First a greeting to all people of this forum.
We are a research association in Salerno, Italy. We search and collect memorials about Salerno's landing in 9 sept. 1943. Recently we found a USA airplane crash site about 3-5 km south\east Salerno tiown. Do you can help us to identify airplane and his number? Please, if someone can help will be very appreciated.

Hi Salerno1943,
welcome to our API-Board !
I will show here some parts I can indentify:
"ALCOA" = Alumnimium Corporation of America
#1 Standard Hose clamp with notice of diameter
#2 This part should be made of brass and should be from oxygen equipment
#3 smaller fastener from the flak vest.
see: http://www.iphpbb.com/board/ftopic-81805422nx79380-25-15.html
Part number 33D5233 = The letter "D" is the indicator for cowling parts
This is a part from Browning .50 Caliber Machine Gun
see here: http://www.iphpbb.com/board/ftopic-81805422nx79380-809.html
Hose Clamp
Case from cockpit lamp
Valve cover:
This ring looks like as a ring from fuel tank (the next photo show a similar part from Wellington IV fuel tank case)
This cartridges are exploded because of fire / flames. The percussion cup should be missing. A indicator for fire on the aircraft, or fire after the crash.
--> PLEASE NOTICE: THE AMMUNITION CAN BE A TYPE OF TRACER !!!
If you check the date of manufacturing on the cartridges, this can help to research the year of crash !
Regards
Nils
PS. Do you have details about the crew / aircraft ?

this part should be from water pump
I´m to fear that the parts you show here, are not enough to can name the type of aircraft. But I think it´s a B-17 or B-24
(the part number 33D5226, as example, was fixed also on B-17´s)
Regards
Nils

Many thanks for your precious help. Please, if you have other informations send me. The bullets are printed 1942. A eyewitness inform us that crew jump with parachute before crash.
The airplane crashed in 1942 or 1943. Eyewitness remember august\september 1943.
I'm sure the airplane is not a B-25 but a B-17. For these reasons:
1) Fragments marked BOEING
2) The valve cover that is of a Wright engine R 1820 and not R 2600
3) The same fragment that came from a B-17G http://www.iphpbb.com/board/ftopic-81805422nx79380-313.html
4) The plate about Shielded Ignition have printed STUDEBAKER. The Studebaker Corporation in South Bend, Indiana, made many of the Wright Cyclone engines used in the B-17.
5) Browning machine gun AN.M2 plate http://www.iphpbb.com/board/ftopic-81805422nx79380-809.html This machine gun is more common on B-17 that on B-25.
6) The bomb shackle is in list of B-17 parts. USAAF, 33D5233, Link Assembly - Bomb Shackle, 04/26/33 http://www.nasm.si.edu/research/arch/findaids/waco/waco_sec_48.html

Hi SALERNO1943
i if all these parts came from one crash site then it has to be a B17 you have found.
this is a needle bearing. i have a similar one from a merlin engined P51B of the 355th FG.
i think it fitted on the prop shaft. mine was damaged in the crash
its possible your one had the same function on the Wright R 1820

Roy
