Thanks Paul. I'm sorry because of italian language. My answer were not tecnic but just about the common practice in our country to use material from military vehicles or aircraft building house.

hi there, sorry, i'll write in english from now on.

about the armour-plated glass there is a photo on the posting called "B24 Big Parts from Italy !!!" dated 17 06 2007 which looks familiar. The glass in this picture also looks very thick and opaque, but bigger than my window i think. Which part is that? Was it originally opaque? i.e. it was not a "window" but a "skylight"? was it part of the OUTER turret glass casing? it looks "internal".

well, here's another clue, from the same aircraft as the armour-plated glass:

    http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/1738/image006axr.jpg

It says "BOEING –H P V 15-1779" so we can say it is from a B-17 I think, though I'd still be interested to know which part the glass came from.

could the glass be from the rear gunners area on a B17?

hi peter, thanks, yes that is what I am beginning to assume, it is difficult to get pictures of individual parts inside the rear gun but it looks familiar to similar pieces inside a liberator turret, here on this site somewhere.

To my knowledge the B29 never saw action in Italy. It came to late for that.

    (correction)
Witch of course does not rule out that it's not from that bomber. Some pieces of aircraft ended up al over the globe.

i think the B29 was around a fair while before the war in Europe ended, but i realise they didnt take part. i was thinking it could have been an accident site from after the war?. i assume B29s were based in Italy after 1945?
