Hi all,
Several days ago a guy who lives in my village told me that he had something for my WWII collection. I went over to his house and he gave me an airplane part. He told me that his grandfather took it from the crash site of a bomber, during the war.
The location he described matches one of a Halifax bomber.
I do not know what the part actually is. It's an aluminium plate which looks like some sort of thin hatch.
There are several stamps, including a number.
I once heard that such serialnumber can tell you what type of plane it belongs to and also mentions which section.
This might help to ID the part.
(pictures will follow ASAP).
This is the serial number:
57417 H71 (not sure about the H)
I hope someone is able to help.
Thanks, Tom

Hi Tom,
this part number (not serial number) indicated a part of a Halifax and comes from the power plant or fuel tanks (Letter "H").
A photo of this part with the part number and stamps are on interest ;)
Regards
Nils

Thank you Nils!
My brother took some pictures of the part. I am sorry to post them so large.
I do not have pictures of the stamps (yet)
Here they are:
Please let me know what you think.
Thanks, Tom

Hey guys,
Is anyone able to tell where this part was located exactly.
I don´t see it in any Halifax pictures...
It would be great if I had a positive identification on this part.
Thanks in advance,
Tom
P.s. This part belonged to Halifax MZ376.
Here is another thread about this plane, started by a friend of mine

If I was to guess I would think it might be something to do with engine accessory cowling but wth it being flat I am not sure?

Thank you, Lancasterman.
Well, it is not completely flat, it´s a bit curved...
I guess it's some kind of plate covering the engine area.
If anyone has more info, please let me know!
Thanks, Tom
