The following is a review written by our Programme Director Mark Bee. It is about an artist who just released a GREAT pop Cd and is remastering some of it in Italian! Check out Kyle Puccia's website at http://www.kylepuccia.com
REAL POP
What makes an Pop Music Idol? Is it a television show? A million record sales? Maybe it's something more, complex. Kyle Puccia is an artist who is just emerging with a debut CD that sets him far apart from other 'newbies' in music. The profundity of his lyrics and his unwavering, powerful delivery make Kyle one to watch.
The Pop / Rock offering, 'Identity' is, perhaps, the best new album by an indie artist in twenty years. It's easy to listen to and packs a punch that is sorely missed in popular music as of late. Kyle is an enigma of sorts, part theatrical rock Ala Meatloaf or The Who, part delivery extrodinaire reminiscent of Bowie, and part amazing vocal talent and presence, not unlike recent pop star Ricky Martin.
Track by track this CD would stack up to any released in the last decade. The first single, 'Addicted to You' takes the overdone love lost angst and turns it inside out. Meaningful lyrics combined with a moving melody tell a story as well as any song has. You find yourself trapped in Kyle's head, and feeling his pain. You also find yourself humming the tune for hours.
The lead track 'I Want You Back' is a modern song with a familiar feel. Kyle has a way of pulling us into his inner circle, and not letting us out. As is the case with the song 'Idiot', we are in the driver's seat of a relationship car wreck. Remorseful, but resilient, Kyle pulls us from the wreckage. 'Idiot' is the stand out track on the Cd.
'Sit Back, Relax' and 'Open Your Eyes' are each songs that epitomize the stereo typical tales of living in L.A. The ballad 'Open Your Eyes' is a vehicle showcasing Kyle's voice.
'So Alive' is a little harder to qualify. Over the top theatrical rock at it's finest, this duet, (done with Elysa Gomez), is a pleasant musical rest stop on the 'Identity' highway. In other words, it's like Murry Head, Meatloaf, and the Who's 'Tommy' meet the year 2004.
Other Tracks; 'In Her eyes', 'Inner Circle' and 'Open Your Eyes' give you a better picture of the man behind the music. What's going on in his head, and what he has experienced living in the two big metros NYC and LA.
'A Way' is the other stand out track on the CD destined for airplay on today's radio stations. Hard driving, soulful, and spirited this might be the best glimpse of real Kyle. An autobiographical journey through the mind of the artist in real time.
Finishing off the CD is the psychedelic impetus over the edge called 'Fantasy World in a Closet'. Listen to this one with only your lava lamp on, but do listen to it.
If only every new artist would break the mold and step outside the "formula" the way this one has. 'Identity' is the best pop rock CD of 2005 thus far. Kyle has certainly found his 'Identity' with this CD.
