What is scientific glassblowing, you ask?
Not sure how many of you may know this already, but that's what I do. Okay, it's what I'm learning :-P It's a pretty small niche, so I find myself explaining the craft to people I meet quite a lot. There are three general comments I usually get from people, depending on their individual degrees of ignorance:

'Oh, the vases they make down at Wheaton Village are just lovely!'

'Oh, so you're learning how to make test tubes.'

'Hold on, isn't that stuff all made by machines now?'

Anyway, here's the cover story from the last Chemical & Engineering News. It even features my school, though I managed to evade the camera by a margin of about 20 seconds

That would only last until you'd burnt the crap out of yourself dave :-P then you'd realize burns beat cuts any day.

For anyone who cares, I actually do glassblowing now  got a job down at Greatglas in Wilmington just this past week. Naturally the owner gives me all the grunt jobs like cutting and firepolishing tubes since I'm the new guy, but the other guys in the shop give me some more interesting stuff here and there.

If you buy bottled water habitually, I hate you with a passion. You are the reason I have to cut and polish hundreds of footlong tubes that have to be more pristine than some of the glass that we have to start from. They're used to make ozone, which requires high voltage so there can't be any scratches or imperfections in the glass whatsoever.

That said, I still love working there. I'd rather do grunt work in glass than not work in glass at all.
