Do you want to know how German people party?
I am back from our meeting and the party ... we didn´t stay long, because it was kind of boring. I don´t know if you guys know a bit about German music, but they this band they had there was only playing those "Schlager" and it was just ... yearg - most of the people freaked out, but we were just trying to get out of there (but I wanted to talk to the big boss before leaving - see the thread "Help to save nature")

here you can get an impression of how we felt (pic 1) and how German people do party (pic 2) LOL:

Well,it seems like Germany people can party.
I understand if you left when they started to play "Schlager".
That is not my type of music.

And people started singing and making fun out of themselves ... some of them looked quite dead this morning ... lol ... I was doing fine ... lol ... but I would have loved to hear this guy, who is one of my bosses, sing on the stage !!!

Because he´s from my town and I needed to watch him - he was soooooooo cool, because he´s such a crazy guy anyways. He´s having a christmas show here next week ...

Sorry, I do not know how to explain it.
Maybe you can say it is music from Eurovision Song Contest?

Re: Do you want to know how German people party?

    newnativspirit - 11.12.2006, 17:35

well, it´s more than that ... first of all it is in German ... lol ... well, and it is that kind of lyrics where they talk about love and feelings most of the times - it´s a bit oldfashioned and pretty simply, so people can join singing it and clapping their hands. It´s pretty popular (which I don´t understand ... )

maybe this website can help you

Re: Do you want to know how German people party?

    newnativspirit - 11.12.2006, 18:52

or try this one - this is even worse - lol - what they do describe here is more the German Volksmusik - lol - Schlager is a bit more modern, but still the same type of people do sing it and it´s sooooooooooooooo funny to watch them - they are pretty good actors as well, because they feel their own music - lol

hihihi - got some pics for you!

Ok - the first two pics are just promotion pics. The other pictures are made at the "Fersehgarten" a German TV show. This is my son together with some of our most famous Schlager-stars:

Were those pics made because of the "Mülltonnenrennen"?

Do you know the Swedish Group ABBA? That is alomost like
schlager music for people in Sweden.

Re: Do you want to know how German people party?

    Idril - 11.12.2006, 20:51

But German Schlager music is much much different from that!

Re: Do you want to know how German people party?

    Mela - 11.12.2006, 20:54

We have Schlager music here in Sweden too. But I guess it is not the same as in Germany. I should keep my mouth shout in this topic.

Re: Do you want to know how German people party?

    Idril - 11.12.2006, 21:03

I didn't want you to shut your mouth. Sorry. :( It's just that German schlager is so.... ahm... You have to hear it.

Re: Do you want to know how German people party?

    newnativspirit - 11.12.2006, 21:32

I guess I know what Mela was trying to tell us ... in each country there are bands and music which should represent the culture a bit ... folk music developed and when it became more modern it was Schlager back here - young people usually don´t like it that much, but the elder people love it, also because it´s in their language! So ABBA was a Swedish band, but became popular all over the world - especially in Germany - me too, I loved ABBA !!! But for a looooooooooong time they were representing Sweden in music world ... maybe for the Swedish people it´s their Schlager music ...

Thanks for the info ladies, I think I understand what you're getting at! :D As for ABBA, is there anybody in the world who doesn't know of them? *lol* We recently had a concert on TV with our Australian singers doing covers of old ABBA songs - it was great! I think ABBA was more successful in Australia than most other countries too. :P

Re: Do you want to know how German people party?

    newnativspirit - 12.12.2006, 10:27

ABBA is still very popular - especially because of the musical !!! I would love to see it as well ... the audience must be singing and dancing - yeah! LOL That´s what little Annie needs from time to time ... LOL

I´ve been to "Saturday Night Fever" in Cologne - it was great, too! I was a big Bee Gee´s fan when I was young ... don´t tell anybody !!! LOL It was the same there: the audience was singing and dancing ...

I saw the "ABBA musical" last fall. it was soooo great.

I loved Afternoon Delight when I was a kid! I had no idea it was about ..ahem.. I thought it was about fireworks in the sky. LLLLOOOOLLLL

Mama Mia has received excellent reviews State-side as well. I have not seen it personally, but it think it would be cool to watch. I was such a tot when they were big, that I really didn't get the meaning of their songs. Kind of like a lot of the 70's bands. Now that I'm older I can read through the lines and figure out what was really meant.
