aber nun finde ich doch was nämlich über robert:
In 1987, Jimmy Page had him record The Only One, a track that that would appear on Jimmy's 1988 album, Outrider. This got Plant back into the swing and he formed a new band and recorded his most critically acclaimed solo effort, Now and Zen in 1988. Tall Cool One was an extremee success.

Any Led Zeppelin fanatic like myself knows that, for all the bands heaviness, Zep never strayed far from the folk and ol' rhythmn & blues that originally inspired them. Here is some evidence of that in the form of five covers recorded by The Honeydrippers. Five years after the death of John Bonham, Page and Plant reunited for half an albums worth of big-band with a swing-twist sounding material. Some of the other prominent musicians here include Brian Setzer, Jeff Beck, and Nile Rogers. So how did they do?

Also...das erste hat wohl nichts mit der Musikrichtung 'Swing' zu tun. Es bedeutet vermutlich eher, Robert hat (durch die Zusammenarbeit mit Jimmy) wieder neuen 'Schwung' bekommen ;-) etwas Neues zu machen. So meine Vermutung...
Beim zweiten allerdings könnte tatsächlich 'Swing' gemeint sein. Wenn ich es recht überlege, dann haben die Honeydripper-Sachen einen "Swing-Touch" :-)

Da ich Led Zeppelin-Musik sehr gerne mag, sammle ich alles, was unter dieser Band zustande kam bis hin zu Solo-Sachen. Besonders vermitteln Bootlegs etwas ganz besonderes!!
Leider kann ich mit der 'Swing-Phase' von Robert Plant nichts anfangen. Unter den 'Honeydrippers' entfernte sich Robert total von seinen Wurzeln den Rock'N Roll.
Umso mehr habe ich mich gefreut, als er sich Anfang der 90er seinem Ursprung zuwandte!!!

Kathrin, es gibt gute 'Swing'-Sachen, die ich gern höre. Vor allem fällt mir da Rick Astley ein, der Anfang der 80er einige Hits auf dieser Basis herausbrachte.
Hingegen kommen mir Robert's Sachen, speziell von 1981 so schwermütig und 'zähfließend' vor. Einige Stücke lassen sich nur schwer verdauen.

aus den 80 ern kenne ich gar kein swing. aber ich hab noch keinen swing kennengelernt der schwer verdaulich war.
eher beschwingt und wundervoll für die seele. mal heiter und ganz schnell aber auch ruhig und gefühlsvoll. jedoch nie kompliziert oder schwergängig.
bei jazz ist das natürlich ganz anders.
oder sprechen wir von was ganz anderem?
ist rick astley vergleichbar mit zb: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby...????(Swing aus den 30-40er Jahren)
Aber sehr interessant dass es Swing noch in den 80er gab. Das wusste ich gar nicht.

Like probably many people here, after many, many years of listening to Zep, I found myself in the following quandary. No other music gave me the same buzz as Zep, but I had listened to the albums, bootlegs etc so many times that I couldn't hear it with fresh ears any more. A very depressing situation. Then about 6 months ago I heard Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis. Had never listened to much jazz before but was instantly hooked. The interplay among the musicians and epic soloing was like the sweetest wine to my jaded palette. Since then I have collected hundreds of jazz albums, mostly from the 50s and 60's and have discovered how many great players and albums there were back then.
After this I recently came back to listening to Zep, and realised they are a jazz band. Totally. Maybe they sound, on the surface, like a rock band. But they play in the spirit of the jazz greats. Its all about the interplay, the excitement they get from playing off of each other.
So, if you are stuck in the position I was in, jaded from too much zep but nothing else gives you that buzz, try some jazz.

Special credit goes to JPJ and Bonzo.
Yeah, all the improv, and Bonzo's drumming style are all from jazz. Many people think Bonham was the first ever to do sixteenth note triplets on the bass drum, but he was only the first rock drummer to do it, as he brought it over from the jazz before him.

in a 1977 [note timeline, musically] Guitar Player interview, John Paul Jones is quoted: "I don't know what's happened to jazz. I guess they just started playing rock and roll."
John Paul Jones: "Everybody is listening and watching each other, and that keeps things really tight. Also, anyone could go anywhere musically, and we always knew we’d be followed. It was almost like a flock of birds, where one bird flies in a different direction and suddenly the whole flock changes direction."
jazz guitarist Scott Henderson: "It’s basically top-40 without the vocals and a certain saxophone sound instead. It kind of disturbs me that people even call it jazz. Just because there’s no singer, they call it jazz. I think Led Zeppelin was more jazz than that is. If you listen to Led Zeppelin live, they were more of a jazz band than anything you hear on the Wave. They were improvising, extending and jamming. I sort of feel they were the first fusion band. "
