it´s not from B-17 !
It´s a cover from reduction gear of a german DB601 engine.

One man send me yesterday very bad copy of photo where is visible tail part of B-17 what he found. later with mail he send this two pictures, And I just wanted to confirm that is B-17. It never crossed my mind that this could be part of another plane.
Anyway I must go to this crash site because this part and part from B-17 he found in circle from 5 meters.

i would say that is definitely the framework of a B17 tail turret. the early type, the later cheyenne (pumpkin) turrets were different.
