a Gothic group. He wrote about what fascinated him the most:
Death, Blood, Torture, Pain, Inquisition, Canibalism - in a word, the dark side of life. But we must not see only this side of him. He was a man of huge talent - for every literary aspect. We must as well look at his criticism, his brilliant cynism, his humor, his poetry and all the other talents he had.
He was a genius, and he lives on in the hearts of the few who still love im today.
And that´s why I founded this forum.
I´m not a believer, but if there´s a God or a Devil it´s both Edgar Allan Poe.

I'm so sorry if I might have offended you in any way but that isn't what I meant at all! You see, where I live and go to school, if you like Edgar A. Poe you are automatically labeled as a goth. Believe me I can fully understand what you are saying and I have told many people very similar things before when they ask why I like his works. I was just very excited to find some one (even if it means on the internet) that thinks the same way and can appreciate him and his works. Sorry about the misunderstanding!

You´re right, when you like Eddy everyone´s thinking of you as Gothic.
But well, maybe it´s good that I said it again, even if you think the same way, maybe someone - any ignoramus - reads this by chance and recognizes who Edgar Allan Poe the person is, what his works are like and why we love him.
Though I´m afraid noone who isn´t a Poe fan will understand it...
Well but by the way, Welcome to you, I absolutely forgot it. Sorry. You´re very welcome here - in our "family" of Poe fans.
By the way, how did you find us?
