Originally lots of pets has skills they would use too if you were a good owner... but not sure they made it out of initial beta testing (ones I remember seeing listed - Isis -> Magnificat, Poring,Poporing, Drops, Yoyo -> carry items for you, Lunatic -> gloria). These skills would activate occasionally for a short time.
Be worth keeping an eye on whether this is going to happen or not - if it does some training items could become very valuable!
