Just had a look. This section was VERY well thought-out and is laid out wonderfully. It includes all of the key information that was missing from the old site, like catalog numbers, pictures of single sleeves, that sort of thing, so that anyone looking to get into collecting the back catalog has a good reference source. Well done!!! The BEST section on that site. By far. At least the music got its proper tribute. :clap :clap :clap

It's absolutely fantastic what the SR.com people did in the Music Section!!! :whistle I just love it!!!! The only thing I would like to change is to be able here the complete song in the Audio section instead of just a 30 second clip. I know that was the way it was before the changes but it would be nice to be able to listen to it all!!! There are quite a few songs listed that I have never heard SR perform before & wish I could. At least they should let us here the entire songs that are not on any of the CD’S! Maybe I’ll send an e-mail to the staff at SR.com asking about this???

I bet they would do that Diana, if it wasn't for legal issues. I think Elaine explained it on the old forum.
On one hand simplyred.com is not owner of most of these songs (not even the ones Mick has written himself), that's why they can't put the whole songs on their website without getting into trouble with law.
On the other hand (concerning the newer material released by simplyred.com) they still like to sell some of their records.
However I think it's a great thing to have this + the downloadable video clips at all!
Hope I got things right (forgive me if not, 'cause I'm not a lawyer ;))

Could be right with that--especially with the tracks from TV performances and such, or with the out-of-print singles released on EastWest or Elektra, you'd have to get all kinds of permissions and whatnot, and maybe it's too expensive a legal hassle to go through.
And for some of the tracks, I suppose it's within SR.com's best interest to just provide a teaser--to incite you to buy the whole CD or single.
Just depends on the track, I think.

I once asked Elaine about the song "Gangsta paradise". It was shown on a fanclub-meeting (before Blue came out). I loved that song immediatelly but she couldn't help me, it was from the French TV :-(
My hubbie bought the offical song (not with Mick of course) for me as a present on my birthday :-D

Just depends on the track, I think. You are both right shannon & michi about the legal issues. I now remember from the old forums Elaine told us that some of the songs listed could not be completely played for this reason. It really stinks that it has to be that way but what can you do. Who knows, maybe some day in the future it can happen. It would be cool if at least we could download them for a fee. That way the rightful owners would get compensated. Wishful thinking on my part. I'm just a fan who wants to hear SR music! :clap

Apart from the desire to showcase old songs by way of a new interpretation and to demonstrate the band's obvious skills and maturity - "Simplified" is a device whereby Mick can regain ownership of some of the great music he has written. He can't own the songs but he can own the revenues that come from the sales of the new versions. A very smart artistic and fiscal decision I would say. I salute him for it.
So, if you like the snippet of music - buy the whole song. This is how the band makes their living and we can respect and reward their efforts by purchasing their products. If we don't like it, then we don't buy it. Same deal.

However it's such a pity for all the rare songs Mick has sung that you won't get anymore - for example songs he only did on TV-shows. :-(

I've seen this debated in many a venue, and the conclusion always seems to be the same--the artists make the most money off the TOURS, not the CD sales. By the time the distributors, managers, and all the other people "behind the scenes" are paid, the artist takes home like 10 cents a disc. When you consider that the going price is around $18 for a new CD these days, that's a pretty damn small profit margin.
Also, one thing to consider regarding the music section--for the items that are still in print (the albums and the current singles), what Karen wrote applies. If you like it, you can indeed go out and show your support with a purchase. But so much of what's on there is, as Michi mentioned, one-offs on TV appearances that the TV companies have exclusive rights to (hence the legal issues), or long-out-of-print single B-sides. You can still get them if you look hard enough, but they will most likely be used copies--which means SR don't see a dime of your purchase, what was to be gotten already was long ago. So it doesn't make much sense to me to not release the rights to those, but hey, what do I know. I'm just a fan. :-D
Which is why I offered to help anyone out with stuff I have--spent years collecting the back catalog, and I'd like to share the music. That's what we're all here for, right? :wink:
