    It's Christmas time!!!!! :o)
I didn't write much on this board lately, I was rather busy with a new show and had no time for playing on internet... Finally everything's ready for the upcoming show, the opening party will be next Saturday (there will be also a local tv and it seems they'll interview me   Oh Lord, can you imagine this silly girl talking seriously about art in front of a camera?????? Who knows what sort of stupid things will come out of my mouth!!    )
Btw, I finally had the time to *put the nose out of the door*... everything's ready for X-mas here: the streets are full of lights, Santa Claus puppets anywhere and the shops full of nice things to buy with not so nice prices :? In the main square of my small town there are some funny X-mas lights: they put some spots and a couple of those old fashioned disco balls covered with mirrors. When it's dark everything is glittering and it looks like a bunch of little falling stars :D Cute, it's the first year we have it and it's really nice!!
Since there are people from all over the world here, I was just wondering what kind of X-mas traditions you have, if and how you celebrate X-mas.
Here we use to have a big lunch on the 25th (or a big dinner on the 24th, it depends on the area you live in) with family and relatives and every sort of fat tasteful food :P We usually put our gifts under our X-mas tree and open them on the night between 24th and 25th after midnight (or simply on the 25th as I have always done; I'm too lazy to wait for midnight! ). We have holydays also on the 26th, probably to recover from the huge amount of food we ate at X-mas...
When Christmas is over we start preparing for the New Year party, on the night of 31st... again another huge dinner (it seems Italians do nothing but eating!! ) and then you can find any kind of party in discos, pubs or whatever. But the New Year parties I love the best are those I spend at home with some friends, eating good things, drinking (maybe a bit more than usual... ) and doing silly things like playing cards, bingo, risiko, or any other thing that can be a good excuse for laughing :D There's too much chaos in pubs and discos to really enjoy the party...
But it's not over yet... on January 6th we have holidays again, to celebrate the three Holy Kings bringing their gifts to Jesus. And children (and not only children... Mom still does it for me... ) get their socks filled with sweeties! Well, the legend says that the old lady called *Befana* who brings those socks fills them with sweeties if children were good or with coal if they were naughty. When I was a child, Mom always put a couple of coal pieces hidden in the sweeties... now I get only sweeties... maybe it means I've become a good girl, who knows!
Ok, the story of our X-mas traditions ends here... I'd like to know about your traditions... since it's a silly personal curiosity, I thought to post it here... though it seems people are a bit scared by using Piet's Central Station for posting messages... :D
Now it's time for me to go out and visit the X-mas market to find some gifts for my friends... Oh, this is typical of this season: usually shops are closed on Sunday, but not around X-mas. On the four Sundays before X-mas every shop is open... just to invite people to spend more money, you know...

Well, hope you'll have a nice X-mas time... And be good, old Santa's watching you!!

Hey Roxy! Did you recieve my "thank you!!" email? ;) Also, get ready for a surprise around Christmas!! :P I liked your art in your site (I've mentioned my favorite in the email :P).

Anyway, wow, Christmas. Nepal doesn't really celebrate, btu I always feel warm and fuzzy then, so we always go out somewhere and enjoy!! :D

Our tradition is normally to invite another family to join us for a meal in a place we here we call "Thamel". And we make sure we have "Virgin Mary"! :D lol!! :D:D

On New Year's, we stay over night at a friend's and party! Last time I learned how to 'elegantly' open up a champaign bottle (incase I'm in company of someone who's more informed about these things than I am)... lol, it was great! And I don't sleep till around 3 AM, and everyone will have slept. Then whent he dog(s) start barking, I feel at home and I sleep ( lol, it's true!).

Of course, that and see a LOT of Christmas movies to get the feeling! :D

    Merry X-Mas all!! :D

About champaign bottles... I've never learnt to open them!! I hate them! I can cook for an army, prepare pasta, any kind of vegetables and any sort of cakes for a whole family, but I really CAN'T open those stupid bottles! :( Well, in case you will ever be my guest, I'll stay in the kitchen cooking and you'll stay at the table opening all the bottles!!

I've just come back from the opening party and I am, as we say *half dead*! There was a chaos, I'm so tired, I'm falling asleep...

Black Forest? Sorry... can't help you with that, I don't know many German recipes... maybe you should ask the Savior's wives!!

    Mexican Holidays
    DAMN!!! :x
I've been away for a LONG, AND I MEAN A LONG FUCKING PERIOD OF TIME, YOU KNOW? :x

It's been way longer than I thought it will be, but I think I am back for good this time. I have a steady broadband connection; I still lack my own DSL at home, but I got one here, in my new job, so I'll have time to post again. I swear I missed you all guys, (even US Army  !!) and specially Roxy. :D
So, today is, ironically enough, valentin's day, and I just discovered Roxy's post about parties and traditions.
I know I'm way late with this answer, but I decided to post anyway, since I have no plans of getting away again.
It seems that Christhmas here is EXACTLY the same as in Italy!
I would have thought that you were describing MY Christmas.

The only difference is the King's thing in January. Here, little children earn the right to ask the toys they want the most the night of Jan 5th, if they are good all the rest of the year (that's a lie, because there's no one cruel enough not to give them presents; in the end, all children get their toys, no matter what, is just a trick people use to make them behave!) At least three toys are awarded (one for each king; if you get more, you're lucky, or have wealthy or generous parents).

All family gathers next night (Jan 6th) for a special cake that we only eat on that date. It's called "Rosca de Reyes" (Reyes = Kings, Rosca = ???)
Rosca is a very big brown oval bread with a hole in its center, like an elongated tire) that has several stripes of colored soft candy, (called "Acitrones") and several shugar crust sections. The whole "Rosca" thing is a game, bacause inside this bread, there are hidden several (depending on the size of the Rosca, 4, 8, 12, or even 16!) plastic white figures shaped as litlle kids (We call them "niño", "monito" or "muñequito")

No one knows exacly where those are, because their location is completely random. So, if you cut the bread, and reveal a "niño", everybody laughs, because now you are to pay for the next family party's "tamales" and "atole" (On Feb 2nd, Candelaria's Day) which are tipical food and drink, (but those are not exclusive to that day)

The cost of the next party will be divided equally among all those who got a "niño" in the Rosca. We have a lot of fun with that!!!

By the way, I ALWAYS get a "niño"!, I wish Iknow why.
Apparently I have a 6th sense to find them!!!
2005 is the first year since I can remember when I did not get one.

    Cheers for X-mas!
Even if I'm 2 1/2 months late!
    Happy to be here again.

    Rod.
