    <refills his glass>
    <cough>

Greetings, ashari and hiho to you, Sagon followers.
You might wonder why I am here, and I will of course explain it all in just a second.

<takes a small sip from his glass and smiles>

    A good year, indeed.

Well, I have been a little curious about this guild, clan, order or whatever you prefer to call it ever since I heard from my bloodbrother that it was created. That is why I am sneaking around reading your papers here.

<he luaghs at his own stupidity for a second before his face returns to stone again, and then takes another sip>

Finally I realize that something is missing in this place, and I just had to ask a question. Do you have any roleplayers in this guild?
I remember in the last order I was in (Order of Chivalry, under the command of our warlord, Zaoreth Orcblade), which was entirely based on roleplaying, that we had alot of interresting threads for the community on the board we used. Since I dont enjoy the tibia.com roleplaying forum anymore I was thinking that if you have many roleplayers, or members interrested in roleplaying, perhaps you should start some kind of a roleplaying story here?

I respect what you are doing here, and with somewhat of roleplaying involved the circle might end up complete some day <smiles>

Of course this is just a suggestion from an old orderknight with too many years on his neck, so if you ignore me I can live with that.

Good luck with everything, and farewell for now.

Greetings Elof, and thanks for the suggestions. Nice to see that you put some time and interest on us.
We are not a strict roleplaying guild, and do not require that you must be a good roleplayer to join. However we require some knowledge about roleplaying, and that you should understand it, and its a big plus if you can roleplay.
In other words: We are not a roleplaying guild, but most of our members are much better roleplayers than the average in Tibia. We have some good roleplayers, and many who got the interest.
Some of us are really good, but sometimes we "relax" too if you know what I mean.
We do have a roleplay-story (The Legend of Sagon). We are working on a homepage too, and when its done, the story will be loaded up there.
We also have the story written down in books in our guildhall in Stonehome, so if you wish to read it, just ask your friend Natures Lord to let you in for a while.
We cant say how our roleplaying will develop in the future.
Feel free to contact me ingame if you have further questions or if you dont think I answered your questions here.
Of course you can ask here in this thread too.

    Take care!

    Kariuz

    Ah, yes..

    As I expected <smiles>.

I will be waiting for the Sagon story, Kariuz, dont rest or sleep until the task is done! <grin>

So if I undertood you correct, you dont have any.. what to call them.. "join-in" stories (someone starts a story, and then other writers continue on it). Its a great way of learning and understanding roleplaying. you need patience, but its extremely entertaining. I got to know many of my friends through stories like that.

A big thank you for your reply, and I hope to meet you all ingame some time <I sneak around the Sagon hall from time to time>

Take care and enjoy whatever you are doing at the moment.

    Kariuz - 06.12.2004, 13:26

Thats right, no join-in stories, but as I said, a rp-story about yourself is a very very positive thing to have in your application.
And feel welcome to visit our guildhall as often as you want, and the sea around it contains the finest fishes in the world, so dont forget to bring your rod!

I believe I have my story somewhere around here.. hm.. <scratches his head> I'll find it some day.

I would never let my rod leave my backpack, it is one of the things I treasure the most <smiles>

I will drop by the hall from time to time, and perhaps when I get to know you all, I might think about that application you mentioned. (As I understand you do not look for members at the moment, anyway).

Im glad we had this.. conversation, and I hope it will not be our last.

    Farewell for now.

Ah, brother, nice to see you again.

It would be to much of an honour to start such a thread here. The choice is up to you, but let me add that if you would start such a thread here, I would defenitly join you <smiles>

Greetings to you again, my known and unknown friends.
I am currently working on a beginning for a potential adventure, so I ask you all to stay tuned <smiles>

While waiting (and this is mostly for the ones interrested in roleplay, but still not extremely experienced) I have something short to read, if you feel you want to understand more about the complex of roleplaying.

What is roleplaying? It’s the art of taking on the personality of someone that is different from you. It is very similar to acting or writing. The biggest difference is that it involves interacting with other people without the benefit of a script or an outlined plot that you already know the ending of.

The most difficult thing to understand about roleplaying is that you only get out of it what you put into it. You can’t just come into a room and sit in a corner and expect the others there to pull you into their RPing just out of the blue. Many people accuse Rpers of being snobbish or elitist because they don’t go out of their way to include everyone they run across. The simple fact of the matter is, most Rpers get very involved in their characters and the existing plots that they are participating in, and they never think about trying to drag in people they don’t know. Look at it this way...if you and some friends are standing around talking you usually won't try to pull nearby strangers into the conversation. If you want to be involved with a group of Rpers, you have to actively involve yourself. But do so with politeness and consideration.

The trick to being a successful Rper is to have interesting characters. If your character has nothing of interest to say, then people won’t interact with you. It’s important to work out a full history and personality for your character, and to stick to it when interacting with others. It’s also important to not have a perfect character, or a ridiculously powerful character. Such characters will rapidly wear on the nerves of the other Rpers you try to interact with.

The most important thing about Rping is to remember that everyone involved is in it for fun. Be polite, be considerate of the players behind the characters you interact with, and enjoy yourself. If you aren’t having fun, then you need to change something, either your character or the group of people you interact with. There are some general guidelines you can go by to try and ensure a pleasant experience is had by all...

    To be continued..

    Continued..

Role Playing Etiquette - By Thranduil Graywolf of Tel'Mithrim

Role-playing can be both fun and frustrating. These are some general rules of thumb that help cut down the frustration.

This really shouldn’t need saying, but it seems like one of the more common problems...stay In Character (IC) at all times. Do not drop Out Of Character (OOC) unless you are in a private conversation out of sight from others (ICQ would be best, but if that isn’t an option use an empty room). If you absolutely must say something OOC in the presence of people who are IC, then enclose the OOC comment in parenthesis.
Never use OOC information IC in any way. The best example I can give is...just because you can see someone’s name hanging over their head in the game, your character wouldn’t know that character’s name unless someone had told you in-game.

Never assume someone will react in a certain way just because you think they should. Always give others the chance to react in their own way, and don’t get upset if the reaction isn’t what you expected.
Any action you perform on someone else’s character, no matter what the action might be, should be phrased as an attempt. By making an attempt instead of just doing it outright, you give the character’s player the chance to consent to the action or avoid it if it’s something they’d rather not have happen to their character.

Be considerate of the role-playing mood of others. If you come into a situation where other characters are already engaged in some RP, don’t just leap in with a radically different mood unless you get permission (Either IC or OOC, depending on the situation and whether you have any way to contact them OOC). As an example...say there is a couple sitting at a table discussing a recently deceased character and you jump in acting like a court jester and spill their drinks in their laps while telling bad jokes. You aren’t going to make friends like this if your actions offend the players behind the characters.

Don’t try to be the center of attention all the time. Be polite and share attention with other characters. You aren’t the only one there to have fun, give everyone their turn in the spotlight.

Give others time to react to you. One of the strangest things I’ve noticed in graphical online RPG’s is impatience. People will walk up, say something, wait about 0.0001 seconds and run off. The person they talked to would barely have had enough time to read what they said, let alone respond to it. This also happens in conversations. People will say something, wait a very short amount of time, then keep going as if they think the person they were talking to didn’t hear them or isn’t going to respond. In most cases, the other person was going to respond but simply wasn’t as fast as expected, and loses the chance because the conversation has moved on without them. There’s no need to hurry so much, just relax and enjoy the interaction.

Avoid god-like abilities for your characters. Rping isn’t about who can make up the best super powers for their characters, it’s about the personalities of the characters. Any character that is ridiculously powerful or has a perfect personality is going to be fairly boring to RP with and will end up being mostly ignored by others.

It is generally considered rude to just up and attack someone out of the blue. If you and your target are not part of some planned combat event, get OOC consent from the player before you attack their character (This can be done IC if you make your meaning clear enough and you can't contact the other players OOC). If there’s no good way to get this permission, at least give them plenty of IC warning that you might attack, and if they seem to approve IC, then go ahead. If they don’t seem willing to fight, or you can’t tell one way or another, it would be best not to attack them to avoid OOC troubles.

Never include someone else’s character in a written story that didn’t actually happen exactly as you wrote it without letting that character’s player proofread and approve the story before you post it.

When writing up a story about combat that happened in-game, don’t be literal. Gaming engines invariably have the loser of a fight "die". Since no one likes building characters over and over, there’s always some way to get raised from the dead. But just because you killed someone’s character and chopped up their body in the game doesn’t give you the right to write this up exactly as the combat engine portrayed it. There’s two reasons for this...either the character that lost has to get resurrected and put back together, or the character is permanently dead or maimed. It gets very old having people die all the time and getting dismembered only to show up the next day just fine. It would also get old if people had to waste their character development by killing off their character due solely to something that happened based on the combat engine of the game (which we all know is much less than fair due to lag and computer crashes) and not on RP. So it’s polite to alter events a little bit. If the combat was a large battle, mention casualties but don’t give names to the dead. Just assume the two sides had several no-name extras along for the fight that can provide convenient dead bodies. If it was a duel, then have it be to first blood or to loss of consciousness...unless of course a character’s true death was agreed upon OOC ahead of time by the character’s player, but these situations will be very rare.

This is only the basics, but if you are unexperienced it might be helpful.

    Farewell for now.

Very interesting. I agree with most Roleplaying guidelines written but not all.
For instance: Why can't a super strong character be a good roleplaying partner? I dont see any reason.

Well to be a roleplayer living by the guidelines you posted is too much for me, sometimes I just enjoy the simplicity of leveling and regular chatting.
For me it would be way too tiring to keep ooc and ic so seperated as mentioned.

Anyway, thanks for this interesting read.

I agree that in Tibia these guidelines are really tough to follow. About the super strong character, im afraid you missunderstood a little.

When you are writing in a roleplaying story, you can be as strong as you want. What they mean with a superstrong character is that there is no fun writing with someone who plays a "god". (for example) if I write about a huge mountain snake which is 80 feet long and got extremely sharp teeth and no man has ever seen one and survived, it would be kind of boring if you walk up to the snake and slay it with one arrow. that is what they mean, if you write as you are superior than everyone else and nothing can stop you, there is just no fun writing with you.

I hope you understand it better now, they dont mean how powerful your character can be ingame. When I write I usualy do the same harm as any lvl 20. your level ingame does not really matter in a roleplaying story, mostly becouse not many talk about level and skills, they simply talk about the person itself and his/her past.

    Farewell for now.
