Zanppa - 03.11.2006, 23:47Frostmaine [Glacial Wolf]
I have an idea for a hero; Frostmane [Class: Glacial Wolf]
A description of the hero:
Large even in the scale of a giant wolf, he’s fur is thick and as white as fresh snow. He’s fangs sharp and claws able to rend through a knights armor with terrifying ease.
This particular hero should be a fast hero that relies on speed over damage and strength, so good attack speed and movemen tspeed would do good to it. He should be able to go toe-to-toe with almost any hero, but with masses and tanks he should be in need of help.
The heroes growth in attributes should heavily be based on agility, and strength should be only lightly upgraded, intelligence just as normally would on an agile hero.
Here come some abilities I’ve been turning up and down in my head:
“Strength of the pack”
Description: A wolf rarely travels alone, although it might seem like it. A lone wolf that is growling and snarling at you might seem like an easy opponent to take down; but once his pack has encircled it’s prey, you will feel the need to pray.
Function: A summoning spell that calls wolves to assist you.
Cooldown: I haven’t figured out what is decent.
Duration: Undecided.
Levels/upgrades: Lvl 1: summons one frost wolf
Lvl 2: summons one greater frost wolf
Lvl 3: summons two greater frost wolves
Lvl 4: summons three glacial wolves
“Northern Breath”
Description: The worst way to die in the cold climate, is when you get hypothermic; your body starts to harden, your veins are popping in the pressure of blood cells clumping together. Your heart beat slows down, and then you die. All that is left is a bloated, dismantled body beaten by snowstorms until all skin has been worn off to the bone.
Function: A cone formed breath attack that does minor damage and slows movement drastically.
Cooldown: 9 seconds.
Duration: 4 seconds.
Levels/upgrades: Lvl 1: cone deals 65 damage and slows movement by 17%
Lvl 2: cone deals 100 damage and slows movement by 29%
Lvl 3: cone deals 165 damage and slows movement by 41%
Lvl 4: cone deals 260 damage and slows movement by 53%
[NOTE] with this ability balancing duration and amount slown is critical!
“Unreal Endurance” (Aura)
Description: Without shivering in cold or fear Frostmane inspires all around him with his grim determination and endurance of elements. Every friendly soul that sees him as sturdy as a rock feels as if they gain some of his attributes of survival.
Cooldown: Passive.
Duration: Passive
Levels/upgrades: Lvl 1: gives 2 armor and 2% movespeed
Lvl 2: gives 4 armor and 4% movespeed
Lvl 3: gives 8 armor and 8% movespeed
Lvl 4: gives 12 armor and 12% movespeed
“Enhance senses” (Ultimate)
Description: Through a strange way of deep concentration the glacial wolves are able to cross the border of maximal senses, catching the smallest sent from unbelievable distances and enhancing their natural aggression to unbelievable reaches.
Cooldown: 1:45
Duration: 20 seconds
Levels/upgrades: Lvl 1: gives 20% attackspeed and movespeed
Lvl 2: gives 40% attackspeed and 30% movespeed
Lvl 3: gives 60% attackspeed and 40% movespeed + passively increases damage by 10%
Lvl 4: gives 80% attackspeed and 50% movespeed + passively increases damage by 20%
I wish for all kinds of feedback and advice; this is only a really rough example. So if possible crash this baseplan to a wall and make it better.

Firstefull thx Zan for visiting and helping me to support my own map great thx for this...
Now to your hero ... I think it would be better if the guy would not be a wolf then a wolf shaman... i think it would look greater and would fit better ... a shaman with a frozened wolf skin 8)
Now to your abilities ... Max lvl is [25] norm abilities should have [7] lvls and ulti [4]
Strength of the pack”
Description: A wolf rarely travels alone, although it might seem like it. A lone wolf that is growling and snarling at you might seem like an easy opponent to take down; but once his pack has encircled it’s prey, you will feel the need to pray.
Function: A summoning spell that calls wolves to assist you.
Cooldown: I haven’t figured out what is decent.
Duration: Undecided.
Levels/upgrades: Lvl 1: summons one frost wolf
Lvl 2: summons one greater frost wolf
Lvl 3: summons two greater frost wolves
Lvl 4: summons three glacial wolves
... Seems good to me although there are no summoning spells atm
But plz change lvl into [7] and post something about the strenght of the wolfes - for exsample glaciel wolves 31-40 Dmg / Speed avarage / 560 Hitpoints / Abilitie: Wolf Sense [evasion 10%] ... - something like that
“Northern Breath”
Description: The worst way to die in the cold climate, is when you get hypothermic; your body starts to harden, your veins are popping in the pressure of blood cells clumping together. Your heart beat slows down, and then you die. All that is left is a bloated, dismantled body beaten by snowstorms until all skin has been worn off to the bone.

Levels/upgrades: Lvl 1: cone deals 65 damage and slows movement by 17%
Lvl 2: cone deals 100 damage and slows movement by 29%
Lvl 3: cone deals 165 damage and slows movement by 41%
Lvl 4: cone deals 260 damage and slows movement by 53%
Also a good idea but change lvl also here into [7] and change the cooldown... 9 seconds are rly to low i would say something like 20 - 25 seconds
Change into [7] lvls and change the armor bonus its to high
if all guys in his near would get this armor bonus ... i would say change it into this [1]: 2 armor and 4 % movementspeed [2] 3 armor and 7 % movementspeed [3]: 4 armor and 10% [4]: 5 armor and 13% [5]: 6 armor and 16% [6]: 7 armor and 19 % [7]: 8 armor and 22%
...Also it would be better if the effect would just work for himself
“Enhance senses” (Ultimate)
Description: Through a strange way of deep concentration the glacial wolves are able to cross the border of maximal senses, catching the smallest sent from unbelievable distances and enhancing their natural aggression to unbelievable reaches.
Cooldown: 1:45
Duration: 20 seconds
Levels/upgrades: Lvl 1: gives 20% attackspeed and movespeed
Lvl 2: gives 40% attackspeed and 30% movespeed
Lvl 3: gives 60% attackspeed and 40% movespeed + passively increases damage by 10%
Lvl 4: gives 80% attackspeed and 50% movespeed + passively increases damage by 20%
I would change this abilitie cause i think he would be a great hero killer so i would change this abilitie into an "Nuke" - abilitie with high dmg and i think it would make him more stronger ... hope u can understand my suggestions and i ll do my best to make it original to ur ideas :P

First of all, hero fits like butter on bread in this map. Theme is excellent, and he sounds good. But yes he needs some tinkering. Personally I would like a wolf better, but if Pheo wants a wolf shaman then make it so.
Since he was supposed to rely on speed and attack instead of skills, change things abit. I'm talking:
Skill 1: This ones ok. Just balance it to 7 lvls.
Skill 2:
Change it from instant damage to damage over time. For example:
level 1 - 10 dmg/second
level 2 - 15 dmg/second
level 3 - 20 dmg/second
level 4 - 25 dmg/second
level 5 - 30 dmg/second
level 6 - 35 dmg/second
level 7 - 40 dmg/second
I realize that even at lvl 5 it deals only 160 damage (minus hero armor reduction), but it slows units extremely, and if it hits many units, it's very worth it. Also definitely increase cooldown. 14-18 second should be enough. 25 seconds would be too much.
Skill 3:
Initial armor bonus you suggested is too high if +12 armor and the movement speed bonus pheo suggested is too high I think. Chasing with a team under the effects of +22% move speed makes escape practically impossible, at least extremely hard. I mean, compare this to paladins Devotion Aura: It gives 1.5 armor at lvl 1, and it doesn't give anything else...In other words this should be weaker than paladins aura, because it also gives movement speed bonus.
Skill 4: This one fits well to the theme you were saying he should have: not damage skill, but speed and attack damage reliant.

The stats of the wolves are hard for me to say now, so if you will give me a headline of how much average heroes of each type have health dmg etc. and the creeps also?
And then your critical decision, if you indeed make it a shaman i would replace the unreal endurance with an ability called "Primal Form" which transforms him into a wolf for a set amount of time, the wolf form however would possess the unreal endurance thus granting him bonuses for being in wolf form
Re: Frostmaine [Glacial Wolf]

I have been considering the following changes:
“Strength of the pack”
Levels/upgrades:
Lvl 1: summons one frost wolf
Lvl 2: summons one greater frost wolf
Lvl 3: summons two greater frost wolves
Lvl 4: summons a glacial wolf
Lvl 5: summons two glacial wolves
Lvl 6: summons three glacial wolves
Lvl 7: summons four glacial wolves
(I will add the healths, damages and other precise matters later when I find out what is an average creep)
“Northern breath”
Cooldown: Raise to a 16 second, this will take tests to define well though.
Levels/upgrades: Lvl 1: 10dmg/second 7% slow
Lvl 2: 15dmg/second 14.5% slow
Lvl 3: 20dmg/second 22% slow
Lvl 4: 25dmg/second 29.5% slow
Lvl 5: 30dmg/second 37% slow
Lvl 6: 35dmg/second 45.5% slow
Lvl 7: 40dmg/second 53% slow
(If you truly make the hero a shaman the following ability will replace “unreal endurance”)
“Hunting scent”
Description: The Glacier Shaman lets his instincts take over, warping to the form of a Glacial Wolf, becoming part of nature and a hunter to match.
Function: A metamorphosis spell that transforms the shaman into a large pure white Glacial wolf.
Cooldown: 25 seconds.
Duration: 10 seconds.
Levels/upgrades: Lvl 1: Shaman in Wolf-form has 4 % movement speed
Lvl 2: Shaman in Wolf-form has 7 % movement speed
Lvl 3: Shaman in Wolf-form has 10 % movement speed
Lvl 4: Shaman in Wolf-form has 13 % movement speed and 5% chance for double damage
Lvl 5: Shaman in Wolf-form has 16 % movement speed and 7% chance for double damage
Lvl 6: Shaman in Wolf-form has 18 % movement speed and 10% chance for double damage
Lvl 7: Shaman in Wolf-form has 18 % movement speed and 15% chance for double damage
(If you truly make the hero a shaman the following ability will replace “Enhance senses”)
“Ancestral spirit” (ultimate, single target)
Description: The shaman calls for his guiding spirits to strike down his foes with the wrath of a feral wolf.
Function: A transparent soul-render wolf rushes to the target and smites him.(In function this is a ghostly-transparent wolf that leaves a small trail when it runs to his target and strikes it, vanishing after striking.)
Cooldown: 1:45
Duration: -
Levels/upgrades: Lvl 1: 350dmg
Lvl 2: 500dmg
Lvl 3: 650dmg
Lvl 4: 750dmg
Miniathnir (forgive me for my earlier mistake of writing Mithrandir here) helped me with the fine tuning of many abilities. Hope these changes are going to make your job a bit easier pheo
:)
Oh, and I will be pleased to have some more feedback, so we can make this hero a working one.

Ok people, this is a critical thing, i need you all to vote on whether to make frostmane a shaman or an alpha-wolf, so post your votes here, and i'll count them.

And to that, yes it was me, and i agree that looks cool, i have been working on the alchemist as soon as i saw the message, but as i asked miniathnirs opinion of the abilities he requested me not to post them yet, so we will give them further thought, they are coming though :)
