LOL Sparkling Red! That is funny :D

I actually like to do cross stitch and had run across those 2 pictures in the past but felt they didn't do Mick justice! But I think it is a great idea and would be fun to do one of him. I am not creative enough to make one up on my own~ I fear it would look like a Picasso with one big eye and a square head with crazy colors! LOL. I think it would be cool to do one of the cover of Picture Book!!!!

    Hi,
I see you've found the Crafts Unlimited website then Masha! I thought someone would find the Cross stitch pics of Mick sooner or later. I think I had better explain.

Having recently taken up the craft of Cross Stitch and having completed a picture of Status Quo for my daughter I tried to find a picture of Mick but without success. I then found Hilary at Crafts-Unlimited and sent her a copy of the photograph (one my hubby took during the 2003 tour) of Mick in the patterned shirt. I know it may not show Mick to his best but it was a good clear close up photograph and something personal to me. When I was asked if I would allow it to be included on the website I agreed, simply because there were no other cross stitch pictures of Mick to be found anywhere so this would be a first. I also know who supplied the other photo and have also got the chart for that one to complete at a later date.

I do hope that this has explained things a little.

If you are interested in viewing the on-line album of my cross stitch work here is the link

it`s unclear from your stpry Lollipop if the croos-stitched picture of Mick in the patterned shirt was cross-stitched by you or did you just send the author of the site a picture and she made the cross-stitched version of it? whoever did it though i`m pleased to repeat i`m stunned at how much live it looks!

Yes Lollipop~ what a very interesting story. Was the picture taken from the "Blue" album era?

If you gave them the picture I would hope they sent you a cross stitch of Mick for FREE!

I'm not sure, but I think I've seen the white shirt (first pic) during the HOME tour. Everytime I saw a pic of Mick wearing that shirt on my PC I feared that I could take a (permanent!) marker to paint in the flowers :D
I think the second one is a shot by Chris (from redmick group) ... but I could be wrong again.

    Hi again.
For those of you who are still a little uncertain about the pics of Mick on the Crafts Unlimited site and how to set about making a cross stitch chart. I sent the photo of Mick in the patterned shirt to Hilary at Crafts Unlimited, she scanned the photograph into her cross stitch chart making programme. This breaks down the photo into sections to give the details and automatically picks up the colours for the threads to be used. For anyone interested, I understand that a basic Cross Stitch chart making programme is available from various PC software stores for approximately £9.99. Hilary returned the photo to me and then emailed me a copy of the picture as it would appear on the chart. Throughout the next few days we worked on the details of the picture together to ensure that I was happy with the representation of the photograph before she finalised the chart and thread colours. The photograph on the website is not actually a completed cross stitch picture, it is her 'capture picture' from the chart. The completed cross stitch picture may or may not be exactly as the picture on the website shows. I have the kit - unfortunately not free - but at a slightly discounted price as I'd supplied the photograph.

As for the source of the photograph for Mick Hucknall 2 on Crafts Unlimited - a good guess has been made here.

The kit for the Mick picture is in my stock of 'kits to be completed'. At present I am one week into sewing a picture 'Nature's Vision' as a gift for my husband but as soon as I have that finished I will be attempting the Mick picture and I will add that to my on-line photo album as it progresses.

I hope this has explained things a little better than my message of yesterday.

The photograph of Mick in the patterned shirt was taken during the 2003 tour at the NEC Birmingham during the November concert.

    Mick in cross stitch
    Hi all,

Just reviving this post. I'm not sure if any of you will be interested but I've started work on the first of the Mick pictures in cross stitch. I've only done a couple of days work on it so far, not much to see but if you click on the www button below this post and then click on the WIP album you will be able to see the work as it progresses. It's a long process taking months, so please don't expect miracles.

Really coming along!!!! The face is clear now...very nice pose chosen for the chart. What all will you be doing for the clothes, background, etc.? How long do you estimate this will take in all? And how much time do you put in per day?

Excellent stitching work. Keep it up!! :-D

Re: Famous Music People Cross Stitch Kit - 2 Micks

    Mick in cross stitch
    Hi Sasred,
Many thanks for your interest and your very kind comments, now to try to answer some of your questions. The photo I had charted is part of the one I add to my signature, so that should give you a very good idea of how it will look when completed but here's a bit more detailed info., hope I don't get too technical.

The original stitching chart has no background colour, it's supposed to be left as blank canvas. I don't really like blank canvas in pictures and I'm not thrilled with the blue/grey canvas supplied (I asked for it as a complete kit, so didn't have much choice on canvas colour). I'm filling in the background with black thread, so far so good!

As you are well aware, stage lighting does strange things to photographs with all the shadows and shades they cast around. The original scan of the photograph picked up Mick's hair as green (obviously not correct) so we had a bit of a problem working out what shades it should be. It looked OK on the capture picture of the chart but when it arrived I thought the orange was too deep for the moustache and sideburns so lightened that to the yellow colour - possibly a bit too light - but this is my first attempt at colour changing from a chart specifications. I've also changed one of the darker shades in the hair to something a bit lighter and hopefully nearer to Micks natural colour.

Mick's skin tones, again due to body heat, stage lighting and the energy Mick gives to his perforance, there are a number of shadows on his face, and there are 7 or 8 skintone thread shades used, including a couple of 'blended' shades where I have to stitch with two different shades of thread together.

Mick's shirt is white with a dark grey/black outline pattern but the stage lighting has thrown on some very pale blue shadows and these have also been picked up by the stitch charting programme, so there will be some light blue areas too.

Mick's ring and bracelet will be stitched in the appropriate shade of metalic thread - something I've not stitched with before and a very experienced stitcher friend of mine has forewarned me that metalic threads aren't easy to work with.

I stitch for about an hour a day, most days but I'm a slow stitcher compared to other stitchers and I 'railroad' (another technical term) each arm of each stitch So far this has taken four months for almost half of it. In total, from beginning to completion it could take anywhere between 8 and 10 months. The finished size is approximately 140 x 190 stitches and measures 8" x 12"

Once completed I will take it to a local picture framers to have it professionally stretched, mounted and framed. This process is fairly expensive but worth it considering the amount of time spent working on it.

I hope this has answered your questions and thank you for taking an interest. Have you looked at any of my other albums? The 'eagle' design in the completed cross stitch took 8 months of last year to complete and was a gift from me to my hubby.

    sasred - 21.01.2007, 03:23

Thanks for all the info!!! I know cross-stitch is a very exact craft, but you've gone the extra mile with this one!! I've got a lot of crafty ladies on my mom's side of the family, so I've been around cross-stitch, crochet, knitting, quilting, etc. I am hopelessly incompetent at all of it...my creative juices go to music. But I can appreciate the love that goes into a project like this! :-D

I've not had a chance to look at your other albums yet but will do...always cool to see or hear someone's creative endeavours. Keep up the good work! :D

    Mick 'in stitches'
    Hi Shannon,
Very many thanks for your comments. Keep up the good work with your music. The nearest I got to a musical instrument was as a member of the Junior School recorder group - between the ages of 7 and 11. I never really mastered the instrument except to play the hymns for school assemly a couple of mornings a week. However, I do still have the same recorder and I think if I really wanted to I could get a bit of a tune out of it, even after all this time.

This is just for info for yourself and anyone else interested that the 5 month stage photo has been added to the WIP album.

Checked out everything...you do amazing work. That eagle one was stunning. And you do many types of crafts, it seems. Great that you do some for charity!! :-D

Re: Famous Music People Cross Stitch Kit - 2 Micks

    Redlollipop - 09.02.2007, 22:09

Shannon, Many thanks for taking the time to look at the albums, and thank you for your very kind comments. I wanted to stitch a picture as a gift for my hubby so asked him to choose a picture he liked from a cross stitch catalogue I'd received and the eagle was the one he chose. I've had favourable comments from everyone who's seen it. The Status Quo picture was for my Stepdaughter as she's been a Quo fan for years. Now I'm doing the first Mick design. I wonder who that could be for...

I wouldn't say I'm an 'expert' at any of the crafts I do, just basic stuff really but learned to knit at about 4 years of ago, learned to crochet at 14 and the other stuff I've learned as I've gone along. Thanks again for looking. I'll post the next stage of Mick in a few weeks, don't think there'll be much more to see as I'm filling in some of the background, a bit boring really and a strain on the eyes as it's all black.
