I think they are straps for holding something down. Similar are used for restraining batteries. A guy was selling pieces of this aircraft on ebay a few years ago. I complained that this could be seen seen as bad taste, making a personal profit out of other's sacrifice but got such a torrent of abuse back I let it lie.

Hello Sean, the guy selling pieces listed a couple of brass fittings and I think a piece of engine casing, he wasn't the one selling models cast from wreckage. He was a miltaria dealer and suggested that if I was so upset I should buy them and look after them myself. (I didn't) Having followed your blog I see you've visited Mrs Everard-Steenkamp's Spit in the Wyre Forest. There is an interesting link to her story here: http://samilitaryhistory.org/vol035ss.html . A very talented woman. My aunt found the site back in the late seventies.

Thanks Ian,
Interesting stuff, I'm looking into where all the bits went, it's a sad story as ever...
I've added that link to my blog entry...

I am not sure what the parts are? I know a fair bit about Lancasters but that part is a mystery. There are some large sections in the wreckage site. I can pick oout several pieces of engine cowling as well as leading edge complete with Cable cutter attachment.

They are not controls - they are the carrying/reinforcing frames from standard RAF accumulators, probably for the aicraft's radio equipment.
