"Dämpfungsimpuls-Relais" (DIR) means "damping pulse relay", and I think it was use for the radio equipment, in relation to the frequency.

Hello Fanatyk6 and Nils,
If indeed the abbreviation is indicated as "DIR" then it could be something else. The Glossary of German Aeronautical codes, models, project numbers, abbreviations etc" of the Defence Documentation Center (USA 1947) gives the following information on "DIR": code for an oxygen carrier used in rockets consisting of highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide also known as DIR neutralin subsidol aurol." It that direction it has something to do with rockets maybe the V1 or V2, not with a/c.
