Interview by Michael Kiske's Official Fanclub
Here is the interview with Michael Kiske talking about the second album of Place Vendōme titled: Streets Of Fire scheduled for February 20th by Frontiers Records, touring and also about the next Kiske album.

Fanclub: What about the new Place Vendome video clip? Did you enjoy with the other guys?

Michael Kiske: Never met the other guys apart from Uwe Reitenauer (guitarist) and talk by Email and telephone with Dennis (Ward).

It wasn't possible to get us all together for the video, so it ended up being only with me.

Fanclub: What are your feelings about the new album? and didn´t they ask you to write some song for Place Vendome 2?

Michael: I think it is even more A.O.R. When Serafino sent me the songs one by one as demos, I sometimes secretly thought: OK, nice tune, painless and sweet, but it could also be a bit better. But after I did the vocals and Dennis Ward produced it in his own way with his guys, that impression changed and I am always surprised at how good it actually turns out in the end!

The release is in February (20th).

I need my own songs for my own next Kiske-Album; so I has no songs to spare.

Fanclub: Is Place Vendome still just a project of some musicans or will it be in future a band-like thing with touring etc.?

Michael: I am not looking for a band besides my own; got a very good one, so Place Vendome is just a cool project.

Fanclub: On the PIDW album you gave a lot importance to the vocals. Do you want to continue with that on your next album? The "mythical direction" is more for the music than the vocals?

Michael: The old material is just the way it is; new stuff will probably be rather different, but I think there will also be some more mystical (classical-sound) elements on the next one.

But it is always difficult to say something about an album that mainly still has to be written.

Fanclub: On PIDW you remade two old songs, "You Always Walk Alone" and "A Little Time", that you wrote and recorded on a demo tape with your school band. Then played them on the "Keepers" albums, but when did you write "We Got The Right"?

Michael: "We Got The Right" was also written before my Helloween days, but it changed a lot for the Keepers recordings; like it should, being in a new band.

Fanclub: Could you imagine to record again some of your older songs in a new “dress"? On Instant Clarity and Supared you have a lot of rocking song which maybe will also sound great in an acoustic way? (Maybe as Bonus-Tracks)?

Michael: I COULD do anthing, but I think Past In Different Ways was a one-off; I better write new material, and also new acoustics in the future.

Maybe I do a full Elvis-acoustic-album one day if a label is interested; I am sure this will be good. Elvis is in my heart, you know...

    Avantasia

Fanclub: For your upcoming solo-CD… Do you have already some song titles for us? And when it´s planned to be released?

Michael: All too early yet; I hope to finish it 2009.

Fanclub: Do you usually record songs in your studio that don't use on the albums? Or do you only enter the studio to record the songs for albums?

    Michael: The second.

It's rare that a song I record in the studio doesn't make it on the album; only if it turns out to be not as good as I thought.

Fanclub: Are the problems with Frontiers gone?

Michael: All good now; they let me do MY thing.

Fanclub: And what about touring in 2009? Did you ever think about to make little gigs in music-pubs? In Germany, there are a lot of possibilities to do this – just you and your guitar J.

    Michael: All still too early.

This will definitely be my first move; I got to get myself into it slowly.

Fanclub: The two Elvis songs you recorded on your last albums were composed by him around '69. You said that your favorite "era" was '69-'70 but why did you decided to record these two not very well known songs instead of Elvis classics like "In The Ghetto", "Heartbreak Hotel", "Love Me Tender", "Hound Dog", etc?

Michael: Because I like them better; I don't care about hits, I record the ones a like best.

Fanclub: Also about Elvis, I've heard you collect Elvis albums. Do you like the non-official stuff like "Hawaii Benefit Show '61 DVD" or "Aloha From Hawaii". Do you collect this kind of stuff?

Michael: I especially like this stuff; on the Follow That Dream Label you can collect some real pearls.

Fanclub: What Cds and books will you recommend to present on this holidays?

Michael: The last 4 OASIS CDs ("Dig Out Your Soul", "Don't Believe The Truth", "Heathen Chemistry" and "Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants"), the Singles-CD by Travis, Maria Mena - Cause & Effect...

Bookwise: - Mittler zwischen Hirn und Händen (only in German).

Fanclub: Thanx a lot for this interview. The Fanclub wishes you all the best for 2009 in music and in life.

    Michael: Thanx!
