Tips for a Visit to Paris
Hello fellow SR fans and website rovers! :D I have a favor to ask:

Other than the "usual suspects," what do you (residents and/or frequent visitors) recommend seeing (or shopping at; dining at) in Paris :?: :?: The hub and I will be taking a tour of Normandy, Brittany and the Loire Valley the beginning of September, and we have an extra day to ourselves in Paris. The hotel we will be staying at is the Sofitel Forum Rive Gauche, which, I believe, is near the Luxembourg Gardens.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :D

    THANKS :!: :!:

    Hey Lizski,

We stayed at Sofetel also, it was outside of the central city area, but you could take a taxi (that ripped us off royally).

Must see the Louvre. if you have a whole day, take the trip to Versailles unless you have to catch a plane.

Mon Martre up on the hill is fantastic place to see local artists outside, and grab some good food, nice view from up there also. Also take the tram up or down the hill to get up there. (unless you are bothered by heights).

Unless you are on a tour where you have an escort to go around the lines, don't stand in line for the Eiffel Tower, it is just as magnificent to see it from the ground looking up as to be up in it overlooking the city.

Eat sinfully rich food, everybody there does and never gets fat !

If you have not been to Notre Dame, yes it is a very beautiful church and a must to see, again, unless you have a guided tour you may have to wait in a long line to get in. (they don't like bare arms, so no tank tops).

Be careful not to exchange any money at Sofitel, because they will take about 30 percent in fees (I think that's what it was 2 years ago.)

Remember to visit the souvineer stands quickly because there are long lines to PAY for your special "finds"....I had to put them all back because often there was only one cashier and 12 people waiting to pay.

Don't forget (how can you) to try all the fine French wines too....

Oh, and I didn't know if you knew you can get great deals on Clinique cosmetics there.

Hey, bring me back a case of Cointreau. (just kidding).

And don't be surprised that the Mona Lisa painting is smaller than you always imagined it would be.

    Love,
    Lin xxx
    Bon Voyage ma ami.

Paris is the place to go for shopping!
    Hi Liz!

Have a fun time in France when you go! I've never been there but I'd love to go just for the shopping! My sister’s girlfriend went then last year and she said the shopping is fabulous! All that chic & cool French clothing, shoes, beauty products, perfumes and tasty cheese, wine, chocolates & patisseries. Oh I’d lose a fortune if I were going! I love to SHOP and just like you, I love the shoes!!! You can never have enough!!!! I just hope you have enough time to check out a few shops and get some nice things.

And it will be hard to pick out what you want to do in Paris since you only have one day. There is so much to see. I’d most likely pick to see the Louvre and maybe check out the Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower and drive down the Champs Elysées. Wow wish I was going. Well whatever you do you have a great time! Enjoy!!! :D

Here's a link I found that has some good information on the shopping if you want to check out.-------> http://www.timeout.com/paris/shops/
