    Sean,

the first two digits "96" indicated the aircraft types P-47N, B-25C and B-25G

    Thanks
Thanks Nils. Looks like we have found a mixed wreckage trail. The bits we have found have the following codes:

    L983471A (think this is mosquito)

    961031A (P-47 as discussed)

    k20286 (presently unidentified)

    k20286 -11x6p (possibly Beaufighter?)

The photograph of the part marked 961031A has two inspection stamps to the right of the number. The first is a letter N in a circle. This was used as a general acceptance stamp by the Air Ministry. The second is unreadable but is probably the contractor.

That means the part was made in the UK to a British specification.

Interesting photos Sean. The brake unit item is also used on Curtis Hawk 75/Mohawks, I found one in Wiltshire. That must be the last label left on high ground in the UK! Bits of the P47 were again unfortunately on ebay, although accompanied by an actual photo of the aircraft. I will try and upload it when I work out how, then you can post it to. The pilot was Peter Quincy by the way.

    Hope this works, Ian

    Photo etc.
    Hi Ian,

yes, those magpies love a label!

I linked to this photo from the blog:

Interesting comments on identification. Anyone care to clear up the identity of the plane for me? So far that's one for ,and one against the P47
