    Discussion on Character Distribution...
I'm just wanting to float some ideas here, not cause any problems, please let me know what you think...

    ---

Currently we have one _big_ guild in Stardust and a number of smaller guilds, but for the last month or so Stardust has been very quiet as far as chatting is concerned. I've noticed this, so have Alu, Lisa & others...

I think we should try to use Stardust as the guild for most active characters (I know when questing heavily some people have no character that is particularly active). We have enough room for everyone to have at least one char in Stardust for 'historical' reasons, and still have one or two (or more) more active characters.

If people realise they are not playing a char very much for any reason then swap guilds to have more people around for chatting and the social side of things.

This wouldn't affect parties at all, as during parties we use party chat so being in same guild is not important.

I'd happily move Bruce to another guild for more conversation, but it seems to me that it makes more sense to use the biggest guild for the most used characters. I think we sohuld be using the guild system in the game to promote communication, but at the moment, despite having 40 guildmates Stardust has regularly seemed all but empty...

I'd be interested to know what people not on skype - Manah, Nali? - think of this, but for me over the last couple of months the social side of the game has gone somewhat flat, mostly due to the fact that it is rare there are more than 1 or 2 people online in out largest guild at once - and I know that more of us _are_ online... just not in a position where it is easy for us to talk to each other :(

I've had someone comment on guildchat -

'seems stardust is really quiet these days'

Let's try to find some way to bring social part of gaming forward again perhaps?

Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for any comments :)

I agreed with that, I missed our guild chats and I do hope we can have more active chats in Stardust again. I usually logged in Lissa or stay in Skype during evening time and see if anyone there and with other chars after most of people go sleep :)

I'm afraid I don't have what you call 'active chars'.... I play whatever I feel like, often 3-4 chars per day, different ones every day (and you know how many I have). And I don't really want to put them in Stardust for 1 hour or even less (looking for someone who can invite would take too much of my playtime anyway X_x).
So I don't really know what I can do about it - the chars that come closest to 'active' are already in Stardust (except Manah, she wants to stay in her guild^^)

Well, my most active chars are my pala (in VU), spear crusi (already Stardust) and my new gunni, who is now in Crumbles. Wouldn't mind moving her to the main guild.

I'm not suggesting changing chars on a day by day basis, just that it would be nice if there would be at least some chance of seeing some (non-specific, anybody at all sometimes ^^) people in the main guild chat. I have frequently been the only person there for hours. Which makes me wonder why I am in guild, and I don't like feeling like that...

I don't think people should change play styles - but if those of us with character we play more put them more in Stardust (not completely - I fully understand having chars in quiet places when you don't feel like chatting) then we have a situation where we can communicate together a bit more, and better. For instance if someone was looking for a party they could fire up their Stardust character and have a reasonable chance of at least finding someone else to ask if they know of anything going on... (Quite possibly the people/person on Stardust guild chat might not be in the party, but might know who was talking earlier....). Same goes for the 'does anyone have 20 monster-bits for quest I'm doing?' kind of questions too... It just seems strange to me to be playing a multi-player game in a a big guild of nice people and still not seeing anyone sometimes for days... At the moment skype does this in a limited way for some of us, but that leaves a number of people out of the loop, and I think we should use the game's guild system for our mutual benefit in this :)

Anyway, I wrote this now because I thought it something good to think about, and because we have several new people interested in being in an active friendly guild.

Also (and maybe a little selfishly, sorry about this if you think it so) I'm about to go on a short holiday, so figured I could open this discussion now, and then find out what other people think when I get back next week :) - I don't want to make anyone change how they play, but wonder if we can find a slightly more cohesive social order as a whole : I feel that the dilution of players between characters and guilds is potentially problematic, and that there is no reason that is should be really.

Some people like to spread themselves wide, some not so much - but when everyone spreads out so much gaps start to appear and I'm not sure that is for the better in the long term, so I'm bringing it up now rather than maybe waiting too long. I think we have been spread wider by the server merge, without really realising it, and think we should try to decide what (if anything) we should do about this.

Thanks for listening, and extra thanks to everyone for everyone who replies with their thoughts and ideas.

I don't even know myself which char I'm going to play today, so I am NOT playing some chars more than others. If the stardust char is not the one I want to play, I don't. And you know how many chars I have. Sorry, but I really don't know what I can do without changing my playing style completely.

I must say that I agree with Bruce. The reason that I left with Alucrd is mainly because I too often was the only one online in the guild.

As Bruce specificly says, he does not want you to change you're playing style, but wants us to be more like a guild.

In my opinion, maybe it is because of all the sub-guilds.. Maybe people should choose for only 1 guild, or be guildless..

    Just an idea..

    Greetings,
    Alu

Whether you're guildless or in a subguild doesn't really matter, you can't chat with the main guild anyway...

Alucrd wrote: As Bruce specificly says, he does not want you to change you're playing style, but wants us to be more like a guild.
If my playing style is playing 10 different chars in 2 hours, how am I supposed to do what he wants? I haven't heard any suggestions from him what can be done about this situation, it's just "I want more chat, but you have to find a solution". And it makes me feel like he's trying to blame someone else for it.

If I decide to play a char that's in stardust, I'll do it and chat with you then. But I won't just sit around and do nothing just so people have someone to talk to, when I actually want to do something else. Wilde was online for quite a long time, now I'm playing other chars that aren't in stardust. If it's not my decision which char I can play, I probably shouldn't be in any guild at all...

EDIT: Tim and Alu, you both have a main char. But some of us don't. That is what I like about this guild - that I don't have to make one of my chars more important than the others, or 'have to' play them more often. But that's what you are asking for. You'd like everyone to have one or two 'main' or 'more important' chars. And that would mean changing playing style at least for me (and Sigi as far as I've heard).

I must agree with Tim that is is quiet in guild chat lately. The reason might be: merge gave us lots of new chars and the wish to level them. This is normal, but leaves us with a problem, namely how to level them AND keep up guild communication.

I also agree that we must improve communication again.

1st résumé/survey(just gathered ideas and arguments for making it easier to follow):

    The question is:
How can we get more communication to the Stardust guild-chat?

    Reasons:
"for me over the last couple of months the social side of the game has gone somewhat flat, mostly due to the fact that it is rare there are more than 1 or 2 people online in out largest guild at once"
    "I missed our guild chats"
"would be nice if there would be at least some chance of seeing some people in the main guild chat"
"makes me wonder why I am in guild"
"I left mainly because I too often was the only one online in the guild"
"because we have several new people interested in being in an active friendly guild"

    Problems:
    1. some got main chars and play them for weeks, others play many different chars and change even during daytime
    2. some like to chat a lot and are looking for chatmates while others often prefer to stay alone and use sub-guild-chars for that
    3. the organisation/history of Stardust-guilds will have to be changed
    4. some want to stay in their actual guild because of sentimental reasons
    5. some people like to spread themselves wide, some not so much
    6. Stardust's biggest advantage is it's biggest disadvantage: everyone is accepted as he is - we don't force each other to change

    Proposals:
"I think we should try to use Stardust as the guild for most active characters" (difficult, see "Problems")
"it makes more sense to use the biggest guild for the most used characters" (difficult, see "Problems")
"If people realise they are not playing a char very much for any reason then swap guilds" (difficult, see "Problems")
"but if those of us with character we play more put them more in Stardust" (difficult, see "Problems")
"Maybe people should choose for only 1 guild, or be guildless" (difficult, see "Problems")

I got 6 accounts and my kind of playing is more a char-hopping then main-char-leveling during weeks (as Manah said).
Most of my chars are spread in guilds for historical reasons.
I sometimes (last weeks most time for RL-reasons) like to stay calm and solo without chatting

But I like our guild and the people and I want all to feel good. For that and if it might help I would agree to change some of my less played chars from Stardust to a sub-guild and put some of the more active chars into Stardust. Or just let spare places for other chars someone wants to bring in.

Just to say short as I'm middle of packing for holiday,,,

I _don't_ want people to change styles : I know I am towards one end of playing styles and some of you are towards the other end. But I think we could use the guild system more effectively for all...

These are just suggestions not orders, but written short due to time and for clarity :)

1 : Those who have 'most used' characters try to keep them in main guild.

2 : Those without regular chars maybe put more social chars - those that level best in parties, for instance - in main guild. Then if they are looking for someone for a quick party they have best chance of finding someone else active.

3 : Everyone - when feeling social, especially perhaps on weekends when expect many people on during day - could when swapping chars around just pop into their main guild char and say 'Hi - if anyone is looking for me I'm probably playing X this afternoon'. Even if the person/people online in guild at that time are not interested in prty or talking much, if someone else comes on later and wonders where the other player is then information can be passed around. And if - like everybody does a varying amount of the time - you want peace then simply don't say anything :)

Often recently when I am playing Bruce waiting for something to happen and nothing can happen for literally days recently... The only time I see other people is when they are swapping equipment and they are gone before I notice (curse the game for only telling you when guildmates log out, not when they log in :) ), and because the guild is often all but empty people seem to much less often 'pop in for a chat' during a break in playing other chars.

I have often used the 'away message' on my vendor (though Bryan doesn't vend that much, which explains why my kafra is so full I guess :D ) to tell people who to pm if they want to talk to me.

There just seems to be a drift apart and a fragmentation at the moment, and this is at a time where there are some new to many of us, but experienced and interesting people looking to join a friendly, active, guild.

Active does not have to mean we have lots of events and WoE or MVP or whatever. It really, I think, means that there are people apparently around giving some life to the social side of the game. If we make the Stardust Guild Chat as best we can an important part of this activity (note, just a part - not a whole, not even a majority) as I feel it used to be then I think that benefits us all.

Historically (RL now) a guild was some place that people who worked in the same business would come together to meet up and talk, both socially and to plan things for their businesses... If you had no business to talk about and felt less social, then you might not turn up for some time, but you would still be welcome when you did. We seem to have lost that at the moment from Stardust, there is little feeling of being welcome when you are alone all day...

As a side note I think Thursday parties have really helped - have a good one this Thursday, I'll be back next week - but I'm just looking for ways to not lose that momentum. I've seen social groups in other parts of life stagnate and fade away, and really don't want to see that happen to us all...

(I meant this to be short, but as you must all know by now I am not so good at short...especially about things I care about. I promise though to shut up till next week now as I'm away!)
