hi fellas,
recently a friend of mine got a queen-live killer (2 cd). on track 3
of disc 1 (Death On Two Legs) there is a beeped out section from
freddie's talk. it's like "this next song is from 'a night at the
opera' . this is about a 'beep-beep-beep' we call him 'death on two
legs' " so, if anyone has this album, could you check it please?

Yes , this is how the record was pressed back in 1979. The song is
about their former manager, so I'm sure they didn't want to be sued for
whatever was actually said!

Dsa mit dem Manager stimmt. Der hat Queen ziemlich übern Tisch gezogen, sozusagen. Das ganze Geld einkassiert usw. Und deswegen hat Freddie diesen Song "für" ihn geschrieben. :wink:
Ich nehme einfach mal an, das beep ist deswegen, weil man den Namen da nicht erwähnen darf ODER weil Freddie sonst noch irgendwelche bösen Worte "verloren" hat. :wink:

Ja...das hatte ich dabei auch im Hinterkopf ;-)
Und ansonsten ist es so, dass ich ab und zu auf Queen-News stosse (z.B. das mit J.B.Kerner)...oder in Zep-Foren über Queen gesprochen wird...und ich dann oft nicht weiss, ob es für euch interesssant ist. Aber bevor ich was wichtiges "unterschlage"...poste ich lieber mal etwas, was vielleicht nicht so interessant ist ;-)
Und wenn es sogar in englisch ist, kapiere ich so schnell gar nicht den Sinn (erst später)...dann lese ich nur 'Queen'...und wups...kommt es hierhin

John's songs are brilliant-
Innuendo is very, very sad, since it was their last album. What I was talking about was: The song Delilah was about Freddie's cat. Almost a last goodbye to her, he loved cats. They say 2 things about that song
1) The other band didnt like it at all...but since they put their arguements aside for poor Freddie, it made it to the album.
2)Many vocal overdubs were used in the song. In one of them, the lyrics are- "Delilah, you make me smile when I'm just about to cry". When your hear another take of the same line, you hear "You make me smile, when Im just about to die". I know it sounds stupid, but u gotta hear it, its so clear...
That's sad. It might be your imagination? I don't know...I do want that album though, because I hear that it is awesome. And the Show Must Go On is one of the best songs ever. It makes me sad when I listen to it.
wembley dvd is one of the best shows ever, it is a pure concert experience, the energy is amazing. i think it shows how they could perform these grand songs as well as do great rock music and it makes for a great great dvd.
Yeah, Wembly is awesome. I think that my favorite parts are when you can see how connected they were with the audiance and how much the fans loved them. I mean, those were a lot of fans there! I love it when Freddie just starts singing random notes and the crowd echos it all back to him and he just looks completely baffled by it, lol. I also think it's awesome when they are doing Radio Ga Ga and the whole crowd starts doing the hand-clapping thing.
Freddy was the best frontman ever.

Brian May said that they used to play "The Immigrant Song" in soundchecks just for the glory of the sound.

Bad sound,and not in his tip top vocal shape, but good ol' freddie does sound a bit as Percy actually - as does the band.
They are musical gods, and Freddie Mercury was the best rock singer to ever walk the planet.
They are one of the best and most unique sounding bands ever to walk the earth.
Well, I can't change your opinions about Brian May, but I think that he was (and is) a splended guitarist. He is also completely unique. You recognize him and when you hear a song you know it is him right away, regardless of if you have heard that song before or not. I think that his guitar tone is wonderful, and again, unique. And even if you don't like his tone, you can't really use that to say that he's a crappy guitar player. Blame the tone on the guitar that he built out of a 200 year old mantel place and the amp that John Deacon made for him. It's because of those things that his tone is unlike any other guitarist on earth.
It's FREDDIE Mercury. Spell it right if you want to dis him.
Who cares if he was gay? A lot of musicians are gay. A lot of people are gay. It doesn't do anything to affect their talent. Freddie Mercury, I am sure, would have been just as great of a singer if he were straight.

Freddie Mercury is set to release new records from beyond the grave.
Queen star Brian May has uncovered tapes of his late bandmate "tinkering around" in the studio and is planning to turn them into several new songs.
He revealed: "There are still some things in the vaults with Freddie messing about on vocals which fans won't have heard. There are bits of him tinkering around, which could be used.
"I expect they will get released at some point because I am sure people will want to hear them."
John's in retiremnet, isn't he?
I've heard that a few years ago some1 walked into a bar and noticed John, and yelled "John!!! Look, the bassist of Queen" Can I have your autograph?" and John ran away into the crowd, and nobody's seen him! cheesy
But if you're looking at this, John Deacon, I just want you to know that you're an awesome bassist and song-writter, rock on!

I love Queen... and I really can't believe I did this mistake...
Brighton Rock... The sound of Brian's guitar is amazing.
As you ca see, Queenis one of my favourite bands. Freddie's voice is one of the most haunting and impressive in rock music (not to mention his stage performer skills), Brian can be both a guitar orchestra director or a guitar hero, with a very solid rhythm foundation of Roger's drums-a-la-Ginger-Baker and John's classic-style bass.
They are right up there with Led Zeppelin.
Queen was what brought me to Led Zep, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, EVERYTHING!!

Hot Space is dreadful. Freddie said the best thing about this almbum is the silence between the songs. I agree.
a true TRUE fan would also have the album that Queen sang backing vocals on in 1976 - do you?
Which one was that?
Ian Hunter - "All American Alien Boy". Queen were big pals of his from his days touring with them in Mott The Hoople ( "Down in the city just Hoople and me") and they came in and sang on the track "You Nearly Did Me In ", which is one of my favourite songs of all time. Roger in particular does a spectacular job. yes Great album too if you can ever get your hands on it.
Ha ha yeah I met Roger when he played drums for Robert Plant at a one off TV recording. And a mate of mine played bass for Brian on one of his solo tours so we all had a few drinkies at the hotel after one of the shows. It was a bit surreal because Queen were my favourite band when I was 10 - I had an older sister.
I don't understand why they ever got rid of that awesome logo.
Yeah, I don't really get that either.
Did you know that Freddie Mercury had drawn that?
Stone Cold Crazy is possibly the heaviest song of the seventies. The live versions are spectacular, in particular Houston 77.

Queen's my second favorite band, although have been a favorite band the longest ever since I was a kid. All members are awesome on their respective instruments (John has really cool bass lines) and Freddy is the best frontman there was (although he shares the spotlight with Robert Plant, in my opinion).
They have a unique style, just like Led Zeppelin and I'm beginning to think that there's more than a couple of resemblances between them two.
the guys in queen and all the guys in zeppelin were good friends,and have remained that way since the 70s.freddy is the greatest singer ever,imo.when i saw queen,they were so good that night it should have been criminal.i can see why may and taylor want to get out there and perform cause they are so great at it,and paul rodgers can't(nor could anyone else)take freddie's place,but he is a damn fine substitute,and is a shitload better than their 1st choice,that shithead robbie williams is'nt he?i have all queen's cds,in the 70s they were by far my 2nd fave band.
I also fail to see where Queen was trying to sound like Zep. Again, I've never been a big fan but I think they were influential in their own right and I definitely don't see them as "Creed" to "Zep's Pearl Jam". It would be one thing if their sound was indentical in that respect but I simply don't hear it. I can think of lots of other bands that tried to imitate Zeppelin but I've honestly never thought of Queen as one of them.
Okay, whoever said that Queen was a Zep clone is an idiot who hasn't heard the music. THE TWO SOUND NOTHING ALIKE.
That aside, I LOVE Queen. They are my second favorite band. Freddie Mercury was THE best singer in the history of the universe.
If I love Led Zeppelin 100% then I love Queen 99%, although I prefer Queen's 70s songs a little more.
I love Freddie. I've always loved that whole flamboyant uniqueness about him, something that can never be duplicated.
I don't buy into the whole Zep cloning thing. They have a lot of things in common (eg. death of band member resulted to break-up of band - even though May and Taylor have worked together many times after that... flamboyant frontmen... awesome guitarists... both guitarists formed the band... great ballads...). But both bands had different appearances on stage. Zeppelin had more of the hippie rock look while Queen got into the glam rock look. But it was a well known fact that Brian May was a fan of Led Zeppelin, in particular Jimmy, while Roger Taylor basically idolized Bonham, and Robert thought Freddie had one of the best voices.
But Queen was known for it's piano rock and opera sound while Zeppelin was known for what we already know.
I love Queen. Freddie Mercury has one of the greatest rock voices of all time. He has such a strong range, he could take one note and turn it into something amazing. I was watching the Live Aid DVD not to long ago and it came up to Queen’s performance. They stole the show completely, when it ended I wanted more, I couldn’t watch the rest of the DVD after it. Of course I watched it later, but at that point I just wanted more Queen.
I read all the comparisons made between Queen and other bands of the 70’s. I don’t see it at all, to me Queen were their own thing. They were like listening to an opera in rock form. I love how Freddy treated the piano, and May’s guitar tone is almost unbeaten.
I, and several others have also said we don't hear the similarities in Queen's music. If they are there, the differences outweigh the similarities by a longshot. Queen has always sounded pretty unique to me and I've definitely never mistaken one of their songs for anything by Zeppelin and vice versa.
I think the similarities mentioned are not so much in the songs they created but how their albums were produced. I honestly don’t feel Queen sound like Led Zeppelin, but the formula they used was very similar. However, Queen were their own thing and can stand apart from Zeppelin as a unique entity. To say Queen ripped Led Zeppelin off in anyway is wrong.
Now that we are on the subject, I always felt that Stairway to Heaven and Bohemian Rhapsody were very similar. Before you take out the flame throwers allow me a moment to explain myself. I am not trying to suggest that they <I>sound</I> the same, just that they feel the same. Quite brooding intro, gradually building to a rocking guitar fest, then back down to a brooding outro. Actually if you play Bohemian Rhapsody and then Stairway to Heaven back to back and find yourself a cross fader and set it to a 10 second fade it does create a unique mix. You can hear the gong crash at the end up Bohemian as the guitar intro for Stairway begins. Anyone with Windows Media Player or something similar should try it.
Queen and Zeppelin are my two favorite bands. Zeppelin had more of the hard rock stuff going on, while Queen was quite a little bit more glam. Zeppelin didn't sing Opera. I doubt that Zeppelin would ever record a song that sounded like "Good Old Fasioned Loverboy." At the same time, Queen could never do something like When the Levee Breaks. It just wouldn't work. I have never mistaken one for the other, and I bet that you are the only one who has. The two have COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STYLES.
I think the first Queen album is testimony that Zep were a big influence. The same can be said about the first Rush album. Both bands moved on to develop their own distinct styles. I'm sure the same can be said about many other less successful bands. Zep laid a lot of foundations for what would follow.

Ich glaube, bei vielen anderen wird das geteilt sein. Kommt drauf an, aus welcher "Ecke" die Fans kommen. :wink: Einer, der Queen hört und aber mehr die "poppigen" Sachen mag, der wird Zep vielleicht nicht so mögen, als jemand, der hauptsächlich die 70er Queen und die Rocksachen mag.
Ich kann mir fast vorstellen, dass es von den Leuten, die als erstes Zep Fan waren, mehr gibt, die Queen mögen als von denen, die als erstes Queen Fans waren und Zep mögen. Verwirrend, ich weiß. Wie gesagt, ich könnte es mir vorstellen, ob´s so ist, keine Ahnung.
Ich finde es fast schon "lustig", dass bei den Zitaten eben auch das Ähnlichkeitsthema zwischen Queen und Zep angesprochen wurde. :grin: Und die Fans da sind mir seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehr sympathisch, weil ja doch die meisten Queen als "eigenes Ding" ansehen, was sie ja auch sind.

Aber ich glaube, dass die deutschen Fans in diesem Punkt nicht repräsentativ für die Queen-Fans 'überhaupt' (international) sind ;-)
Ich habe ja auch schon öfter in "englischen" Queen-Foren geschnüffelt...wobei ich meistens den Eindruck hatte, dass die internationalen Fans mehr Richtung Rock tendieren, und auch stärker an der Queen-Musik selbst interessiert sind...wobei die deutschen Fans oft eher an Pop interessiert sind...und welche "Frisuren bei welchem Mitglied am sexiesten sind" ;-)
Aber vielleicht hängt das auch manchmal mit dem Alter zusammen, und weniger mit "deutsch"...keine Ahnung :roll:
Oder ich pflege hier wieder mal meine Vorurteile :lol:

Hier ein paar internationale Queen-Fans (gaaanz anders, als die deutschen Fans)...das stimmt schon versöhnlicher ;-)
Queen and Led Zeppelin are my two favourite bands by a country mile...
As far as I'm concerned in the pantheon of rock Gods, Queen and Led Zeppelin sit high in the clouds, and there ain't anyone else with them.

Listen to that album (LZ I) and behold the birth of a legend.
Zeppelin and Queen are my two all time favourite rock bands, and in each their own way have influenced millions of people.
Also, I'm keen to hear how many others see Queen and Led Zeppelin to be a rather large step above any other rock acts in the past 30 years.
You are right, my friend...Zep rocks my world....Queen is always my favorite band by far...But Zep rocks me...When I first bought their live DVD last year, I practically wore it out...I remember a pic with Brian and Jimmy Page at some function many years ago...A great pic....
Just watch The Ocean from the DVD, from Madison Square Garden...It could just go on and on forever..
Led Zeppelin were/are a great band.
Robert (Rubber) Plant makes me laugh in a good way.. He's genious
Led Zeppelin is my all time favorite band...they do somethin for me that no other band does...the music just has something indescribable...passion maybe, I don't know...it has a human quality that most bands can't come close to getting at...it always touches me...

I can't really say whether I prefer them or Queen but they are both amazing bands and I wish there were more bands like that these days...

Durch die vielen schönen Kommentare (über Zep) durch die "englischen" Queen-Fans ist es ja schon "bewiesen", dass es stimmt ;-)
Die Deutschen können wohl im Allgemeinen nicht so viel mit Zep anfangen :cry:
Das scheint sich nicht nur auf manche Queen-Fans hier zu beschränken...das ist ein allgemeines Phänomen, das eben vor deutschen Queen-Fans nicht halt macht ;-)
Aber ein bisschen traurig macht es mich schon, dass "meine" Band in aller Welt anerkanntermassen die "grösste" Rockband ist (oder zumindest einer der grössten)...nur in meinem Heimat-Land laufen sie (fast) unter "ferner liefen" :cry:

Und wenn die deutschen nicht so viel mit Zep anfangen können. Was soll´s? :roll: Ist doch egal, hauptsache, man mag seine Musik selber, dann ist es doch egal, ob jetzt der Großteil der Deutschen Zep mögen oder nicht.

Habe gerade zufällig entdeckt, dass es im "Planet Zeppelin-Forum" auch eine Menge "Hardcore-Queen-Fans" geben muss. Bei dem Thread 'Calling Queen fans' haben die insgesamt 29 Seiten gepostet!!! Puuuuhhh :lol:
Darunter sehr viele "Storys" über Queen und viele Bilder und auch Zeichnungen. Kann ich hier natürlich nicht alles wiedergeben...
Ich weiss auch nicht, ob das für unsere anderen "Queenies" interessant wäre (Julia + Jo sind ja dort schon)...dann müsstet ihr euch dort registrieren, sonst kann man dort wohl nichts lesen :roll:

The Times reports that Brian May, the multimillionaire guitarist who founded the rock group QUEEN, has finally completed the PhD in astrophysics that he abandoned more than 30 years ago.
The 59-year-old composer of hits such as "Fat Bottomed Girls" and "We Will Rock You" turned his back on the stars for international fame with Freddie Mercury and his band. His thesis on interplanetary dust clouds lay gathering dust of its own in the attic of his home in Surrey.
May's interest in the subject was rekindled last year when he co-authored a children's science book with the astronomer Sir Patrick Moore. He discovered that remarkably little research had been done in the intervening 33 years.
He dug out his old handwritten notes and spent nine months conducting further research at Imperial College, London, where he had studied before QUEEN hit the big time.

I'm not sure why, but I find that terribly endearing.
I agree. If a millionaire can push himself and do the hard work necessary to get a PhD, it shows character and resilience. I'm not a Queen fan, so now I have a reason to respect the man.

At that time (1991) Freddie was very ill suffering from AIDS and STILL gave an outstanding performance.
Queen footage from Live Aid, wow what a difference. That performance has stood the test of time.
Sometimes I think Queen doesn't get the credit they deserve.
yeah, queen was a spectacular live band. when i think absolute bombast (in a good way), i think queen - WAY before i'd pick zep, the who, u2 or any other arena gods.

Ich finde Freddie nicht sooo sexy eigentlich. Schon irgendwie aber nicht mein "Liebling" oder so, was das betrifft, das is jemand anderes. :wink: Für mich gab es an Freddie immer mehr als das Aussehen, was mich gereizt hat. Was mich wirklich immer gereizt hat, war seine Person und die Musik. Natürlich finde ich ihn hübsch und auch sexy und gutaussehend, charmant und so. Aber eben nicht am sexiesten, am gutaussensten usw. :wink:

Wie gesagt, der Reiz an Freddie ist für mich in erster Linie seine Musik und seine Person.
Das Aussehen ist eh nicht das wichtigste, das ist höchstens ein netter Bonus, mehr nicht. :wink:
