Inspired partly by metalamazon's recent thread and partly by having not a lot better to do, I decided at some point last year to map out the band members that the power metal community in Europe have borrowed from each other. It's a little out of date now, but I thought I'd share it.
Of course, that diagram counts "guest appearances" as links as well as actually being in the bands. Interestingly enough I couldn't find any links from Nightwish to the main tree at all - has anyone got any ideas?

Nightwish's Marco Hietala made backing vocals for at least two Stratovarius albums :)
You could link Mike Terrana to a bunch of other bands too ;)
No need to mention Ayreon, that would f**k up the whole thing :lol:

you forgot some bands of course like stormwitch, heavens gate, scanner, sinner, rhapsody and more. and from the big four of germany, grave digger, running wild, rage and helloween you put just helloween.

The focus of the diagram was to connect the majority of bands on my hard drive at the time, and most of the connections were confirmed using www.metal-archives.com - but if I have a lot of time to waste again, I'll definitely look into expanding it!

Maybe mind-mapping software can help, if you can put objects and define links between them.
Maybe FreeMind? (http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page) Did a Google Search, haven't tried the software myself. I think I will, though, they have a Mac version. ;)
