We have passed 7,000,000 visits!
When I hacked the first site together in 1995 with vi and joe and a little help of Netscape 3.0, there was little of what is considered standard today:
no blogs, no forums - not even website counters. I never would have thought this site would attract more than a few nerdy students playing Empire Deluxe in play-by-email mode - heck, I didn't expect much visitors at all.
And today not just one million but seven million visitors have come and downloaded files here - some probably for their hundredth time.
After the initial hype with new Half-Life patches (before auto-patching and preloading patches became common standard in Valve's games) with well over 7,000 visits a day (resulting in a mad admin, cursing me for using up all bandwidth for hours on end) interest has surely dwindled a bit while patch sizes have risen exponentially (our top patch is now over 2 CDs in size, bigger than most games just a few years back) but surprisingly enough people still come in considerable numbers.

And lets hope the redesign I plan since 2001 is finally surfacing next year :oops:
