Lugna vatten
On another thread I was totally surprised that some of you don´t like "Lugna vatten" from Frida´s album "Djupa Andetag" very much. For others it´s one of their favorites.
I think it´s a wonderful song. The melody is lovely, Frida sounds relaxed and the whole song has an easy beautiful feeling.
What do you think about "Lugna Vatten"? :D

You are not the only ones :D
Well, I understand why people don't like Lugna vatten but for me personally this song is one of the highlights of Djupa andetag. The minimalistic approach worked very well, especially the a capella intro and acoustic guitar in the verses. It gave the song that slightly folk flavor I love so much.
Also this is one of the best examples how one doesn't need to holler to make a really good song ;)

I LOVE Lugna Vatten . The lyrics are fantastic, her voice is so warm and sensual. I love the way the song starts, just her voice and a guitar (I think - I'm awful at hearing instruments). It's really a fantastic song on a super fantastic album.

Nice one, Toni :D
Okay, I think people don't like it much because it's not strictly pop music. It has that folk flavor which many people find unacceptable for some reason. Though I personally can't see why I shouldn't like a song if it's different. Moreover, if the song is different it has more chance to become my favorite than when it sounds like 10000 other songs I've already heard before :) The other reason of non-loving Lugna vatten is Frida's interpretation, strange as it may seem. In this respect Lugna vatten suffered the fate of TSWSA which can also be named among one of the most misunderstood Frida songs. Just like in TSWSA Frida decided (or Anders decided, I don't really know) not to belt it out but to use her 'unique musical phrasing' and, consciously or not, to make the song 'transcend all language barriers'. Unfortunately this approach works well only when the listener does listen to the performer without trying to make something out of his listening experience (I mean all this charts/popularity nonsense, sure). Thus, if the listener just lets himself/herself be taken by Frida's wondrous voice, by her very warm and personal tone and by the way she pronounces each word in this song, he/she will really love this song, it just can't be otherwise :)
To those who disagree:
Everything stated above is NOT The Universal Truth but my probably not very humble personal opinion, so if you disagree, please, don't try to kill me  It would be better if you try to explain why don't like the song first ;) And I promise to kindly answer any questions concerning Lugna vatten or any other Frida song :)

I got shivers in my whole body he first time i listened to Lugna Vatten precisely because of the unique timbre of Frida's wondrous voice in the verses and the bridge...and especially that haunting start, almost acapella in which her voice is SO moving....precisely what you are talking about Kate.

There isn't a song on Djupa Andetag that I dislike, which is a rarity for me as I don't always like every song on an album.

I said already a few times here, but I regard "Djupa Andetag" as one of my favourite albums ever,by any artist..
For me Frida at least equalled, with this wondrous album, the all round quality of the 2 best Abba Albums (according to me) "Arrival' and "the album"
And "Lugna vatten " is a splendid contribution to that all round quality.

:agree: I think the only reason why it's not counted as one of the top 100 albums of all time is because it's in Swedish.

Hello,
I am always excited to read opinions about one specific song and I am even happier that it is Lugna Vatten which is now brought up.
Actually when I first heard that piece I intensely disliked it. I couldn't quite explain why. Later my opinion was slightly changed but it is still not a complete favourite.
I just ADORE the intro with the acustic intro, and as Kate has mentioned, indeed it has a spice of folk and that's absolutely wonderful.
And then comes the refren, with her singing Lugna Vatten only, which I still haven't come to good terms with. Somehow I feel disharmony here, to both the intro and the lyrics. Of course music gives different sensations to all, but to me that main theme with the half note differences (?) in Va-atten carries some fright, a sense of being endangoured, which is in total opposition to the lyrics, and probably to the calmness of her intro (and of course the continuing, which is between the refrens).
I used to think of cutting the piece, making a short version, probably that would have grown to be my most favourite Frida track, but then I felt it was a bit like breaking sg sacred  it wouldn't have been a whole, lacking something important. Now I quite love the song, for its intro and I listen to the refren, having no other choice

and me! i think its one of the best songs on the album. i used to skip it because i didn't understand the subtle sound but this evening as i was coming back from uni on the bus i glanced out the window and saw the sky which was in different shades of blue and purple and it came on my ipod just at that moment...it suited the sky so well, if you know what i mean

I think its a song that could fit on the Anni-frid Lyngstad 1967-72 album, but on Djupa Andetag its a perfect change of tempo and style.

This recording is a gem from the Djupa Andertag recording sessions (as is the whole recording). I play this CD more than any other Abba or related. It just makes me feel so happy and wonderful really.
Lugna Vartan is great to listen to whilst looking out to see - waves crashing onto rocks, or the serene calmness of a calm sea. This track evokes many great feelings and emotions and builds into a wonderful piece of music.
I agree in that all tracks on this recording are first class - Frida portrayed exactly what she wanted to convey - and this in my humble opinion is the masterpiece of all Frida recordings and is up there with the very best/elite of recorded sound.
How I long (and I am not the only one) for another recorded sound from Frida and produced by Jon Lord.................this would be undoubtedly happy times indeed.

I have always liked that song and I think it evokes a lot of different moods, as this thread is demonstrating. 8)
I also agree with Andrewlincs and hope and pray the Jon Lord colaboration eventually comes to fruitition. I would love to hear a Frida version of Novemeber calls from Beyond the notes.

Lugna vatten
I think Lugna Vatten is very sensual and sophisticated song and Frida delivers it wonderfully with her life-experience. She has been through so much in good and bad.
