Guests and posting
I was just viewing Who is Online and it said one guest was "Posting a message". Since when are guests able to post messages?

Mike, I am not sure what you mean... Using this as an example, can you indicate where you saw that a guest was posting a message?

If you click on Who is Online, you'll see a list of members who are logged in and other people who are not logged in (instead of a user name, it says "Guest"). For each person, it says what section of the forum he/she is in, or it says "Posting a message", "Viewing private messages", or "Viewing Who is online". I noticed that for one guest, it said "Posting a message".

Zounds. I never realized in two years that the "Who is online" phrase is an active link to a hidden feature. I thought this list was an exclusive feature of the admin section. LOL.
Guests can not post messages. You can easily check this. Try to post something somewhere without logging in, it won't work.
But nevertheless there is a possible explanation for what you saw, Mike.
The online status of members who have chosen the "hidden" option in their profile can not be monitored by fellow members. Since their name does not appear on the online list, it might well be that their posting attempts are listed as "guest posts" in this particular list.
Administrators and moderators with admin status always can see who's logged in, they are able to demask all shields. To prove my theory it would be necessary to wait for a hidden member posting and check the given information in each list. Of course this only can be done by someone with access to admin.
The next time I see a hidden member posting I will try to crossmatch it with the "Who's online"list.
Concerning guest posts, also see this thread in the FAQ section:

Not.
We are not able to read other people's PMs. Not that we ever were willing to do this, but anyway. It's technically impossible without a malicious attempt of hacking the forum database.
:D

Johnny, your explanation about hidden members is probably right. I thought of it after I started this thread.
Just to make sure there is no misunderstanding, if Who is Online says someone is "Viewing private messages" it means that person is viewing PMs he/she has received (or sent).
I guess I shouldn't have started this thread or mentioned Who is Online.

I've been using that feature since the very beginning of the forum I must say.
You can also use it as a guest.
What is particular fun is when you spot another member "viewing who is online" too. However, it has never happened to me to meet another curious member while viewing who is online.

:eyebrows: Some people already knew that (thanks Mike for giving me the tip a while back ;-) ). It's a really amusing feature and I'm guilty of using it. A lot. It's great fun to see who gets a lot of PMs. :P

I didn't have a clue that "Who's Online" was an active link. I thought it was just a header.
How do you folks find these things? Do you click on everything until you get a reaction? :P
