In letzter Zeit gab es viel Beef um 50 Cent. Erst der Beef mit Jadakiss und Fat Joe, dann mit seinem eigentlich Partner The Game, und dann sogar bis hin in sein eigenes Label, mit Eminem und Dre.
Der "Beef" zwischen "50 Cent" Jackson und Jayceon "The Game" Taylor ist nun aber vorbei. Gestern hielten die beiden eine gemeinsame Pressekonferenz im New Yorker "Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture": Sie verkündeten den Ende ihres Streites und spendeten gleichzeitig 253,500 US-Dollar an den "Boys Choir of Harlem". Nach dem üblichen "shake hands" für die Fotografen wendete sich zuerst 50 Cent, der vor kurzen seine eigene Wohltätigkeitsorganisation "G-Unity Foundation Inc." gegründet hat, mit einem Statement an das Publikum:
Zitat: "In the shadow of the untimely death of Biggie, today marks the anniversary of his death, we’re here today to show that people can rise above even the most difficult circumstances and together we can put negativity behind us. A lot of people don’t want to see it happen but we’re responding to the two most important groups, that’s ourselves and our fans. Overall I feel like this is an opportunity for people to see us make peace!"
Schließlich stieg auch The Game auf das Podium und entschuldigte sich in seinem Statement unter anderem bei seinen Fans und seinem Label:
Zitat: "I came a long way to be here today. On behalf of myself and 50 I want to say that we’re making a statement that is a lot louder than the sound of just two voices. We showing that you can control your destiny. Hip-hop is much more bigger than y’all. I seen Russell Simmons speak in front of the Minister Farrakhan and that’s when I was just Jayceon Taylor. No Game, no rap skills, no nothing, just broke and hungry from the hood. There’s a lot of reasons that I’m here. I could stand here all day and talk to all you guys, but I just want to apologize on behalf of myself and 50 Cent to the fans, to the radio stations, to my labels... and uh, I’m almost ashamed to have participated in the things that went on in the last couple of weeks. So I’m here, I’m apologetic."
An der Körpersprache konnte man allerdings erkennen, dass die beiden weit davon entfernt sind, gut Freunde zu sein. Auf der einen Seite scheint da wohl der Druck des Labels zu groß gewesen zu sein. Auf der anderen Seite könnte der ganze Beef ein reiner Promotionstunt gewesen sein. Wie auch immer, den Verkaufszahlen des neuen 50 Cent Albums "The Massacre" scheint es geholfen zu haben: Innerhalb von nur 5 Tagen hat sich der Longplayer in den USA fast 1,2 Millionen mal verkauft und wird nächste Woche natürlich auf Platz 1 der US-Billboard Album-Charts stehen. Desweiteren ist Fitty mit drei Singles in den Billboards Top 5 vertreten ("Candy Shop", "Disco Inferno" und "How We Do") - das hat vor ihm noch keiner geschafft.
