Fave Non-SR Track/Project Done By Mick or Any Band Member
The Simply Red back catalog is quite sweet, but Mick and each of our band members have done plenty of projects on the side as well. Of what you've heard so far, what's your favorite?

And for those of you who haven't heard any non-SR stuff done by our lads and lasses, why not check out what some of us mention here? :-D

    Mine...hmmm.

Mick--love that track he did with Andy Hamilton, "You Are Too Beautiful", but alas, I don't have a decent copy, just a crap tape dub. :-(

Kenji--don't have any of his side projects yet that I'm aware, but I really want to check out his album "Hula Hula Dance", I've read reviews and it sounds interesting.

Kevin--just have his Jazz Jamaica All-Stars work right now (the 'Massive' album), but look forward to checking out his work with Incognito. In the meantime, I love that JJAS album to pieces, and his arrangement on "Dolphin Dance" is DA BOMB.

Chris, Dee, and John--haven't heard any of their side stuff (has Dee even done any besides that Nelson Mandela concert???).

Pete--ooooooh, tough one! Um...er...crap, I can't choose just one!! Top 5, in no particular order: Acoustic Alchemy's "Senjo Wine", Tony Remy's "Blue Vibe" and "Love Me Now" (off 'Metamorfollow-G'--KILLER album, start to finish!), Vibraphonic's "(It's A) Vibe Vibe", and Courtney Pine's "Eastern Standard Time". Lots of other great stuff to be had though.

Steve--same dilemma. Tony Remy's "Jah Beans" (also off 'Metamorfollow-G'), Outside's "Moodswing", Jean Toussaint's "Lament for Kenny", whatever tracks he did on Izit's 'The Whole Affair' album (but if he did the title track, that would take the overall title!!! :D ), and...*puts on raincoat to duck the rotten tomatoes* Kylie Minogue's "In Your Eyes". I LIKE IT. SUE ME. Again, plenty more great tunes to choose from, those just stand out to me, because of tone, technique, groove, whatever.

Dave--just discovering some stuff he's done, I LOVE George Michael's track "Outside" and only just found out not too long ago he'd worked on that. Sweet!!

Ian--love his sax on Heitor Pereira's track "Manchester", really cooks. (Yes, that would be SR's ex-guitarist Heitor. The solo album I have of his--flippin' amazing.)

Sarah--the only thing I have is her work on Duran Duran's '04 tour with the 'Live From London' DVD--but she did great on there. Very nice vocal on "Come Undone", and plenty of good dancing and enthusiasm throughout the show. She looked like she had a blast!

Whew!! Someone else's turn now. :D What back catalog gems has everyone else discovered?

    Would hard to select one.

Love Kevin's contributions on Basia's albums, and other albums
she did with other artists (Matt Bianco).

Not sure which albums Dave played on with Annie Lennox
but on the SR Band Bio, there is no mention of it.

Have not had the pleasure of sampling the other projects
except the web link to Fritz's site on his last CD.

    :)

Yes, nice song :-D I could help you out on that one! You know, I have the album AND I have a working computer

However my favourites would be "Beside You" (from the Movie What Dreams May Come) and "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know" with Joe Perry (Aerosmith) on guitar, that's from the Les Paul & Friends album.

Such a pity but I think I don't know any songs of all the other bandmates :-(
Would definitely love to hear some stuff done by Ian :top

Checked all Annie that I have currently--no credits for Dave on 'Medusa' or 'Diva' (though Kenji played on that one!), and the keyboardist on the Eurythmics' 'Peace' album was Andy Wright, also a known name in SR circles. (Also had the Lewinsons helping out on their respective instruments, and they did the tour! Awesome DVD also :-D )

I THINK, but could be wrong, that Dave played on Annie's track on Herbie Hancock's 'Possibilities' album. Don't have it yet but will be getting it.

Besides that, he may have just helped her out live. Or he may have played on 'Bare'. Why don't you e-mail him at the Pressure Zone site and ask (if he's not already reading this)?

Yes, I too enjoyed Heitors album. I had a tape copy, then was fortunate to pick up a virtually new copy off ebay a couple of years back. It gets lots of play still in my house. I also enjoy Gota's album from the early 90's. Still only a tape copy of it. Can't track down a real version.

That's about all I have had access to and been able to put my hands on. :D

You're welcome, Redlollipop...I just barely scratched the surface of what all of these musicians have done. Go to the 'Simply Red @ The World Wide Web' section, under the general band links thread--I have a site listed there that will help you search under each musician's name for other session work.
You've got quite a good list here yourself! And you're including some great work done by former SR members. Olive's 'Extra Virgin' is my fave of those you listed that I have.
For those wanting to find these recordings, Amazon and eBay are great places to start. Went after Ronny Jordan's 'A Brighter Day' on eBay a while back--won it for 1 PENNY--and it was a brand-new, still-sealed copy!! Only had to pay cheap media mail shipping on it. $2.50. (Criminal, as it is a very nice jazz guitar album.) You won't get that lucky with all of these as some of the stuff is more rare, but you'll make a good dent. :D

    Fave Non-SR Track
    Hi Sas,
I hope you had a good Easter. Very many thanks for the info. I'll certainly check out the list when I have a few extra minutes to spare. It's good to know you think I have a good collection of recordings. In addtion to those I listed I've also been attempting to collect the original artists and songs that Mick/SR have 'covered'. I don't have time at the moment to sort out all of the recordings to give catalogue numbers and titles but from memory these are some that I have:

7" single and CD single: Money's Too Tight To Mention - The Valentine Brothers
    CD album:Heaven - Talking Heads
Night Nurse - Gregory Isaacs (on a compilation reggae album)

Also forgot to add to the previous message that I have the DVD and CD album of the film De-Lovely.

Also I think I may have the entire song collection and Mick's interview in the Frantic Elevators collection. (Unfortunately most of these are copy recordings only).
