    Found this piece yesterday in the impact crater of the same Halifax as the other topic. Any ideas on this one?

    Sounds like ceramic when you tab on it. At closer look fibers can be clearly seen. It's no bakelite for sure.

    that looks very much like a brake shoe. if it is, the fibre material is most likely asbestos.

    Yes, it´s a brake shoe. Found two of this on a Halifax crash site too.
    Please keep off about the asbestos :roll:

    Yes Roy youre right! its a brake plate, i found exact the same,
    but the were used in more types of A/C.

    here a pic from a plate from a whitley,
    a little dif but almost id.
    ill will post a pic soon of my Halifax plate.

    Be really careful and seal that brake pad/plate that you found in a bag. If it is the nasty A******* you have to take precautions. If it is alsmost intact a heavy coat of paint on it will seal it so that that it doesnt become airborne!!

    But don't worry about the asbestos. I know how dangerous it can be. As long as you're not gonna saw it or anything like that were dust is being produced it can't do any harm.
