Hi to everyone!
It's been a while since I last posted here. But recently I saw an interesting aircraft part, that was raised from sea more than 10 years ago. I would like to learn more about it. What kind of aircraft does it belong to? Thanks alot for your help!

Hi Kurtl,
this looks more like a horizontal stabilizer rather than the vertical tail rudder.
could you guess its height?
Cheers
Roy

Is it metal or wood? Almost looks like Mosquito?

I guess the height over all for about 1 meter. It is all made of metal, mostly of aluminium and some rusty iron I guess. It interesting that there is just one side coverd with sheet metal, the other is missing and was made of some fabric maybe. I could not determine that.
For me it can be a rudder as well as an vertical stabilize. All ribs are curved in the same way at both sides. Not like the profil of an airplane wing. The drawing comes close but on the part there is no space for a trim tab. The number of the ribs is not identical either. Maybe Nils have a drawing of the rudder of the Mosquito too?
Thanks alot for your help!

one metre? it looks bigger. i wondered about the lack of trim tab as well. the reason i thought it might be a horizontal stabiliser was that it look like it would end before it met the fuselage. there is a cutout at the end, normally not on seen on the rudder

Here there is another picture that shows the part from the other side. The letters on it are of new age and probably have nothing to do with the origin of the part.
I did not thought about this when I saw the part in real. But could it be that it's just the tip of the vertical stabilizer of the Mosquito?

Roy, thanks for that drawing. According that it can't be the rudder of the Mosquito. The arrangement of the alclad ribs is not identical. But it is so for the vertical stabilizer! If the part just broke right after rib number 8 (counted from tip to the inside)than the whole trim tap area would be missing and the stabilizer would be identical to the drawings. Do you agree?
Let's find out if there were any Mosquito losses in the area around Unije!

Here is a drawing from the Mossie rudder.
On Kurtl´s rudder is below no trim rudder to see.
I´m not sure if all types of Mosquito has had a trim rudder

Thanks for the comparisson with the drawing. But look on the horn (mass balance) it looks very different I guess. And the arrangement of the ribs is not identical.

Hi all.
Know you come to mention it Paul with the amount of ribs exposed there has to be some part numbers and stamps visable.

Kurtl,
i think you could be right about this part being broken or cut. it would explain why its so short and why the trim tab is missing.
i assume you didnt get a chance to look closely for part numbers.?
Roy
