ABBA The Movie in cinemas! (Europe)
Thought I would make a new topic for this just in case people didn't get to know about this through my other ABBA The Movie one.

ABBA The Movie will be shown in selected cinemas in the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Norway and Austria.

All the UK showings will take place on the 13th August in Cineworld cinemas, and for information on showings in the Netherlands, Germany, Norway and Austria, see this link (thanks to iancee on the other thread!):

http://www.artsalliancemedia.com/abba.htm

Hope its in a cinema near you, and if not, it does say that more dates and locations to be announced, so hopefully your location will be one of them!

kitty-cat - 20.07.2008, 20:31

My closest showing is in Llandudno which is about 30 miles away but well worth the journey!!

WOW!
Man, I wish that I could see The Movie on the big screen!

I cannot imagine how fun that must be to see it in a cinema! Wish they would release it here somewhere, maybe in an independent cinema or something. That would be a party!!! :P :P :P

We in America would have to fly over the Atlantic Ocean to see it, what's a bit of driving on those super fast Autobahns ? :-P

Johnny, I´m also very  about it. It is such a big wish from me to see the Movie on a big sceen in a theatre but - these cities are to far away :(
BellaIsa - 23.07.2008, 11:29

Damn, I´m on holiday at this time.

I´ve wanted to see the movie in cinema , too.
Nürnberg isn´t far away but this date :(

hey I think I'll swim to the closest place!

restareabear - 23.07.2008, 19:46

I'd love to see this on the big screen! I never got to, sadly. The cinema in my home town at the time of it's release in 1977 was supossed to get the movie - they even had thus huge banner outside promoting it, then it never came! :stupid: I have only seen it at home on my VCR. I wish it would play somewhere near me.
Emmanuelle - 23.07.2008, 20:12

We need to book a charter flight to Europe for all poor left out ABBA fans in North America :D
abbagav - 25.07.2008, 14:49

Wow - it's being shown in Rochester which is about a 2 minute drive from where I live - how fabulous! How can I not go?

I haven't seen it in a cinema since 1981

Gav
galin - 27.07.2008, 18:52

It's being shown in Ireland too, or "Other UK" as Dublin (between Didsbury and Dundee) is referred to but I'll be on holiday then.

Anyone going to next Sunday's showing in Munich? ;-)
Gunnar - 02.08.2008, 01:16

WOW!!!!

I saw ABBA The Movie for the xxxxxxxx'ed time in a cinema in Oslo tonight (at the "premiere").

It's quality in sound and vision is absolutely breathtaking! It's a "must see".... that wonderfull green, red, yellow, orange stagelight and glittery costumes have never been more heavenlier... it's just fabulous!!! And the energy on stage... oh yiess I WANT ABBA!!!!!! :-))))))

And I saw something new... well... never thought about it... Fridas hat during "Why did it have to be me" - is that the hat of the drummer? I noticed tonight that he was without his hat at the end of that song... sooo... I guess Frida borrowed it for that number.

RUN to your cinemas....

Lady-Lyngstad - 04.08.2008, 13:09

I've just booked my tickets for the Aberdeen screening :)

And I saw the trailer for it when I went to see Mamma Mia! for the FOURTH time... :P
All I can say is that it was absolutely breathtaking to see parts of the movie on the big screen, and anyone who can get along to a screening should.

I'm so excited! Only 2 days now!

I went to the cinema again today to see Batman again, and I spotted an absolutely HUGE ABBA The Movie poster. So I went up to the desk and asked them if they would keep it for me when the film was finished. They said they would, so I will have a great big poster to display in my room :D

I also got about 20 promo cards for it, with lots of different pictures on them.

They'll be useful for the museum opening, hopefully might get some signed :)

Great! Can you tell about the photos. The promotion in Norway is quite strange. The Movie is - a as we all know - from 1977, but promoted with known ABBA-shots from 78-79!!!!!

Gunnar
Lady-Lyngstad - 10.08.2008, 23:42

A lot of the pictures of the promo cards are actually shots from the movie, and some are of ABBA onstage.
Quite a few that I have are just the classic ABBA picture that was used on the cover of The Album and The Movie And have the ABBA logo on the back, telling you a bit about the movie.

I will try and get pictures, but both my camera and scanner are broken just now so you might all have to wait :(

Did anyone else do the double I just got home from the movies What an ABBA day I have had I decided to see both films which is something I think I will possibly never have chance to do again The Movie was great on the big screen So clear and the sound was brilliant I never got to see it in the cinema the first time. A brief visit home after some shopping and I was off again to the local cinema for a second look at Mamma Mia which I enjoyed even more this time. I noticed a few things not seen before in both films. And to keep the ABBA day going I bought Gold on CD The last one I bought was on tape. Great to see Gold at number 1 alongside Mamma Mia and the stage show CD filling the top 6 shelves in my local store.
abbagav - 13.08.2008, 23:59

I've just got back from seeing The Movie at the pictures and what an amazing experience it was! I've seen it on video/DVD so many times over the years that I thought it would be just another viewing of the same old thing but seeing it on the big screen for the first time in many, many years brought out so much more in the film that I could ever have expected and I found myself noticing things for the first time! How incredible is that??!!

Like, did anyone see during that parade thing the chap playing the bagpipes wearing a neck-brace? Never seen him before!

And the movie version of I've Been Waiting For You is spine-tinglingly gorgeous. And the video of Eagle (while they're being interviewed in the lift) seemed to sparkle like never before. There are so many things, I can't possibly mention them all. The sound was so mind-bogglingly brilliant throughout, I'm still in shock! What a night...

I can hardly keep up with everything going on in ABBA world these days but it's blinkin' marvellous and I don't want it to stop!!! Even though I'll very shortly be worn to a complete frazzle and need a long holiday before it all kicks off again with the museum opening next year!

I hope you all got/get a chance to see it - it's not to be missed.

imstillalive - 14.08.2008, 11:34

I went last night with my Mum. It was FANTASTIC seeing The Movie on the big screen (I wasn't born until the 80's, so I've never seen The Movie in the Pictures).

Sadly, there was only about 6 of us at the screening, but as we left, I checked the "availability" board and it showed that the 10.30pm screening of The Movie was sold out!!
Lady-Lyngstad - 14.08.2008, 15:59

I saw it last night, and what can I say?! FANTASTIC!

The movie is amazing anyway, but seeing it on the big screen is just out of this world! Because the sound is remasters, and so, so loud, you actually feel as if you are there, watching ABBA in concert! (Which, for people like me, who never saw the first time round, and by the looks of any future reunion hopes, is the closest we will get!)

And yes, there are so many things I never noticed before... like the whole intro of When I Kissed The Teacher plays when one of the little girls is talking about ABBA being "sexy". I never noticed this... I guess I didn't have it up loud enough.

But it was such a great experience, definately my favourite cinema outing in my life!

Glad you all had a great time!

Apapa - 14.08.2008, 19:06

You noticed it as well Lady Lyngstad When I got home I got out my DVD and found that part and sure enough the intro is there. The thing I noticed most was all the detail on the costumes and the jewelery the girls were wearing Also Benny had a sheet on his keyboard with his notes on I had seen the paper before but never noticed the torch neatly kept on the keyboard to read them So many little things like that that you just do not see on DVD
Apapa - 14.08.2008, 19:09

Oh and I forgot to say only 4 people saw the start of the movie when I went We were joined by 2 more after 10 mins so a really packed house I did not check later bookings but was surprised there were so few there when I went

Really enjoyed the Movie. I sat right at the front so I could imagine I was seeing them live in the flesh. [One can dream....].
It was amazing.
Hardly anyone there though! I almost had the place to myself [apart from the dirty mac brigade who were out in force - well there were 2 of them anyway!].
Dont reckon much to the local promotion of this one day event -I only knew about it from coming on here.

Aww Johnsteven, I was going to see it in Glasgow too! I've been there for a while, and got home on Monday! But I came home early, and was planning on seeing it there! It would have been so awesome seeing it knowing there was another forum member there too!

Glad you enjoyed it though, i really hope they do this again sometime, it really was awesome!

I went to see it and it was SO great! So good to see them on the big screen again. At times the picture was a bit grainy, but that's my only 'complaint'. The songs were LOUD and I even enjoyed Benny's solo this time around!

The DJ was a pain and the story pathetic but the concert scenes are ELECTRIC with Agnetha and Frida!

Would you believe at the end a mother and her young child got up and started dancing in the aisles? There was even some applause from the cinema goers! Incredible! Talk about life imitating art! 8)
