Diver finds dead fish is live shark

OSLO, Norway, July 18 A Norwegian diver said Wednesday that he was bitten by a small shark in the Oslo Fjord, just west of the capital city.

Odd Ingebretsen told Aftenposten that he believed at first the shark was a dead fish. The shark, about 3 feet long, was on the bottom of the fjord.

"When I touched it, I realized quickly that it neither was dead nor an ordinary fish," he said.

The shark bit his arm, which was covered by computer equipment.

Ingebretsen identified his attacker as scyliorhinus canicula. The small shark, which is usually found on the sea bottom in shallow waters, has is called the common dogfish or small-spotted cat shark, Afterposten said.

Other sharks have been observed in the fjord, Ingebretsen told Aftenposten. But he doesn't believe they pose any danger to divers as long as they are left alone.
