Seeing as we have no terrainer as far as I know, I'm up for the job. I've talked to nooK about it a bit over at wc3campaigns, but he hasn't given me the go-ahead yet. Anyhow, my vision:
More of an open countryside, way less trees (AoSes rely on these too much in my opinion), possibly some small farms around the battlefield, a cliff on the right as before, waterfall running through the middle, but not in the way of the lanes (bridges perhaps), and some fields of grain and whatever else they ate. At the center, a large battlefield, open from all directions. Some bandit camps, maybe (Black Guard among them), maybe even some that could have their own special mercenaries? We'll see.

I think several different terrains (Including the original) would be awesome. Think of the variation it would add to the game!
Perhaps in a level-select format like EotA, or even as separate files?
Either way, I like the current terrain. If there are changes to it, I want to be able to play both versions. _________________ Clan KoNL Co-Chieftan;

Hm I don´t know if we need a new terrain now we have the 6v6 feature making the map no longer too big, imo.
Level select sucks for me, no minimap ...
What do you others think ? |

I don't think level select is necessary. One good looking level is enough for an AOS. At least for me.
If what you mean, nooK, is that the crossing paths are no longer necessary with 6v6, I guess I can see your point. It might still be interesting to have them cross, but maybe that would make mid a little too active? I don't know.
I'd still be in favour of less drastic modification, along the lines of what MS has mentioned. The current terrain is nice, but it could be better. I would like to see a reduction in space between lanes, so going from one to another isn't so tedious. More convenient gank-points would be nice, too. |

My suggestion in terrain:
1. Change fountain position in base.. Now is to close to base and is not fear litlly noobing game is when someone stand to cover base....
2. Add fountain to center area of map.
3. Add Teleport to moving to down of map.
4. (Offtopic) Delete repair function in map peon workers.. If someon repair towers game is to loong and not fun...
Sorry for bad English.. _________________

Either way, I can still improve upon the current terrain (it is pretty rough around the edges now, in my opinion), but I'd like to see it a bit more open, trees are just a cover-up for lazy terrainers if you ask me. I also think the layout could be improved upon a bit, I have a hard time seeing why they'd be battlnig in a forest with perfect lanes in the first place. Here's a *very* rough sketch of my idea.

- You're talking about removing trees... This scares me But I wont complain as long as you keep this in mind:

- Trees - creating certain paths to escape/surpriseattack through or hide in etc.
- Special spots - maybe you could add some cool hiding spots, like being able to hide behind falling water and such

| Yes, but the fact remains that nearly all AoSes have way to many trees for there own good. I like escape routes, but why not through hills or through a field of grain rather than trees? I think each lane should have a certain attribute (my forest in the corner would be the best area for surprise attacks, etc.), rather than all of them share the same characteristics. |

WTF? It's pretty obvious that reparing buildings is the main reason peasants ar ein the game at all! |

- Yes, those escape routes seems nice, but there's one specific thing I'm thinking about: Fog. With just a tiny group of cleverly placed trees you can stall your enemy for several seconds, and might end up getting him on the wrong track, while you run away through f.ex a field of grain So I'm thinking more about those small places where you can shake the enemy off for good, not a long route just for running. In DotA you also have another important element for the trees: At some paths, there are glitches in the treewalls where you can either,
A) run straight into a dead end just to hide from incoming enemies or prepare for an ambush.
B) Use a tiny (not visible) path in the woods to get from one point to another. In this case it's again about stalling or shaking off your enemy, but tiny paths can also be used to block someone in, wich is a great and fun strategical move.
The funny thing about DotA of course is that they never intended it to be like this (I'm pretty sure of this at least), it was just a mistake made by the terrainer. Then people started noticing these places and found a way to use them to their own advantage. |

| Sorry but i don´t like the sketch: It`s too much asymetric, and the placing of the towers is weird and it looks just unfair, mid nolonger has interaction. |

Yes, the sketch is very rough, as stated. But if you get the idea of it, that's what I'm going for. I wasn't going for complete symmetry though, as I think that's too much of a staple in AoSes too. |
