    There's been some discussion about this on Blizzard's official rogue forum.

    First of all, a standard yellow dmg attack (sinister, backstab etc.) looks like this (if you have 25% crit chance on no "to hit" stuff):
    15% chance of the mob making a dodge, parry og block
    5% chance of you missing it
    25% chance of making a critical strike against it
    55% chance of a normal hit (the rest of the percentages to make it add up to 100%)

    Secondly: if you miss a target, or it blocks, parries or dodges, you get 49 of the energy used on the backstab returned, which means you only pay 11 energy for a miss.

    If you have +5% to hit (which is the maximum you can benefit from in yellow attacks, since they don't suffer an extra 19% miss chance because of dual wield), you will have a 5% increased chance to get a normal hit rather than the mob avoiding your attack or you missing it. This means that 5% more of your attacks will cost you 60 energy and only do that low dmg hits, we dagger rogues hate.

    If you do some heavy calculation, this will tell us, that dmg/energy is lower on our backstabs if we have "to hit" items or talents (which I myself have). Actually it will tell us the same with siniste strikes, but the differense of dmg/energy is very low, since crit chance on sinsiter strikes are so low compared to backstabs.

    IMO: The thing, that people forgetting when claiming that you should not have hit, but hug more crit stuff as a dagger rogue, is that about half our damage is white damage. And that damage will benefit from uptil a total of 24% to hit bonus. Also, as I've written elsewhere, a hit can become a crit, when we're fighting bosses. So get a s***load of hit items and uptil +10 to your primary weaponskill, then we're ready to do some bosskilling :)

    Atm in running 9-10 hit as sword rogue. Works brilliantly.. so atm im going for crit items..

    People tend to say that around 10% to hit items is optimal for MC and the start of BWL, if you have 5% from the combat talent.

    i have +10% on items only... so with combat adds i ahould have +15%.... ?

    Yea, and you "swing" table would look like this on a lvl 63 elite (boss):

    Yellow damage (SS, Evis etc.) if you have +5 to your sword skill from bombat talents and you have 25% crit chance:
    16.2% chance of the mob making a dodge, parry og block
    0% chance of you missing it
    25% chance of making a critical strike against it
    58.8% chance of a normal hit (the rest of the percentages to make it add up to 100%)

    White damage:
    16.2% chance of the mob making a dodge, parry og block
    8% chance of you missing it
    25% chance of making a critical strike against it
    40% chance of a glancing blow (which will do 85% of normal dmg, since you have +5 to your skill)
    10.8 of a regular hit
