    Dear Members,




    I am searching for a registration of a F4U-1 Corsair who was crashed during a mission over Rabaul,New Britain,New Guinea on January 20,1944.
    The wreckage of the plane were found through workmen they were laying a pipeline in the Pajaro River in north Monterey County,CA.
    The pilot of the was Maj.Marion R.McCown Jr,. US Marine Corps, the pilot and plane were stationed by VMF-321.
    I hope that anyone of you can help me to find the registration.

    i dont know if any of our members can answer your question but it might be useful to you if you also post this on a wellknown American site. army airforce.com

    you say the plane was lost in New Guinea but found in CA.? California?
    how is that possible, or have i misunderstood?
