The human whose name is written in this note shall die.
このノートに名前を書かれた人間は死ぬ。
This note will note take effect unless the writer has the person's face in their mind when writing his /her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.
書く人物の顔が頭に入っていないと、例えノートに書き込んでも効果はない。ゆえに同姓同名の人物に一遍に効果は得られない。
If the cause of death is written in within 40 seconds of writing the person's name, it will happen.
名前の後に40秒以内に死因を書くと、その通りになる。
If the cause of death is not specified, the person will simply die of a heart attack.
死因を書かなければ、全てが心臓麻痺となる。
After writing the cause of death, details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds.
死因を書くと更に6分40秒、詳しい死の状況を記載する時間が与えられる。

This note shall become the property of the human world, once it touches the ground of (arrives in) the human world.
このノートは人間界の地に着いた時点から人間界の物となる。
The owner of the note can recognize the image and voice of its original owner, i.e. a god of death.
所有者はノートの元の持ち主である死神の姿や声を認知する事ができる。
The human who uses this note can neither go to Heaven or Hell.
このノートを使った人間は、天国にも地獄にも行けない。

If the time of death is written with in 40 seconds after writing the cause of death as a heart attack, the time of death can be manipulated, and the time can go into effect within 40 seconds after writing in the name.
死因に心臓麻痺と書いた後、40秒以内に死亡時刻を書けば、心臓麻痺であっても死の時間を操れ、その時刻は名前を書いてからの40秒以内でも可能である。
The human who touches the DEATH NOTE can recognize the image and voice of its original owner, a god of death, even if the human is not the owner of the note.
デスノートに触った人間は、（そのノートの所有者でなくとも）元持ち主である死神の姿や声が認知できる。

The person in possession of the DEATH NOTE is possessed by a god of death, its original owner, until they die.
デスノートを持っている限り、自分が死ぬまで元持ち主である死神が憑いてまわる。
If a human uses the note, a god of death usually appears in front of him/her within 39 days after he/she uses the note.
死神は通常、人間がノートを使った39日以内に使った者の前に姿を現す。
Gods of death, the original owners of the DEATH NOTE, do not do, in principle, anything which will help or prevent the deaths in the note.
デスノートの元持ち主である死神は、そのノートでの死の手伝いや妨げになる行為は基本的にしない。
A god of death has no obligation to completely explain how to use the note or rules which will apply to the human who owns it.
デスノートの使い方や、それを持つ人間に発生する掟を死神が全て説明する義務はない。

A god of death can extend his life by putting human names on the note, but humans cannot.
死神はデスノートに人間の名前を書くことで自分の寿命を延ばせる（人間の寿命を貰える）が、人間は延ばす事ができない。
A person can shorten his or her own life by using the note.
自分で自分の寿命をデスノートによって縮める事はできる。
The human who becomes the owner of the DEATH NOTE can, in exchange of half of his/her remaining life, get the eyeballs of the god of death which will enable him/her to see a human's name and remaining lifetime when looking through them.
デスノートの所有者となった人間は、自分の残された寿命の半分と引き換えに、人間の顔を見るとその人間の名前と寿命の見える「死神の眼球」を貰う事ができる。
A god of the can not be killed even if stabbed in his heart with a knife for shot in the head with a gun. However, there are ways to kill a god of death, which are not generally known to the gods of the death.
死神の心臓をナイフで刺しても、頭を銃で撃ち抜いても殺す事はできない。死神を殺す方法は存在するが、普通の死神には知らされていない。

The conditions for death will not be realized unless it is physically possible for that human or it is reasonably assumed to be carried out by that human.
書き入れる死の状況は、その人間が物理的に可能な事、その人間がやってもおかしくない範囲の行動でなければ実現しない。
The specific scope of the condition for death is not known to the god of death, either. So, you must examine and find out.
死の状況で可能になる事の詳細な範囲は死神にもわからないので、自分で検証し明らかにしていくしかない。

One page taken from the DEATH NOTE, or even a fragment of the page, contains the full effects of the note.
デスノートから切り取ったものは、それが1ページであれ切れ端であれ、ノートの特性は変わらない。
The instruments to write with can be anything, (e. g cosmetics, blood, etc) as long as it can write directly on to the note and remains as legible letters.
はっきりとした文字を残せるのであれば、ノートに直接書き込む道具は何でもいい。化粧品や血でも可能である。
Even the original owners of the DEATH NOTE, gods of death, do not know much about the note.
元持ち主である死神でも、デスノートについて知らない事はたくさんある。

You may also write the causes and/or details of death prior to filling in the name of the individual. Be sure to insert the name in front of the written causes of death. You have about 19 days (according to the human calendar) in order to fill in a name.
死因や死の状況を先に書き、あとで名前をその文字の前に書き込んでも有効となる。その際、名前を書くまでの有効期間は約19日間。
Even if you do not actually posses the DEATH NOTE, the effect will be the same if you can recognize the person and his/her name to place in the blank.
デスノートの所有者以外でも、顔と名前の認識を持って名前を書き込めば、所有者が使う時と同じ効果がある。

The DEATH NOTE will not affect those under 780 days old.
生後780日（約2歳2ヶ月）に満たない人間には、デスノートを使っても効果はない。
The DEATH NOTE will be rendered useless if the victim's name is misspelled four times.
同一人物の顔を思い浮かべて４度名前を書き間違えると、その人間に対してデスノートは効かなくなる。

"Suicide " is a valid cause of death. Basically, all humans are thought to possess the possibility to commit suicide. It is, there fore, not something "unbelievable to think of"
死因に「自殺」と書く事は有効。全ての人間は自殺する可能性があるとされており、「考えもしない事」には入らない。
Whether the cause of the individual's death is either a suicide or accident. If the death leads to the death of more than the intended, the person will simply die of a heart attack. This to ensure that other lives are not influenced.
自殺でも事故死でも、名前を書かれた人間以外の死を直接的に招くような死に方をさせる事はできない。（例えば空中における航空旅客機の爆発） もしそういった事態となる事を書き込むと、対象者は第三者に影響を与えない状況下において、心臓麻痺で死ぬ。

Even after the individual's name, the time of death, and death condition on the DEATH NOTE were filled out, the time and condition of death can be altered as many times as you want, as long as it is changed within 6 minutes and 40 seconds from the time it was filled in. But, of course, this is only possible before the victim dies.
デスノートに名前、死の時刻、死の状態を書いた後でも、6分40秒内であれば時刻と状況について、何度でも変更する事ができる。当然の事ながら、その変更は対象者が死んでしまってからでは遅い。
Whenever you want to change anything written on the DEATH NOTE within 6 minutes 40 seconds after you wrote, you must first rule out the characters you want to erase with two straight lines.
デスノートに書き込んだ内容を6分40秒以内で変更する場合、まず直したい箇所の文字の上に二重線を引く事。
As you see above, the time and condition of death can be changed, but once the victim's name has been written the individual's death can never be avoided.
上記の通り、死の時刻や状況は変更可能である。しかし、名前を書かれた人間の死を取り消す事は、絶対にできない。
