Fire&Ice - 15.11.2007, 15:42
I don't have much time for an in-depth story, but I'll be back. Here are a few pictures for now.
I have also made a few videos with two Sony Ericsson phones but I don't know how to convert them and put on YouTube. I use Quick Time player to use them. Any help?
Right!
It all started with one billboard at the bus station where I wait for the bus home:
And another one a little farther from the first one -
And then the day has ARRIVED.
A nice pink stage, just before hearing the chopper sound and Gammal Fabodpsalm and then they broke into - Ring Ring in Swedish! The audience was surprised, but I could sing the song together with them..
A few more:
...and...
Finally, my pride and joy picture which is bad quality, but I love the pose of "Frida" here: 8)
I have to be back to tell the whole story, as well as how I interacted with Vicky right in front of her when the audience stormed the front part - and some more!
PLEASE SOMEONE help me with Quicktime conversion...

Unfortunately I can't help you with converting... :(

Thanks for your information Mailman! I didn't know they even released 2 cd's...though I read on their site that they recorded "Just a Notion"....
Re: ARRIVAL Coverband
Fire&Ice - 15.11.2007, 22:02
Thank you very much Mailman!
Unfort, they did not sing Just a notion. :( And there are no more pictures from Belgrade, but I could ask a friend who had been in Zagreb on 13th November if she would let me put them here, or even better, Ivana MX-5 could do that herself!
These pics are great quality!
Oh the impressions... I wish I could post these videos immediately but if not, I could make a few caps.
Anyway, the three of us went inside and I was wondering about the start of the concert. And then, the magic started!
It was very effective, the light, the sound and then, all of a sudden, "Benny" was there at the piano on the far right. I haven't noticed him come on stage at all. After the introduction described above, they broke into Ring Ring and that was soooo energetic! Then they continued with Hey Hey Helen which they did extremely well.
My sister said that the first part was mostly for hard core fans, but she liked it anyway. A few more songs like Honey honey and then I was totally delighted with the following performance, and that was actually the first song that made the audience go wild! (I must say I was delighted with how the audience reacted at the concert. There was also a big shot in the state there, right there in the first row, taking the seat I had wanted to have LOL  )
Then I think "Bjorn" introduced the song about something we all need, but that wasn't love hehe! My sister exclaimed MMMoney and I immediately pressed rec but at that point I was so excited that I did not zoom in at all..... but the sound is there. Vicky did a great job, she was quite dramatic. She is an excellent Frida I must say - not only did her voice sound Frida-ish, but she is a very warm person and VERY lively on stage! At least she gave me the grand illusion of interacting with Frida during Dancing Queen and SNC (or maybe TACOM..hehe)!
At that point I screamed "Fridaaaa" LOL
Then Anna "Agnetha" started singing I've been waiting for you. Amazing! Of course, we all know this is not Agnetha singing it, but I liked the ease with which she had been singing it. The colour of her voice is very very close to Agnetha, and the girl can sing, she really can. She was so lively on stage! But I got the impression that she was a little shy. :)
They sang Fernando in Swedish too, half of it, and I enjoyed it immensely, especially because the audience was amazed LOL! As for the audience, I noticed that the right side (where I wasn't sitting..sigh) was quite wild, but fortunately I had two more supporters (hard core fans), the girl who wore a cap like Agnetha on 77 tour and she had the 77 Agnetha hairstyle, and a white satin dress - quite sweet and later on we danced together as well LOL and another guy who started dancing immediately upon the beginning.
Finally they did So Long at which everybody jumped off their seats and they sounded quite good! At that point, I realised the horrible truth that both my phones cannot record any more as the memory was full!
Will continue soon.
:D

The Intro and a little Ring Ring in Swedish.
It is not a problem to upload that 3GPP file but I wanted to cut and make a collage of at least the first part of the concert.
Money money money (and at one point you can hear me belt "bravo Frida" and some other reactions as well  )
The audience was singing along throughtout the whole song and it was the first real ROOF RAISER. MMM has always been very popular here.

Actually, you can hear me sing and belt at some points

Thanks Ivana, love to read your report! In Amsterdam the people only started to dance after hearing Mamma Mia!... Till that moment they were all sitting on their seats...I think you are right about Anna that she is a little shy, but indeed she can sing, she sung 'The winner takes it all' with so much power! And when she started 'I've been waiting for you' it gave me the creeps..., but that happens always when I hear that song...
Yes, Frida sung Hey Hey Helen very good.
Will see (and hear) your vids later, because my sound doesn't work right now...

I am always enjoying when I can shere thse strong feelings about ABBA with someone who understands and fells the same as sometimes the people look at me with that look "Jesus, what is the matter with her....I mean that passion" .....sometimes people don't understand :stupid: ....ah, me again, going off-topic.......

Ivana,
this is exciting, I have heard from many that Arrival is a "fake" as close as can get to the original.
I hope they'll come to my place some day and then I surely will go to enjoy a little bit of illusion.

Looking forward to videos!
You'll soon be able to see my medley of SOS, Fernando Swedish, Mamma Mia, Voulez-vous, DYMK, Gimme gimme gimme, Intermezzo No. 1, WIKTT, Waterloo and So Long - only parts of songs and nothing more as my both cameras were full.....
Thanks for the link Karin, will look at it later as I am having guests this evening...
I promise to continue the story very soon!
Johnny, you must not miss it! You'll be amazed at Anna's voice! Her interpretation of the Winner is fabulous!
I was also told they might be back in 2 or 3 years time! :D

Re: ARRIVAL Coverband
Fire&Ice - 17.11.2007, 11:32
After the break they continued with the great show which I couldn't record at all but I was also partly pleased as I could enjoy the show in full. :D
Great performances one after another, the audience extatic, Chiquitita was greeted with ovation, OMOW for which I was glad they chose to sing as Frida wasn't comfortable with it during the 79 tour, and I still got the chance to hear it. When they announced it, the right side of the audience and me on the left started to cheer!
At that point, I kicked myself hard because I couldn't film it.. which continued at the beginning and during The Winner Takes It All.
Now Anna's rendition definitely enchanted the audience as everybody was up and singing. If I was to ask to put various performances of TWTIA in order, that would be naturally Agnetha at 1, MMattieu at 2 (the lady is a fabulous singer) and Anna at 3. She has quite a similar voice, maybe only slightly darker but still it comes out clear and powerful. She made the audience go wild with the "Allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll" - everybody applauded. :applause:
Of course it is not the real thing, we all know that, and TWTIA made me sad because I think Agnetha had never sung it live. She would have done a tremendous performance had she done that.. because Anna proved it is possible to sing it live and make it sound great.
Then poeple started coming in front of the stage during a few songs which I did not want to at first, but at the first sounds of TACOM (my sister's fav ABBA song), both of us jumped off the seats and ran down to the stage. From now on, every song they had been singing was a total roof raiser. The girl who was dressed in 77 tour outfits and whom we called "Agnetha" was also there. Then, SNC followed!
Back later!
EDIT - Later's arrived.
Ah, SNC and Dancing Queen were my personal highlights of the whole venue! I was right there in front of the stage, dancing wildly with the "Agnetha" I had mentioned before! The photographers were clicking in front of us, actually aiming at "Agnetha", but I wouldn't be too surprised if my picture appears in a magazine. Will have to check for that as well!
At one point, Vicky came to us and I was so delighted with her during SNC that we started interacting - something like she was stretching out her hands towards me as she clearly noticed that I had been doing the same in her direction, but I don't remember any more which part of the song it was but I do remember we did the same thing during Dancing Queen at "see that girl, watch that scene dig in the dancing queen" part.
Then they bowed and left the stage and the audience started yelling Dancing Queen and of course they were back and what is there to say more..... :D Finally came TYFTM - and then it was over.
However, it was not over for me!
:D :D :D

Re: ARRIVAL Coverband
Fire&Ice - 18.11.2007, 17:02
Ahem, let me continue.....
After the concert and the standing ovations, I decided to hang around the stage, waiting and hoping for a miracle.
After some 10 minutes, I saw a guy who looked to me like a part of their entourage so I asked him if it was possible to meet Arrival and he said YES! So me and my sister followed him across the stage and were brutally stopped by one of the security who said we weren't allowed further. :wrath:
The Swedish guy was so annoyed with it and I said we wanted a few autographs and pictures so he let us pass. Phew!
And then, all of a sudden, "ABBA" in their 77 tour costumes (DQ dresses ) was standing right in front of me!
They are such nice and kind people, very modest, while I was congratulating them on the fantastic concert. I think Vicky recognized me from earlier as the one in front of the stage who sort of danced with her so she gave me a big hug and I was so pleasantly surprised! :D
I told them they really sounded almost like ABBA, the voices were there, the harmonies were there, the right feeling was there. I also said that the big part of their successful performance is that they are Swedish. "B&B" said they had tried to sing pure English but it didn't work properly.
Then I handed out four leaflets I had got earlier for them to sign, and instead of signing one leaflet each, they all signed all four of them so I got 4 x 4 autographs! :D They also gave me ABBA Arrival postcards.
Then I asked if I could get my old MMia single cover signed by Roger Palm and Vicky-Frida immediately went inside to get him and we shook hands and introduced himself and I said my name and "I am the biggest ABBA fan in Serbia" and everybody laughed. He saw my MMia cover and said he had never seen it before. Well, naturally.
Finally I asked them for a picture which they gladly did and then we said good-bye and they also said they would be back in 2 or 3 years. 8)
I understand that this might not be as interesting to fans as it was to me, but this has been the biggest thing ABBA that has ever happened to me!
Again, thank you Arrival very much for the joy that you've given me and I still can't take that smile off my face!
:D :D :D

You are welcome Karin!
Unfortunately the light was so bad and the phone is not of the top quality but we are still visible, and so is my MM cover. :D
Anyway, I have found out that they were delighted with the Belgrade audience that started singing as of MMM and just couldn't stop singing, dancing and cheering. Later they all went clubbing till the morning light in a Belgrade disco. So they had a great time in my home town. 8)
The state TV recorded the whole concert and I really hope they will air it around New Year - that is when they usually aired ABBA stuff a lot in the 70s. Of course, I have to record it.

ABBA Arrival have made a miracle in Belgrade - they have united ABBA fans here.
After the concert, I surfed on a well known blog here and I met a guy who had started a topic "Abbasolutely" , so I posted a few interesting comments about ABBA's original musicians there and he sent me a PM.
It turned out that a good friend of his was one of the organizers for Arrival to come to Belgrade. 8)

Re: ARRIVAL Coverband

In Amsterdam nobody told us it wasn't allowed to take photo's. But a lot of people made pictures of Arrival (ofcourse without a flashlight...lol) and so did we.
People in Belgrade started to sing with MMM, but the people in Amsterdam were a long time very quiet...
They first started to sing (and dance!) when the song Mamma Mia started...!!

Actually, with the first sounds of Ring Ring people wanted to sing but they were baffled because it was in Swedish! :D Well, I could!
I loved that version of RR very much - just like in Tommy Cooper show - with sax!
I wonder why it was quiet in Amsterdam?

Re: ARRIVAL Coverband

YES. she did, and Vicky as well. "Bjorn" was I think quiet, unlike his famous original LOL, and so was "Benny".. They let the girls do the talking!
They greeted us with "Dobro vece Beograd" - good evening Belgrade and they thanked us in Serbian. That was soooo sweet!
They really appreciated the audience and I must say I am really proud of it! I hadn't expected such a great response. Both of them said they hadn't expected such a great atmosphere. :)

My Dear....a suggestion from a person who takes pictures everywhere, of everything and I am always ready for spying (probably a professional occupation habit - not a photographer, thow)....and that is why I ALWAYS have my little Sony digi camera (they make fun of me that I like to carry all those "James Bond gadgets" with me) with me in my purse so whenever I see something I want to show, discuss, keep, anyrthing I just pull out my camera and that's it....taking photos and video clips with no prob....

Wow, they are really good. I was sceptical at first because there are some really bad performances on youtube by "Arrival" biut I'm no longer sure if this is really the same group.
Are these e.g. the same? They sound so much different

And this is how Arrivals started:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVsZvcw-sjI
Interesting to see that "Frida" was originally "Agnetha" - looked and sounded strange if you ask me. The original "Frida" however wasn't bad either.
This is when they finally got Vicky as Frida - but I wonder if "Agnetha" was the same in 2005 as today....

I have seen them from very close and I wouldn't say the guys in WAL/JAN clip are the same as the ones I have seen - though "Bjorn" looks a little like the guy from there but both "B&B" I have seen seem very young and so does Anna Agnetha.
I have to say that "Frida" from WAL/JAN clip is SOOOOOOO cute and it is a pity she did not stay in the band although her voice is more like (real) Agnetha's!
I have found it a little weird that the "Frida" from Arrival is in fact - an Agnetha fan! I must say she is way better as Frida because her voice is smokey and sensual just like - well almost like Frida's.
In the MMM video (the last link you supplied Philipp) it is the "Agnetha" I've met, Anna.
I can also add that Vicky sang MMM live in concert way better than in this performance, with more drama and, what is very important for me, power.
I really can't say anything for DQ (though Bjorn again comes to mind but it is not them) and Waterloo - they are awful to my mind.. :P
Re: ARRIVAL Coverband
Angeleyes - 19.11.2007, 20:03
Thanks for your links WATERLOO!
 Now I'm totally confused about the members of this band. On the site www.arrival.se it's been said that Vicky is the former of the band, so who is that "frida" in those clips? Or is it Vicky?? Anna isn't the girl in the first links, though the girl in the MMM clip looks like Anna, but I think it is the girl of the promocard (i.m.o. not Anna...).
The only thing I know for sure is that the girls on this picture are Anna and Vicky
btw: the B&B are not the same...In last link I recognize Björn, but it's 'another' Benny... :D
Maybe Anna and Vicky better come to this site, to explain some things about the changes in the band... 8)
Re: ARRIVAL Coverband
Fire&Ice - 20.11.2007, 12:14
I think the girl on the promo card is Anna. Look at her eyebrows. :D
By the way, I have collected a few articles from daily papers in which Arrival is lavished with praises. Today I am hunting down weekly magazines.
But it is so obvious the reporters had absolutely no idea about Arrival's repertoire that evening. Some of they mentioned I have a dream and Our Last Summer! LOL I haven't heard them sing these two at all.
Here are the girls performing WAL - Vicky as Agnetha and the other girl (which I find SOOO cute) as Frida:
And JAN:

Funny to see Vicky in role of Agnetha! :D
Re: ARRIVAL Coverband
Fire&Ice - 22.11.2007, 16:35
Yes, it is really funny. She looks better with darker hair and she really does not have the right face (lol) or voice to be Agnetha, I must say.
I've spent a lot of money on various weekly magazines and come across two articles too. I hit the jackpot with one in particular - there is a large picture of Arrival in concert and also a small one of the original (that is what it is printed on that picture lol).
In a few articles the reporters claim that the very same original couldn't have done the job better - with which I have to disagree of course but I understand. They simply have never seen the Movie or In Concert.
Arrival did a great job however and I really hope I'll be able to tape the whole concert if they air it around New Year. Oh that would be super cool!!!!

No, not the ticket, but the flyer (I took about 15 flyers, and I got 4 of them signed lol)

Thanks Angeleyes for sharing it with us.....
Have to admit that I had several doubts before going to see Arrival...I have never seen any cover band and I was not really sure that I will like it......you know someone else performing ABBA and pretending that they are ABBA, but boy, it looked so REAL..... :agree:

Thanks for the wonderful story Karin!
Love your site, that slideshow at the bottom is fabulous! And all those pictures after the concert! WOW
I see a slightly different playlist, and Finn Sjoberg wasn't introduced at all. I would have known it if he had been. They probably thought who would know about him in Belgrade. Well, I would lol.
They also played just parts of I've been Waiting and Honey honey, so no whole songs and they DEFINITELY did not play Eagle - which was strange to me at the time. Maybe Finn had to leave..
As of TACOM, I was right there where you had seen me till the end. LOL

I'm wondering why they are not playing the same songs in all countries...Eagle sounded so great in Amsterdam!!
On the other hand: one show isn't the same as the other, so you must visit them all....

Did Finn left the stage earlier?? Wasn't he there till the end? I can see Roger standing on the right side of that 'Belgrade' picture!

I haven't even noticed Finn on stage... I don't know what was going on, maybe he did play but I didn't recognize him. And maybe he did not appear at all, I don't know the reason. Maybe that is why they dropped Eagle.
Of course you saw me! In your last picture! I was there on my left side of the stage as of TACOM till the very end.

It seems state TV has filmed the concert indeed and on 31 Dec. there will be half an hour concert footage.
There are two reports though. In the newspapers they say: Abba Tribute Concert, and on the net it is ABBA Concert. (not ABBA in Concert and it can't last 30 min. only) I hope it will be Arrival instead of ABBA   because I already have everything ABBA in concerts and there definitely won't be anything new to see, and I would really like to tape this one!

I have had the impression that ARRIVAL is quite an appresiated cover band among ABBAfans and since thsey (we) should be the hardest critics in this case I suppose they are good. Unfortunaly I hven't seen them perform. A shame really since there were several shows in Båstad last year (well, it's 2008 now) really close too were I live.
I've seen ABBA coverband "Waterloo" twice which I enjoyes, on the oter hand I have no other coverband to compare to...

I am not shore, I am on the fence about Vicky not returning my e-mails and I really wont to go back stage this year to see them all. I know I can ketch them at the stage door but I think because she did not answer my e-mails I would feel strange, only because we have a close relationship. If she answers my e-mail before May 22 I will drive to Rhode Island and also see them in Massachusetts and then in Conn... I am moving to the west coast in August and if they come close enough to the west coast I will see them in October or November. I do not know what to do, I may call peter their road manager an ask him if there is a problem or I may e-mail their agent in LA an ask them if there is a problem. If things are ok I will try to see them may be five times, thanks for asking Karin, Ross...

it was a great show. i screamed hello to Vicky, Angeleyes, but i doubt she heard me. the crowd was more enthusiastic this year. they spent much more time out of their seats, dancing, singing and having the time of our lives. iwas happy they didn't play the same sets as last year, alternating several songs. Summer Night City was one of my favourites of the night. Chiquitita was rather clunky, it almost fell apart. but that was the only song that wasn't done superbly. a fantastic evening on the rocks. (Check out red rocks amphitheatre on line to see a picture of this fantastic venue).

I took pictures and hope they came out ok. I think when I move to Ca. I will fly to Texas to see Arrival in October. They were amazing! I've seen both Björn Again & Waterloo which I enjoy, but Arrival are the best and most authentic. I was especially impressed with 'Agnetha' She had every dance move down perfect. Especially during "So Long"
Their song choices were fantastic! Not just the usual hits, but "As Good As New"/"I've Been Waiting For You"/"Eagle"/"One Man, One Woman".
My favorite song of the night was "Summer Night City" It rocked!!!
Surprisingly, they didn't sing Mamma Mia ?????
After the show, all 4 came out and sat at a table to sign autographs and have photos taken. I was wearing an ABBA T-shirt and my necklace, which all 4 commented on :D
They also sold two new CD's- a 4 track EP with DQ/MMM/VV/SNC and a new CD single version of "Just A Notion" (different from their 1999 version):

I would love to see them! I think they look like the best ABBA coverband, although I think WATERLOO look quite good too.
I can't really make up my mind about Bjorn Again. I think they are really good, but I don't think they are all that much like ABBA (although, nobody could be that good :))
And also, I didn't know Arrival's Frida was called Vicky! Thats awesome
Vicki xx :frida:

Fire&Ice - 15.10.2008, 00:16
Today is exactly one year since I saw Arrival in concert. (actually it is a little after midnight but still lol) Vicky told me they would be back in two years' time.
So one more year to go!
Pepe, I am glad you had a great time, and I still remember how great it was in Belgrade. They were delighted with the audience too and so was I. I did not expect such a great response. I also think they are as close to ABBA as one can get and they have one big advantage - they are Swedish and they have almost the same accent while singing as A&F and that is something other cover bands don't have - well they can't. (unless they are Swedish)
I am not fond of Bjorn Again when they are fooling around and trying to imitate Swedish or whatever they do. I agree they are pretty good singing but Arrival is better. Haven't heard Waterloo yet.
Re: ARRIVAL Coverband
ABBAFANUSA - 15.10.2008, 08:09
Waterloo was really good when I saw them, but there was 2 or 3 songs they did where the wrong girl sang the wrong song. I believe "Frida" sang G!G!G!
that kind of ruined it for me.
One thing both groups did (which annoys me) is Waterloo sings the first verse of SOS in Swedish, and Arrival sang the first verse of Fernando in Swedish. For an american audience, it just doesn't work too well.
But Arrival is the most authentic for me.

The funny thing about Arrival is, that they have at least 2 blonde leadsingers. Jenny is touring the USA and Anna is touring Europe. :D

I can understand your disappointment Abbafanusa if the wrong girl sung the wrong song but if the real Abba girls had switched songs now and then I think I'd have quite liked it. Just for a change ;)

Actually, ..they "have" done that, occasionally!! Remember the Eskilstuna concert, in '75 ..when Frida sang "Rock 'n Roll Band"?? Also, she sang the second verse of "SOS" These were awesome moments!! I for one am happy if "the wrong girl :x sang the wrong song" :P  ...

Me, too Linda. 'Wrong' was making me laugh! I guess I'm curious to hear another's take on a song that we may associate purely with either A or F. But That's another thread and I'd better get off this one before someone tells me I shouldn't contribute as I'm picking the carcass! :) :) and again.. :rotfl: :) ;)

our local PBS station (public television) were promoting the upcoming Arrival concert at Red Rocks. they were after money, of course, offering packages of In Concert and Super Troupers dvd's and Arrival tickets. They showed In Concert 3 times in a row with lots of interuptions to beg for money, money, money. It was kind of nice to watch the basketball playoffs and switch to ABBA during commercial breaks.

Oh, but they don't even have to look like them. It is enough that Agnetha has long blonde hair, and Frida can always choose one of the myriad hairstyles. When you are in the audience, you don't see their faces that clearly anyway unless you're in the first 5-6 front rows. As long as they wear catsuits or whatever, they give a pretty good illusion of ABBA.
They do sound like ABBA a lot.
Re: ARRIVAL Coverband
Hoosier Charley - 02.07.2009, 09:14
Last night, I drove about 100 miles north of my northern Indiana (USA) home to the Ravinia Music Festival, north of Chicago, to see the band "Arrival," one of the best ABBA tribute bands. I took my son, Jayson, 25, who lives in Boca Raton, Florida. Not an ABBA fan to say the least, but grudgingly agreed to go along.
It was fantastic, unbelievable. What a night!
First, I must tell you that Ravinia is one of the finest, most famous and top-flight music venues anywhere. It is the oldest outdoor music venue in the US, and is second to none in terms of class, ambience, atmosphere and presentation of A-list performers all summer long.
A beautiful place, it has 3,300 reserved seats under a structural top cover with all sides open-air. So you are safe from rain but still "outside." Then in a semi-circle around the covered seating is banked grass on which another 5,000 or more (at half price) can find a spot. They bring picnic baskets, wine, food, portable tables and seats, canopies, blankets and, especially, candles. It was amazing to walk around the grounds before the show and see the thousands of attendees filling every square inch of the grounds and to see their setups.
I mean folks brought their kids, their boyfriends/girlsfriends, or just groups of friends, put down blankets, set up a little portable table, put out wine glasses, lit candles, had cheese and snacks, even barbeques and more. It was simply amazing to see about 5,000 people out there, ready for a good time.
Ravinia brings in the absolute best of the world of musical entertainment. For instance, just a few of the schedule this summer are: Ramsey Lewis, Handel Anniversary concert, Michael Feinstein, Indigo Girls, Diana Krall, Joe Cocker, Tom Jones, The Beach Boys, opera's Thomas Hampson, Steve Miller Band, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, soprano Susan Graham, John Legend, Lang Lang, Patti LuPone, Yo Yo Ma, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Bonie Raitt, Blondie/Pat Benatar together, Elvis Costello, Tony Bennett, Carrie Underwood and many more. And in the middle of it all, there was "Arrival," the ABBA tribute band.
I'll tell you what just amazes me: This place brings in fantastic talent night after night all summer, and every year they book an ABBA band, and that particular night is always one of the biggest, most attended shows of the season!
In an interview in Opera News, to which I've long subscribed, the manager of Ravinia explained that the ABBA bands often pay the cost of some of the other acts. He seemed a little sheepish about admittting that, but to his credit explained that the venue pays top dollar to some classical and Broadway and operatic acts that don't always sell out, and that the revenue generated by the ABBA show helps pay for that.
I think that is just so wonderful to know, to have him admit, that a "make-believe ABBA band" all these years later still is a force even at a venue as prestigious as is Ravinia!
Okay, to the show...
It was simply amazing, as good as you could hope for. First of all, I should mention that there were more than 8,000 people there. It was so crowded it was unbelievable. What a party!
Arrival started slow, with several band members coming on stage, then a couple more, then backup singers, then the Benny and Bjorn characters, and finally "Agnetha and Frida."
They looked much like the real group -- if you weren't sitting too close to the stage -- because of the costumes and the hair styles, which were all perfect. And, of course, they had the ABBA movements on stage down to detail.
First song was "Ring Ring," then "Hey Hey Helen." I thought that opening was a poor choice, as most non-ABBA fans have never heard either song, and neither is among ABBA's best by any means. So why did they start wtih that? Who knows?
Then came: Knowing Me Knowing You, I Do I Do I Do, Arrival and a I've Been Waiting For You-Honey Honey-He Is Your Brother medly; Fernando, Money Money Money, SOS, Mamma Mia!, Waterloo and So Long, which was the end of the first set.
During the first set, the Bjorn guy (Jonas Karlsson) said "we have a special surprise, a guest tonight!" And I'm thinking, okay, OMG, AGNETHA is here in person!
Of course not (dammit!!), but ABBA drummer Roger Palm came out and set in on a number of songs. He looked very good for his age.
There was a 20-minute break and they came back with Voulez-Voux, really rocking the place.
I should mention here that Ravinia had roped off the area in front of the stage for those who wanted to dance, and that area was just jammed with people dancing and waving arms and clapping along and screaming all night long. It looked like the audience at Royal Albert Hall or in Australia. Simply incredible to see.
Then Did Your Mother Know, Man After Midnight, As Good As New, Kisses of Fire, Lay All Your Love On Me, One Man One Woman and then The Winner Takes It All.
Of course, all throughout the show they would change costumes, wearing all the famous ABBA costumes we are so famiilar with.
Now, I must tell you about the Agnetha (Jenny Gustafsson). She is incredible, as good as it can get without the real Agnetha. The perfect blond hair, the great legs and body, the moves, the sexiness, a really terrific voice and tons of stage presenced and charisma. She was absolutely amazing and shouuld be a superstar in her own right!
"Frida," on the other hand, seemed to either have had a bad night or just isn't up to the challenge of portraying the wonderful and beautiful Frida, neither physically nor vocally. Not terrible, mind you, but not as good as she should be in my opinion.
So then came Winner Takes It All -- very good version, but after Agnetha, is it even fair to compare anyone else?
Then they did Chiqiitita, Take a Chance On Me, Summer Night City (the place was absolutely rocking, shaking, dancing, etc.), and Thank You For the Music.
Then Benny (Rolf Ivraeus) said it would be a crime if they didn't play this next song, and of course the first notes of Dancing Queen began. Oh, you should have been there!
The place just exploded, screaming, dancing, singing along, rushing she stage. The whole crowd was jumping, waving their arms, etc. What a sight and what a glorious tribute to ABBA's music!
They took their bows and thanked the people and received a very long standing ovation. It was announced on the big screen that they would then be available in person at the souvenir stand to sign autographs and pics, etc.
I wasn't a able to stick around (it was about 10:30 pm by then, but as I left the place I did see the table set up for them and a line of more than 100 to meet them.
Is this not just unbelievable and incredible? An imitation band, not the real people, draw some 8,000 people having the time of their lives and then signing autographs, selling their CDs and tee-shirts, etc.?
I must tell all ABBA fans and all those who are still dubious and impervious to ABBA's magic that this was a night of vindication for we ABBAholics, to see this many people of all ages loving this music. It is no accident that Mamma Mia! the movie broke records, that ABBA Gold nears 30 million in sales, that the group has sold more than 360 million, that the music lives on generation after generation.
The other couple of details -- a 12-person stage total, three backup singers, a VERY loud bass the first half -- are meaningless when discussing this show, which was simply overwhelming to we true ABBA fans. It was like being in 1976 or 1979, and being there live. It's as close as we can get to being there back in time, and it was just such a high, so much fun and so damn satisfying to be in this throng of thousands of people having more fun than they probably have ever had at any concert ever.
To Arrival and to ABBA, I say, more than ever -- Thank You For the Music!!!

Re: ARRIVAL Coverband
DESIGNER - 04.07.2009, 07:41
Good evening every one, Charley thank you so much for your post, I am so happy that you enjoy Arrival and they are to. Well to begin, I did not know if I could get tickets to the Del Mar concert, I was this way or that way about going to Del Mar to see Arrival, its about 85 miles from Beaumount Ca. It came down to the day befor the concert, so I texed Peter the road maneger for Arrival and he texed me back. I suck it up and told my self, self, if its not worth living, don't live. So my next step was to go on ticket master and buy tickets. This is the first part of the concert. I will be doing an edit later. So the day of the concert I got everything that I needed maps ect, ect... left at 2:30 the concert was at 7:30. I arrived at Del Mar at 4: 00 got a bite to eat an at 5:00 I went over to the fairgrounds and it took me a wile to find a parking space and then I had a little walk to get to the venue. I was able to get my set at 6:30, after that I spoked to some of the ushers to find out where the back stage entrance is, one of them took me down to the gate. The guard sent word to Peter that I was out side, he came out to great me an told me after the concert that he would come out to bring me back stage. Well now its time for the concert to begain, they started right on time and play until 10:00 pm with no breaks. They where in great form even though they where missing the other sax player that also plays a reed instrument to Fernande, it was done with the sax and I did not really care for that, but it did not make a differance to the rest of the audience an Hughe who plays Bjorn was replaceed by a new member and one of the back up singers was replaced also and Finn Sjoberg was missing but Roger Palm was there. I was happy to see that they have change their song list like Charley wrote, it was refreshing but all an all it was a great concert. After most of the people left I went back stage to see everyone. I was so happy to see everyone after not seeing them for two years. So after a lot of hugs and handshake I settle down with a Heinekn, I was offerd pizza but I did not take the offer. At the 07 concert I brought some pictures of some art work that my sons did for finals, for graduation it was on a 4by8 foot sheet of plywood, They really liked the pictures thats when vicky told me her son is an artiste to. So this year I brought some copys of art works that my son did an a picture of him for them. Vicky said my son would really like to see them, well when you get back home you can show them to him, no, no, he is with us this year he is running the silver-neer both you will have to show him later. After about 45 minutes Peter shout out, ok people we need to do the singing, so everyone got up except for me but Vicky and Jenny called to me come on Ross your coming to. so I road out to the both with the rest of them and thats when I met Vickys son. I talk to him and show him my sons art work, he like it, he and my son are so much a like, he playes the guitar an is in to heavy meatle like my son. Later after the singing and back to behine stage I asked Roger where Finn is, he told me he is touring with Waterloo this year. Jenny and I where talking about the changers every so often and that Karen sent me a dvd of Arrival at Belgrade and Anna did the tour with Vicky. Jenny then told me Anna will not be doing concerts for a wile, she is with child, cool I replied. All an all I had a grate time and at first I thought I would go to Vegas to see them again on this day July 4th but then decided not to do that. So I will have to wate a year to see them again unless they come back to Ca this year.......Ross

I was the first one who talked to them after their fantastic Belgrade concert. They personally told me that was the best concert they had done at that leg of the tour.

another fantastic show. it was pretty much what Hoosier Charlie descrbed. Roger Palm appeared twice, playing several songs each time. Karin, next time you record a concert, you should put a finger on the microphone and the sound will be much better. I only learned this after I had recorded a few songs with my phone and it appeared too loud.

No, there will be sound. You shouldn't press the microphone too hard, just a light touch, to buffer the concert sound that is otherwise too loud for such a small device as a mobile phone which is not suited to record sound that is too loud.

we saw Arrival for the 4th year in a row last Thursday. It was beautiful at Red Rocks in the rain. They sounded better than ever! my daughter and her friend were visiting from Wisconsin and they had the time of their lives. after the show, these girls in the parking lot blasted Dancing Queen at full volume. Everyone came skipping and dancing by on their way to their cars (singing too of course). it was like the scene in the Mamma-Mia movie when the whole town danced. It went on for a long time. i should have recorded it. Tiger in the rain reminded me of The Movie.

On the USA tour, Roger Palm and Mike Watson joined Arrival again. :D
A friend told me this story:
"When they introduced Mike Watson, he stepped forward to say a few words. He said that before he left Sweden to come on this tour, he spoke with Agnetha. He told her that he was leaving to go on tour with ARRIVAL to the United States. He said that Agnetha asked him to send her love to America."
8) How cool is that?! :rotate: Would have bring tears in my eyes...!
This was said during the concert in Chicago.
@Phil: did he bring this message at Red Rocks too?
Re: ARRIVAL Coverband
philzone - 06.08.2010, 17:14
yes exactly. the crowd went wild. sorry I didn't describe the show in more detail. I was preoccupied being with my daughter I hadn't seen in 8 years. i also wish i had taken more pics, maybe because of the rain. faux-Agnetha dedicated I Do x 5 to the recent royal wedding in Sweden. Faux-Bennie claimed that Red Rocks is their favourite venue "in the world". (or does he tell that to all the venues?). once again my wife was reluctant to go a 4th year in a row but, once again, she was glad she did.

Hi Stu, Arrival did indeed re-record their version of JAN a couple of years ago, and as far as I know it was only given out at one of their shows if I'm not mistaken. I heard a very short snippet of it once but I can't remember where. I sounded quite different to their original take of the song - I think it had a completely different and re-arranged backing track.
I'd love to hear it in full but it never shows up anywhere - only the original!

Last Saturday at Red Rocks was my first time seeing Arrival, and I was blown away. I don't really enjoy hearing others singing ABBA music (like when Faith Hill murdered The Winner Takes It All at the Hall of Fame ceremony), so I was skeptical. But, for $30 and a visit to Red Rocks, I figured I'd take my chances. The experience was wonderful. Arrival is good enough to allow you to suspend disbelief for an evening and imagine what it would be like to have heard ABBA perform in concert. It was almost magical.
I was so impressed that they played more than just songs from ABBA Gold and was almost giddy to hear I've Been Waiting For You and He Is Your Brother.
If Arrival is playing near you, make it a priority to see them. I won't pass up any opportunity to see them again.

I can't believe that I just saw a commercial for ABBA Arrival playing in Marymoor Park in Redmond, Washington just a mile from where I grew up and about 7 miles from where I currently live. I went to the ticketmater website and bought 2 tickets right away and was wanting to know if there are any people here from the Seattle area that will be going to this on Sunday the 14th 7:00 PM? I would love to meet some people from this forum there, it sounds like a lot of fun, I only hope the weather will co-operate and we have a nice summer evening to enjoy the ABBA music. ♥♥♥♥♥

Monica, don't miss them, they are awesome!
My favourite cover band, though I disapprove of cover bands in general.
This year in Roo there was an excellent cover band, but I still think Arrival were better. Why? Because they are SWEDISH, and it is VERY important how they pronounce words etc, so they really sound very similar to ABBA. I told them so backstage when I went to get my autographs.

Yes, they might be Swedish, but I think the two Arrival girls have the right combination of voices - which means one of them is mezzo, and the other one soprano. They make the closest possible sound to ABBA, and their tones are very similar to the respective ABBA girl.

Arrival from Sweden concert review
Saturday night I took the family to Chastain Park Ampitheatre to see Arrival From Sweden, an Abba tribute band, backed by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
Very good concert. Arrival is fronted and run by Victoria Norbäck-Zetterberg from Sweden, a prolific Facebook poster, some of you might know her. Vicki plays "Frida" in the band.
Overall, Arrival is extremely tight and professional, the best-sounding Abba band I've heard yet. The musicians are very good (one guy plays piano, acoustic guitar AND a brilliant saxophone!) and the two girl singers are excellent. The symphony provided a powerful backing as well. The Bjorn guy sang very little but played very good electric guitar, unfortunately for me, he played no leads or solos.
Concert was divided into two halves; the first was music from Arrival and all the albums before it. First song was Thats Me; some others performed were Waterloo, Honey Honey, Mama Mia, Money Money Money, I do I do I do, He is Your Brother, Knowing Me Knowing You, SOS, Intermezzo (which was really great - provided time for girls costume change - the costumes were great, and seemed to be almost exact clones of the ones A&A wore back in the day - I liked the miniskirts ;-)
Brief intermission and then they returned to play music from Abba the Album and the other later albums (but nothing from The Visitors)
First song was a rousing version of VoulezVouz, with the entire orchestra motoring on that riff, it reminded me Zeppelin's Kashmir.
they also did a mini-medley from that album, with bits of Kisses of Fire, Angel Eyes, Lay all your Love On Me
Fantastic solo vocal performances on I Wonder and Winner Takes it All, which really brought the house down.
Other tunes played were Take a Chance on Me, Summer Night City, Thank You for the Music, SuperTrouper, Gimme Gimme Gimme, Dancing Queen
Great show, highly recommended if they come your way.

Thanks for the review Roddey, pleased to hear you had a good time and hope the rest of the family enjoyed the show too. I like the idea of splitting the show into two halves, early and later ABBA stuff but, its a pity some of The Visitors songs weren't included. Arrival is perhaps the "tribute" band I would really like the oppertunity to see. I love the Waterloo girls and their participation with "ABBA - The Show" is great but, something about Arrival I think I might like more.
Ive seen some of their performances on Youtube and, theres a great rendition of The Winner and One Man One Woman so, if and when they come to the Uk - Who's coming :?: :D

Did they do any 82 tracks?
Great to see you enjoyed it but I don't think I'll ever go to a tribute act again after seeing the most rubbish one 2 years ago, I'm scarred for life.
Re: ARRIVAL Coverband
Roddey_Phipps - 06.08.2012, 22:26
Its possible that there were no Visitors songs because the album isnt very well known here in the USA except by the hardcore Abba fans. I dont know for sure. Maybe the band doesnt like the album.
the audience was a real mix, couples, lots of mommies and daughters, lots of all male groups, and lots of families.
Maybe Arrival has come to understand that their usual concert audience is a wide range, but composed of a lot of "casual fans" who arent going to know The Visitors. Most of the songs they chose were pretty big hits.
Re: ARRIVAL Coverband

Sorry to go over this in your thread Roddey, because I enjoyed your review but, Im really wondering now, how The Day Before You Came would be presented in a live concert. Maybe the arrangement is too synthetic, perhaps a complete re-arrangement would be interesting. I can't say I particularly liked the cold ending ABBA used for playback, as I dont like the edit at all but, maybe it was necessary or, at the risk of getting hung here, it could have become a very long dirge

Re: ARRIVAL Coverband
Roddey_Phipps - 06.08.2012, 23:40
Here in america, few know that song, and probably it would have succeeded in clearing much of the audience and putting the rest to sleep. I know I would have gone off to get a beer if they started that one.
Arrivals show is mostly high energy; there were few (if any) slow ballads. Maybe Winner Takes it All could be described, but its quite dramatic with its musical building, crests and valleys.
You can always try to find Vicki on Facebook and ask her to include the song at their concert near you... I get the feeling that they know many Abba songs and switch their setlists around every now and then.
Perhaps catering to whatever audience they are playing, its possible their shows in Europe are totally different than their shows in America.

:D Thanks a lot for your review on Arrival, Roddey! Really happy to read that you enjoyed their concert! They are touring the USA a lot and maybe it's true that they have different set lists to play in the USA then in Europe. As you can read on the early pages here, more of us are 'fans' from Arrival as well. I have seen them perform twice and would love to see them again. My review of their concert in Holland a few years ago, can be read here, including set list:

First time posting. For all the people that disapprove of cover bands or tribute bands, remember that the original ABBA will never perform on stage again, and those of us who want to experience the music live have a problem; do we live with decades old videos of their live performance or applaud a group such as Arrival that does such a great job with the ABBA sound? I have been to 4 different ABBA tribute bands, but I will always go to see Arrival when it is in our area, they are by far the best band out there. "Bjorn Again" was a joke, should have asked for my money back; "Abbanatics" was a bad garage band let loose, and the other I have erased from my memory it was so terrible. Relax, don't think this thing too hard, enjoy the musicl.
