Agnetha as a songwriter
She made her name initially as a songwriter and a singer. During the following years she only improved as a songwriter and finally released the excellent "Elva kvinnor i ett hus" in 1975. ABBA and motherhood were taking a lot of her time during the late 1970a and the 1980s and she wrote only very few songs.

This is just pure speculation, but I have been wondering if she doesn't have the urge to write songs anymore. She has always said that she found it hard work to write, but she wrote so many great songs. What are your thoughts on this?

I miss Agnetha as a singer and as a songwriter.

I think that Agnetha lacked confidence in herself as a songwriter. She didnt feel that disillusion was good enough to be a ABBA song, but Bjorn disagreed with her and put it on the album. Some of her early stuff was very raw, but cute. If Agnetha releases an albumt this year or next which has been mentioned, it would be amazing if she includes some self penned material.

In her December 2004 interview Agnetha said that she does not feel the urge to write these days. She feels as if she got it all out of her system in those years that she was full of inspiration. It seems she has a lack of inspiration these days.

Agnetha also said once that composing is a lot of work. She for instance worked all summer long on I Won't Let You Go in 1984.

I am not so sure if Agnetha felt that Disillusion was not good enough for ABBA because in those days the band had hardly started and had not yet the high standards.
Besides she used the song on her solo album so I guess she felt it was not that bad.
platobird - 13.11.2007, 20:54

Agnetha seemed to complain that writing music and lyrics took too much time. The melody must have been easier, and many of the lyrics were written by others. :)

I'm guessing that Aggie never felt the lyrics were good enough and worked them over and over - taking a lot of time in the process. She probably gave birth to two children with less labor than it took her to write a song. I've met many people (e.g. engineers) who have trouble "cutting the cord".

Also, her English was never a good as Björn's, so finding the right English word was difficult. Except for Man, did she write anything else in English? Björn wrote the lyrics for Disillusion. (The WYAAM album is playing now, and Man will be up soon; it's a favorite of mine.) :applause:

Agnetha's lyrics in Swedish have limited international appeal, although as an Aggie FANatic, I play them often.

I think Agnetha is a great songwriter, It is a shame that she does not release a album of material by her as a writer, I know she is very critical of herself but she I think has penned some great songs in the past.

I'm with you Gill a recording would be well worth the Wait

I love Disillusion written with Bjorn I think it is a great song a favorite of mine

While in her documetary she always talked in present tense about composing music - so obviously she still does it today every now and then - but I guess just for fun.
drimnagh - 14.11.2007, 15:27

I think most of Agnetha's inspiration came from when she was young and had her heart broken every so often thus fuelling her muse.

I doubt if she has this kind of thing happen to her these days as a mature woman but it's a pity she can't find inspiration from other things around her and the world as it is today.

But she has gone on record as saying her main thing was romantic stuff where she was usually crying over some guy or other..so...

True. Agnetha admited she still writes these days but not so much. She also stated that she knows that a lot of people would like to see her record her own material again. Benny is one of those people by the way.

Me too! Love her selfwritten songs on Elva kvinnor i ett hus, and also "Man"...
johnny59 - 14.11.2007, 22:36

Here's another one who badly misses the girl . . . :love4:

I think her most wonderful compositions are the tunes to "Disillusion" and "När du tar mig i din famn / Queen of Hearts".
Toni - 14.11.2007, 22:49

My favorites from her self composed songs are

Tag min hand lat oss bli vänner
Jag skall göra allt
Kungens vacktparad

Mitt sommarland
Jag skall inte fälla nagra tarar
Han lämnar mig för att komma till dig

Sangen föder dig tillbaka
Tagen kan ga igen
Tack för en underbart, vandlig dag

Och han väntar pa mej
Doktorn!
Dom har glömt

Var det med dej?
Visa i attonde manaden
Tio mil kvar till Korpilombolo

all her self composed songs with english lyrics and of course especially "Disillusion".

I prefer Man over Disillusion, and not just because Agnetha wrote the lyrics for Man. :D However, whatever she want's to sing, in Swedish, English, German or Serbo-Croatian, I'll listen. 8)

I think Disillusion includes Agnetha*'s highest note. In the chorus, the first word "disillusion" is close to C6 (C above high C), and this may be the top of her singing range. She seems to be straining a little to get it out, that is, she doesn't "ring it out" as she usually does on ending beats.

She sang Serbo-Croatian? That would be new to me. 8)

She sings a higher note in the second word-"Disillusion, disillusion's all you left for me". She sings that note again in the last line of the chorus-"Disillusion, disillusions now that's all I have".
drimnagh - 20.11.2007, 15:02

I would say 'Man' is perhaps her best English composition, simple though it is, it has everything. But I also like Disillusion and The Queen Of Hearts.

Amongst her Swedish stuff it has to be Without You and Union Silver (sic).

Hi.

I think it would be just super if she started writing again.

Back in the 60-ies she was looked upon as a kind of "wonderkid" and quite ahead of her time.
In those day´s it was very unusual for women/girls to compose their own stuff.

Her earlier songs are made by a young girl, she was only 17-18 so in some ways the lyrics may seem a bit naive, but musically its hard to belive these songs were composed by someone beeing so young.

Yes this was before the rise of singer/songwriters like Cat Stevens and James Taylor who really started getting succesful in the early Seventies. It was only then that female singer/songwriters came around as well like Joni Mitchell and Carole King.

What about Agnedorable Super Grannie?

platobird - 30.01.2008, 17:15

Creativity requires inspiration. :D Although the Agnedorable Super Grannie may have been inspired by Tilda and Emma, these "creations." did little to motivate musical composition, and they may have encouraged her to "settle in" even more.

When Agnetha released MCB, she said she was inspired by the clamor of her fans. Do you think a fan-mail campaign will get her going again?
However, the best inspiration could be romance :love4: any volunteers?
jacko10 - 30.01.2008, 17:20

well I truly think she is a genius songwriter

and to prove it Just a little gem she wrote for the Eurovision song contest

written by Agnetha and Ingela "Pling" Forsman. "Men natten är vår" (But the nights are ours) and "Här är mitt liv" (This is my life
